    Attraction tends to hold or pull both magnets center to center while repulsion tends to resist entry of the other like pole hence. This will not work!

    Using the V8 formation, you may need to add a brace in the center to keep the spinning rods from bending. Otherwise you might have to use rods that are so thick they rob you of efficiency. Of course an extra set of bearings on the rods will also reduce efficiency, but I think not as much.

    everytime the pole number increase so do the lock area... so if 1 doesnt work make it 8 will mean 8 new lock area even with properly balanced angle 1 lock will still be there to stop the whole system. the locking is indeed the hardest(where almost all engineer say its imposible)

    You need a corresponding magnet or electromagnet at the crank to repel and attract the pistons in conjunction with the timing of the magnets at the top of the piston. It wouldn't hurt to put in a partial gear to assist the crank's rotation where the crank is weak in its rotation: This can also aid in maintaining timing mechanically. If it were me building this, I would use a hybrid magnet and electromagnet setup. I would use the electromagnet as a starter and have it reengage to assist and minimize wear at the helper gears. You can even mount a sensor on the gears to turn the electromagnetic assist into a mechanical and self-sustained timing feature.

    If everything is equitative shape/orientation symmetrical, you''ll have same attraction/repulsion vectors of magnetic force. I may be wrong, but i dare to say it wont work. You need an unbalance mechanism to produce movement. I dont see it here. For instance, devices like a magneto-gravitic can takes advantage (like the rotating wheel project where a magnet constant attracts a steel ball and the ball by friction rotates the wheel... its just an example). Here, everything is symmetrical(surfaces, shapes, distances, etc)... So when you think on repulsion/attraction movement, you must think the opposite conterpart.

    Try mixing up the magnets driving the megnetic pistons at the ends of each polarity so you have a more gradual flow from one magnetic pole to the next. This may help to reduce put back.

    Em seu modelo sempre faltará um pulso que anule o campo magnético cruzado e que é possível de se fazer com uma bobina que corte o primeiro campo e gere pulso para a segunda e assim por diante!

    Unless you used it in a complete vacuum with zero gravity, you would need some kind of sleeves to support the pistons which will cause too much friction.

    Just made one out of Lego technic in 30 mins. One problem is that the pistons had to be further away from each other so they won’t clog. The main problem is that the crankshaft doesn’t produce enough torque to turn the magnets at the end of the pistons. Doesn’t really work with all gear ratios that I used or what size piston strokes.

    This is not going to work. You might get it to turn for a while under no load, until friction stops it, but as soon as you try to draw power out of this system, it will instantly stop. When you want to rotate those round magnets that push the pistons, you‘ll have to invest the energy that the piston produces, because the magnetic field of the piston will resist the rotation

    "Charging" a magnet is equivalent to producing a spring. A magnet does work afterwards if someone has invested work, for example pushing two magnets together with a common pole and then repelling them - that's the returned work from the previous investment of pushing. Likewise, a spring does work if someone pushes or stretches it. Therefore, the magnet (nor the spring) does no work from their production, but from the input work in their finished form. Over time, the magnetism decreases, just as the elasticity of the spring decreases. Production energy (energy supplied during production) is not work potential. It's the same as making a bicycle - it allows you to ride with the energy of your muscles. If the concepts are unified and the meanings are distinguished, you yourself will come to the realization that a perpetual motion machine with pistons is a completely useless waste of your time.

    I have one question this reminds me of a conventional combustion engine will you need a lubricant for the “” piston “” the magnets that move up and down? Won’t it create heat and lock it up if there was not a lubricant?

    No motor can work without an energy supply. Every movement has to be compensated for in order for it to be repeated. Experimenters trying to achieve 'perpetual motion' come to realise that. Whether movement is achieved by magnets or gravity or something else you get only one movement as it uses up energy stored in it. Then you have to replace the stored energy to get further movement. Simple!
    Movement of anything is caused by energy so there can be no motion without energy being applied or stored energy used up. Sorry, no perpetual machines.

    I had a rotational one using a bicycle wheel that worked, but only for a couple minutes then would slow down and stop. I think this was due to magnetic flux expanding and I gave up before finding a way to disperse or reuse the excess magnetic flux. I had no way of measuring the flux to verify this though. I am wondering if you experience the same thing?

      @@andreasschmitt2307 No, because it accelerated on it's own. I had discovered a different reaction with magnets when you use the side of it next to a pole on the other magnet, it will push it sideways. Try it. It's pretty cool.

      @@danielfeyerabend904 I only tried Ferrite material. It did not help. LOL What I did was this. Take 2 magnets and hold them beside each other. Then rotate 1 90 degrees. You'll feel the magnet want to slide, or push sideways the other one. Line them up along the edge of a bicycle wheel in the same orientation. Then mount the actuating magnet close to the wheel. You will see what I mean. I tried to make the actuating magnet spin like a cam. Pull-slide-push for 180 degree rotation for each magnet on the wheel. For this, every other magnet must be 180 degrees rotated on the wheel. I got a linear plastic gear and mounted it around the wheel and had a pinion gear to spin the actuating gear. That did not do as well as the slide method though. I may revisit it some day. I still have the wheel, but it is stored in the garage and the foam board I used to mount the linear gear is all warped after spending a full day on getting it true round to keep the air gap consistent. LOL UGH!!!!! I could use that as a template still though.

    It wouldn't work. The bottom of the magnets would repel each other and bind up, not allowing a full stroke, which would seize the motion of the stroke.

      The configuration is irrelevant. Never mind what configuration is chosen, this design does not work. Permanent magnets are not a source of energy and can't drive a motor. In contrast, burning diesel does deliver energy.

    So for a second, let’s imagine you spin the crank shaft and it continued on its own. Let’s imagine you’ve solved the issue of friction. How much work could possibly be harvested before it stops?
    How long could it possibly sustain just its own rotation? You can forget about harvesting work from it.
    Now realize you can’t solve the friction problem. Remember not low friction, zero friction !! And harvest energy from it. You’re animation is a nice design study. But it’s an exercise in CAD, not physics.

      I don't entirely agree. The comparison between a magnet and a bicycle can only hold true as regards the materials used, the assembly of the rare earths. In order to work, the magnet must be subjected to an enormous electric discharge and it is this that gives it its characteristics, which are not unlimited. A magnet is not like a spring, it is instead more like filling a fuel tank of a device that generates a force, under certain conditions and which is therefore subject to the laws of physics. Of course, I agree with the conclusion.

      @@teresadepizzol9076 The production of the magnet (input production energy) is not a source of potential (the magnet does no work even when it is stuck on the fridge door dW=F*ds = 0. More is evident from the integral...). The potential (gradient) is visible only after putting in (mechanical) work, for example by pressing two magnets with corresponding poles, which is manifested by a noticeable resistance in the fingers of the hand. A spring behaves in the same way, or a bicycle, which can be set with diamonds, a frame made of rare earths, etc., but the movement is provided only by the mechanical work of the cyclist. It doesn't matter how much we invested in production. These are two things - a tool (magnet, spring, bicycle...), which must be produced with the contribution of some energy (according to the sophistication of the tool), and the use of the tool itself after applying additional force, for example muscle power. No sophisticated tool (not even a magnet) will start by itself. It is still one and the same principle, which many confuse with each other and the ideas of perpetuum mobile arise. It is possible to popularize this principle on other examples - the result will still be the same. The fatigue of the material, or the weakening of the magnetic field, is not about the potential in the gradient, but about the quality of using additional power, for example muscles.

    It will not works...You should put a revo exciter to maintain a rotation of the cycle....a starter which is the exciter should properly aligned each rotation.... You only need a minimum waste of energy for exciter to run that engine continuously....Thanks to GOD the source of ENERGY and to me that give you the IDEA on how the free energy works without faking it...FROM PHILIPPINES HERE...Thanks me later.

    a basic course in physics is what you need. This "engine" can't work. Magnets in this case are working as springs. you need to push them together before they repell each other, you see the energy that you use to push them together is the energy that you get minus losses. You need not dispise physics, it may actually make you a true inventor

    this wont work. you are showing attraction only from one side while the magnets will attract from every side. and one thing when you will transfer that energy there should create a lack of energy on the other side. which will tend to follow the third law of thermodynamics. but you have to show mathematical practical prof and evidence. otherwise, worthless. only works in imagination

      Magnets are used in motors, they don't lose their field. Or just very gradually over centuries, it doesn't matter here. Such magnetic contraptions don't work, this has nothing to do with degradation of the magnets.
