Thanks for the reminder on the brake hose, I replaced one front hose but never replaced the other front hose on my Camaro-- I bought one but never put it on. Thanks for the reminder. Keep up the good work.
Great video! These trucks were sometimes used up...completely. Brakes, motor, trans, steering, gauges. Everything needs to be touched. But it's great these are pretty simple without all the electronics and sensors that make new engines so difficult. Thanks for bringing it back to life!
Got good metal in it still....amazing. Nice find. Front brakes are 75% of your stopping power....very important. 😁 Nice old truck, Thanks for the video.
That is a good battery you got there. I worked on a 1970 F100 302. Some amateur put 3 gaskets under the carburetor and warped the throttle shaft. I Swap in a 2100 Autoline carburetor and it fired up just right. No major adjustments, just have a helper to put it in gear and set the mixture.
i'm really happy to see you bringin' this 'Ol Girl back to life! you've done a lot of Great work to her! you motivate me to get back on my '72 Shortbed i started 13 yrs. ago. thanks!
I understand about being frugal with spending and all. But I would have (and have done so myself) just went ahead and purchased new shoes and hardware kits for both sides. Especially rather than trying to refurb that rusty adjuster. It's just so inexpensive to replace it, especially where safety is concerned. On the plus side great job on that carb rebuild and it sounds pretty good idling in the shop! Get yourself a new radiator and cap, a look at that power steering and you'll be good to go. Wish I had a shop, especially one that size!
@@jeremyp888 lol we must watch similar types of videos. When work is slow there's not much else I can do since I need to be tied to my desk monitoring networks. So RUclips ends up being a good distraction that won't make me fall asleep.

pretty sweet old truck. I love those old bump side Fords. the power steering on them just used type F tranny fluid. if you use regular power steering fluid in it you will burn out the pump.
Nice work man, not sure how old you are but you’re very impressive. Can’t be anymore than 30.. and know what you know, able to drive a 3 on the tree. I stumbled upon your videos I’ll be following from now on! Keep up the good work.
Truck is in pretty decent shape considering i have seen a lot worse on vice grip garage's channel and dylan mccools channel. Would like to see the progress on this truck.
you probably already figured this out but for anyone needing to fix their choke cable there is a z bender tool for lawn mower cables that puts a new z bend in the end of cables that would fix this issue
Haha yep... learned that one the hard way. I figured a vehicle prior to the mid 70s wouldn't have a ported vacuum... it took me a minute to figure that out when I "had no vacuum at idle"
Looks like it needs clutch adjustment. It should start to pull the truck at 1-1/2 to 2 inches off the floor. If your knee comes up past your ear, it's time to adjust the clutch.
Ok ...so what punishment should we issue our host for calling drum brakes "rotors" folks? 10 lashes with an old fan belt or upper radiator hose perhaps?
I love the fact you can find an old car /truck in the woods get it running and drive it home in the US In the UK it's a bit more complicated than that ot has to be fully MOTED ( Ministry of transport tested ) and taxed and insured before it can go anywhere near the road
Well you do here also but a lot of states here are way out in the country miles away from town or people. He wouldnt drive it into the city without having it insured and registration payed.
You must adjust the idle lean screws in the front of the carb at the bottom to make it idle smooth. Use your vacuum gauge and take vacuum off the manifold some place. adjust for max vacuum about 17 to 21 lbs all are different.
I would recommend lining up the spark plug leads just to tidy up the engine bay a wee bit and prevent any cross sparking from them just in case. My only criticism. Liked your previous vid. Makes it more enjoyable seeing all the problems taken care of before you start cranking the engine about 100 times like u do in some videos other guys share.
I've had 2 different 73 model fords. First one had a 360 with a 4 on the floor (granny low) and the second one had a 302 with a 3 on the tree...both trucks were fun to drive, I was young then though and sold em..😔 still hate myself for it
When you tore the brake drum apart there was no self adjusters on it. you didn't show putting it back together but I assume you didn't know they are required (that they work is a different story). There is a cable with a eye ring on it that slips on before the brake springs at the top and goes around a pivot bracket that goes under the bottom of the rear brake spring. It hooks into a bracket that turns that self adjuster as the brakes cycle. With out them on you have to adjust that self adjuster as the pads wear.
The adjuster cable came with the turn adjuster kit... but there wasn't one installed when I pulled the pads.. so I made the assumption these trucks didn't have an auto adjuster... Now you've made me curious
My editing skills are growing. The newer videos have lots more music and transitions. I swear it takes me just as long to edit the videos as it does to shoot them
It turns out the vacuum advance canister was blown and just acting like a big vacuum leak! I replaced it with a new adjustable one, this week and posted a video of how to test it, replace it, and set it up. That motor is much happier now
Remember to insert a similar sized drill bit inside the bleeder before trying to torque it off so it doesn't get crushed, also try using heat then wd40 or similar lubricant
Brennon Harmon remember to put a drill bit same diameter as inside diameter of bleeder then wrench on it to prevent crushing it, also try heat and penetrating fluid
I noticed you don’t have power brakes/brake booster. About 8” diaphragm that bolts up to firewall and to master cylinder and connects to a vacuum line. That should help increasing the braking power. Cheaper fix for the time being, those disc conversion look to cost a pretty penny. It looks like my ‘69 F250 had one at one point but was taken off. Can see a plugged vacuum line just sitting in that area. Waiting on part to arrive in the mail and will install this weekend. Thanks for all the awesome videos and amazing content. Cheers!
Please buy a proper brake tool to deal with those springs. Makes the job so much easier. And you won’t bust up your hands like you can with vise grips.
Thanks! Someone commented earlier, "those adjusters are pretty cheap, and probably not worth the time" but it was getting late and I just wanted to see if the brakes would work.
You are the 3rd or 4th person to ask that.. its pulling air through the radiator. Ya'll made me nervous, so I went out, started the truck, and put a piece of plastic in front of the grille.. and the fan pulled it in. Maybe the camera speed makes it look like its spinning backwards?
Do all you midwest guys have full garages and all the land to do what you want how about pulling cars out of the woods with horses that would be awesome!!@
You really found this truck abandoned? How sweet! If I did that, the city cops would immediately arrest me for "stealing " it! I'd also have made a restomod out of it. Those antiquated drum brakes are useless and ill advisable to keep! Since you put money into it, it would have been a great idea to go to a junkyard and see about swapping the front end with a crown Victoria. I've seen a lot of people who've done just that, and it's actually a better and safer thing to do than refurbishing the original front end design, which even Ford admits was crap. By all appearances, your agenda seemed a quick start and flip for whatever you could get, but it doesn't seem to be turning out that way?!
Yeah the gauge actually works and shows good pressure... I probably should have checked that when I started it the 1st time.. but it wasn't clattering, so i never thought about it being a problem
