Alex Zarnardi was a 2 time world champion in Cart racing champion before this accident. He probably would have won more cart racing(indy car) championship's if it was not for this horrific accident.
@@whispercars306 He would have got more CART/Indycar titles if he wasn't enticed to go back to F1 where thing are not in his favour in WilliamF1 team, especially (according to his interview) Patrick Head. In Chip-Ganassi team they catered and set the car for him perfectly.
I'm in a wheelchair too after car-accident. First thing everyone says is: I'd kill myself. But once you get in such a situation, things are different and you wanna live on.
Toward the end he said it didn't change who he was. That feels like a very profound realization. @fk2007000, if you're still here, I'd like to know if you had a similar moment? I don't think I'd want to kill myself (what a thing to do to all those people who worked so hard to save me!), but I could see myself in a very deep depression.
Speaking as an above knee amputee myself the reason, or the reason as I see it, that a lot of amputees or just bad trauma cases fall into depression and self doubt has a whole lot to do not only with willpower but the pain medication that’s required at first to cope with it. So many people unknowingly get extremely addicted to pain medication after such things and that itself becomes more of an issue over time to fix than the injury itself. It’s a really really big problem. I’ve seen guys go years before they learn how to walk because they just don’t care to. And like myself I knew the dangers of it luckily and kicked them a month after I lost my leg and here I am 6 months later and I not only can walk but I just passed a federal exam to drive semi trucks again.
This man is truly a inspiration. To over come such a traumatic event in hes life rebuild hes life and to return to the sport he loves what great role model.
Alex had two options, and he made the right choice - legs or no legs, he still had a lot to live for, a great wife, good friends & a very supportive team. Legend !
Alex had a terrible accident a few hours ago and got critically injured. Now he’s in intensive care and I hope he will fully and quickly recover from this. He’s a legend and has seen even tougher moments in his life.
A legend, a real life superhero and a truly lovely man, Alex Zanardi is a very special person and I wish him all the best in yet another gruelling recovery
2:15- I completely understand where he’s coming from. I had the same thought process before my first deployment to Iraq. My best friend and I actually had an agreement that, if the circumstances and opportunity arose, he would “end it” for me on the spot if I lost my limbs. I agreed to the same for him. The conversation was surreal because it wasn’t a hypothetical scenario. At the time in Iraq it was a very real possibility. I’m glad that he has the constitution to share that thought publicly. I don’t think anyone outside of a profession that is extremely dangerous can comprehend that type of thought process. I also don’t think that it’s a rare thought process amongst people like us. Unlike Alex, thank god, I never had to deal with that situation. I like to think that I would’ve chosen the mental path that he chose- but thankfully, thus far, I haven’t been in that situation.
Every now and then I see or hear a person, and I think, "Man, my problems are so small, yet I make so much of them." Zanardi has always been a happy guy, and he said in this vid that at some point he realized he was still the same driver as before (which I take as still the same person as before). Why would I assume he would be any less happy after the crash? Still learning at 52!
It was wonderful to see him at the 24 hours of Daytona this year. He drove very well. He was outrunning a fair number of cars in his class. He is a beacon for perseverance. He is more man than many of us could ever be.
He is an amazing person. Age is just a number to him also that the challenges he faces daily doesn't define who he is as a person. His attitude about life defines who he is.
This guy is a hero . I loved the guy before his accident as a racing driver. Since the accident we've seen more than just an amazing racing driver. He's kind, brave, talented and he shows us that we should never quit.
An inspiration to all of us that moan about having to work or getting out of bed in the morning. Alex is a true hero ......Amazing mate......absolutely amazing.
Was always cheering Alex on !! Was watching the race live & when I saw the crash I said to myself we've lost another great champion !! But he proved what a great champion & person he is with a NEVER SAY DIE attitude !!!🏁🏁🏁
Zanardi is a great guy but why did Sky choose to run this on the F1 channel? Sure he raced in F1 but to little success and his fame was made in Indycar which then subsequently lead to his horrible crash and then after that the incredible way he bounced back. Sky are just bandwagoning off his misfortune IMO.
zanardi did really a stupid move which caused the crash and made him lose his legs. was not smart bring the car back on the track and get hit like it happened.
What an extraordinary lovely man! Now he's been in an accident again and it's critical, I so hope he will get through this as well. Pls fight Mr Zanardi!🙏
@@maggie210 Yes, so I read.🙏I am swedish and not very familiar with Alex Zanardi (although I have heard/read about him earlier on), but got so very affected by his story, his fighting spirit and mostly by his charisma and positive outlook on life! He has been through a lot, and now this..life is strange, putting so much burden on a person obviously already tested..It's not fair. Lets pray and hope for the best outcome there is for mr Zanardi!🙏❤
