This German road trip travel vlog we drive the romantic road in Bavaria, visiting fairytale towns along the way. This ultimate European road trip is a real-life Disney experience. We break down in our campervan in Rothenburg ob der Tauber which was not ideal for our van life series but forced us to sleep in the old city walls. This medieval town is picturesque with no tourists during this time. It one of the best things to do in Germany and a must-visit.

In 2017 we left home with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a sustainable travel lifestyle happen! We are now living our dream as digital nomads and want to inspire you to create your own story, whatever it may be!
After 5 years of aimless, yet enjoyable, backpacking around the world we found ourselves in New York City battling with depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on. After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle.
Our time spent battling depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. In our vlogs, we talk openly and honestly about our travel experiences, the digital nomad life and depression. We hope our videos can help to inspire you to create a life that makes you happy!

I’m an American...and I had an American burger in Sweden twice. In my defense, it was the restaurant’s bestseller and it was better than any burger I’ve had in the states.
Nice that you liked it in my home town Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Actually Walt Disney has been in Germany after the war and has photographed and measured the city. Rothenburg actually served Disney as a model for parts of his parks and many of his films as well as actually Beauty and the Beast.
Beautiful place, visited 3 years ago to see the area's in the town where some of the scenes from the film chitty chitty bang bang were filmed to.
I was in Fusen last summer and little did we know that all the restaurants close early in the evening and the only restaurant open was a Chinese one and we happily discovered they cooked up awesome dishes. Bavaria is a fairly tale country. Will visit again someday.
I love you guys! Been watching for a while now and think you're super underrated. You have amazing content and I love the humor and sarcasm! Keep being you!
Alex is always hilarious and Emma's laughter is contagious 😂
Thank you for the beautiful content. Stay safe!
1:26 Red kite. One of the most frequent birds of prey in that region. You can see the fork like tail which is red (for the red kite, not for the black kite;) and the wings are also skythe shapped. Then you have the buzzard, which is smaller, waits at the Autobahn and other roads for some mice to be killed by cars. His wings are blunt and round. Then you have the hawk, that is lighter than the buzzard, and you have the falcon, small and thin, he stands still in the air and ten suddenly falls down to catch a mouse.
wow. Awesome info. thanks. If you keep commenting like that, Alex is going to follow you. :)
German word: Rotmilan
Niiiice! Thanks for the info! We get quite a lot of buzzards where we live in Somerset in the UK and the odd kestrel.. We were shocked by how many cool birds we saw in mainland Europe 🤩
Don't forget the sparrowhawks (Sperber). There are lots of them in Franconia.
@@Dahlienliebe or Gabelweihe (because of the forked tail)
Wow! Looks so beautiful. Even the architecture in those places is so different to the UK 👍
My favorite "other" food was eating a German bratwurst served by a Spanish woman on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence!
Funny how the Kinder products are associated with Germany (through the German name, obviously) although the producer, Ferrero, is actually an Italian company. They also do also the other products which use the same font and color style for their names like Nutella, Hanuta, Duplo, etc. and a number more of better known sweet snacks like Rocher and Raffaelo.
The German markets would be amazing! Do it!
Best non local food was an Italian restaurant on avenue Rapp near the Eiffel Tower across from our AirBNB. It was so good we ate there twice and the night of the terrorist attacks in 2015 we got take out there. So it has amazing memories for us and it became like our home away from home and it was delish.
Love your (british?) humour and the way you are commenting everything! ;-) Rothenburg was really a ghost town when you visited it, normally it is super-crowded. Greetings from Freiburg.
❤❤❤ we absolutely loved this video. You guys are the absolute best.
Rothenberg and Fussen are my fav places. Been several times.
You know you've struck it lucky somewhere when you have to remind yourself its real life and not a movie set - I was in the Lake District last weekend and kept looking up and doing the same! ....and then the tyres goes haha.
The lake district is one of our favourite places in the UK.. So beautiful!
Ok.....I’m sold..... this is now on my list. Wow.
On the recommendation of your friends , Jits Into The Sunset, I log onto your site, needless to say I am very happy i did such, you guys are a "Hoot!" Rothenburg is one of my favorite locations in Germany. I have been there three times, my first visit was in 1985 when I was a guest of BMW for a 29 day tour of Germany. My last visit was in 2020 while we were on a Viking River Cruise "Christmas Market Cruise" and we both along with a another couple had lunch there and a few beers and later in the day, some killer deserts. Another location we so enjoyed was Garmish Perkenstein, the shopping and dining there is wonderful. I often tell my wife if we could move to Germany I would be a very camper!!
If it's good enough for the Beans, it's good enough for me. Although it wasn't a sunny day today, the city was very picturesque and not too many people visiting. I even managed to have a Bratwurst and beer, not a bad day!
You had me at sausage and beer. We’re in!!
We would definitely be on that Christmas trip ....... Mulled wine and food... It's easy to be nice to such a nice couple 😊❤️
I would happily go around German christmas markets eating and drinking with my fellow beans. It may be best to leave it a year or two before considering it though.
fun fact: Rothenburg ob der Tauber was the insparation for the town in beauty and the
beast.😊
Rothenburg o.d. Tauber is truly beautiful. It's where I started dating my wife :) We live right next to the romantic road and videos like yours remind me to appreciate this place more often. I mean ... yes, people do live here. And I know exactly what you felt back there
The mountains are astonishing
We went to the markets in Munich and Nuremberg last year. Totally awesome!!
It's a brilliant trip. Myself and my wife did it in 2 separate trips. It was so good we decided to slow down. So we started it in 2016 and did the second half in 2017.
One of the best scenic road trips I've seen. Such a lovely place indeed.
It is so hilarious how Alex feels that he complains all the time because I never, ever feel that He or Emma are unhappy (unless ill, of course). There is a difference in expressing one's general feeling and impressions and being genuine. I find that other travel vloggers, sadly American, and some whom you have traveled with, complain so much. They seem entitled, and rather disrespectful of their opportunities and experiences. So much so that I refuse to watch them. So, thank you both for always rolling up your sleeves, being on that edge of discomfort and fear and doing it anyway. For having great attitudes, and providing content for those of us who are unable to travel the world for whatever reason! We appreciate your work, authenticity, and gratitude. Stay well and keep exploring.
Nope, not true about Americans. I'm not sure what Americans have given you the impression that they all complain and are disrespectful and unappreciative. Trust me, the vast majority are very appreciative of the opportunity to travel and respect other cultures. Please don't judge American travelers by the vlogs you've seen. That's a very small sample of how Americans feel about the wonderful opportunities to experience and appreciate other countries.
@@Chillaxing113 I appreciate your point of view. As an American, I have witnessed the poor behavior whilst traveling and have seen many a vlog, as mentioned. It is not all Americans, for sure, but I have seen many who complain more than show gratitude. That's just my perspective. Be well 🙂
Yes please...Christmas in Germany....YES!...This is how I see the world is through your travels.
Best non-local food: I discovered shawarma and coffee with cardamom as a language student in St Petersburg. Lived of it for almost a year later in Damascus. And discovered Okonomiyaki in Vancouver, prepared by a lovely Chinese family restaurant. Went all the way to Hiroshima to discover it again. (the more common Osaka version is not as good).
German Christmas Markets? I'm there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have all-nighters.
I live in Houston, Tx.....but I'm originally from Schwabach by Nürnberg, my sister actually got married in Rothenburg odT. It was nice to watch you guys there! ✌️😀👍
The wife and I would definitely travel across to the best Christmas markets in Bavaria
Love the video. Thank you so much. Donna
Some of the village scenes from chitty chitty bang bang where filmed in Rothenburg. After asking a local we found the village square where the child catcher rode into offering free ice cream to catch the children.
Rothenburg o.d. Tauber was a filming location in the "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" movie The Toymakers Workshop was part of an old Hospital. Füssen Railway Station was also a filming location in "The Great Escape" movie.
I would definitely do a German Christmas market tour!! I’ve never been to a European Christmas market. Canada doesn’t have any, at least where I’m from
It really is great. We have been to some terrible ones that are just token markets. The one we went to in Wroclaw Poland is the best we have seen so far
I’ve actually gotten to so this before! A few years ago my brother had our whole family do a 15 day tour around Germany, Austria and Sweden by train where we saw loads of different Christmas markets along the way... probably 20-30 total! It was awesome! I’d definitely join if you guys did another one! (But I might be bringing an extra half dozen with me... 🤷🏻♀️) 😂
@@TravelBeans Wroclaw (The German name is Breslau, German until 1945) ... has had wonderful Christmas markets for centuries.
I would recommend Strasbourg (French-German border) ... very beautifull christmas market there
Canada has some nice Christmas markets in Quebec City and Montreal.
Y’all are so much fun to watch while you’re on your adventures. You’ve been placed both in USA and overseas I would love to visit. I live vicariously through your travel videos.
Thank you so much Emma & Alex for each and every video to create.
😊🎉❤ y’all are awesome 🤩!
Have a wonderful day
First night in Germany didn't arrive at the B&B until early evening. We walked around the little town trying to find something to eat. Only thing open---gyros. I feel your pain.
I love watching you guys. You bring a smile to my day. Must do this road trip when life gets back to normal.
If you come to Bavaria again and you are close to Bamberg you should go there and drink some Rauchbier (smoked beer). Both Bamberg and the beer are awesome.
Aww, I so loved being transported to these German towns from Montreal!
wow it looks so amazing there
My favourite pizza abroad was Pizza Hut..
Back in early 00's
This is so similar with the region Transylvania in Romania. Cities like Sighișoara, Sibiu, Brașov you guys would absolutely adore
We're doing a German Christmas market vacation this year! I can't wait!! :)
I once ate Mexican food at a place named Señor Zorba's on Santorini because it had an amazing view and there were only a few people there, so we had a cliff-front view of the caldera and water... the food was total shyte. However, the beer was cold and you can't fuck up tortilla chips and an amazing view.
Beautiful views. Thank you for sharing 😊😜
Bummer about the tire but at least it got fixed pretty easy and gave you a good excuse to have a little more time in the beautiful village. My family and I also enjoyed a trip to Rothenburg several years ago but it was much busier than when you were there. I still would have loved to stayed another week or so just to explore all the nooks and crannies.
I would definitely come along for a Beans German Christmas Market tour.
My most favourite couple at it again, you're both the loveliest, keep it up and drive safely... cheers!
In my opinion, Rothenburg ob der Tauber is the most beautiful city in Germany. You guys were lucky to have it's beauty almost to yourselves. Loving your videos and you guys are a blast.
Another great video!
The best non local food was a little Mexican restaurant in Phnom Penh Cambodia. Completely delicious, slightly Asian version of our favourite food with genuine Corona beer. When you miss home eat your comfort food!
We're intrigued! We await a potential trip. 😁
No food shaming here!! 😂😂😂 pizza is a good group anyway 😉
You have to check out also Coburg in Bavaria . We have a nice Castle and also the famous Coburger Bratwurst and lot of more nice Things
kinder is actually italian chocolate. German chocolate would be eg Milka (swiss-german) or Ritter Sport. :)
one of the most beautifull "Weihnachtsmarkt" in germany you will find in "Bad Wimpfen" :)
1st bird is a member of the raptor family.. a Kyte... we have them up and down the A34.... red kytes
Shocked at how undiscovered you are. Thanks for giving us plenty of quarantine entertainment!
I’ll do the German Christmas markets with you! I love them, Stuttgart is one of the best but I’ve been to quite a few. Love a glueing and a good bratwurst. Great videos Beans, loving your channel. 😘
Pity the "BEAN A BAGO" had a flat, At least it was only flat on the bottom HAHA, Not everything goes to plan but you guys make the most of things as they happen. Stay safe
Visit Speyer in Rhein Land Pfalz
With 2000 years old Dom
And the Altstadtfest is Amazing 😁
Was there last year!!! Absolutely a must see!! Beautiful city.
I’ve eaten German food in Rothenburg twice, and both times were catastrophically bad, think most shameless tourist traps imaginable. I’m surprised you found a good restaurant. Good job!
i swear i had the best italian ever, even counting italy, in beruit about 5 years ago
I had excellent sushi and Ramen at UNO restaurant in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It was a wonderful location with welcoming staff. I feel if you're already on an adventure, be adventurous. I also had amazing Chinese food in Melbourne Australia. Hmmm, maybe I should visit Asia next... to find a nice pizza.
Such a beautiful, old place :)
Love the idea of a Christmas market trip, was actually planning one myself!
Had a brilliant Indian Curry in Kyoto. It was raining and it seemed like a good idea and a change from raw fish. Didnt even have any Delhi belly
We are doing this in December with the Christmas markets in our motorhome. Great video thanks.
I was a military brat born in Bremerhaven Germany. My family went back in 1983-1986 I believe. I remember the Bratwurst at carnival as being the best ever!. PS: My wife an I would do a tour in Germany especially if it went through Zweinrucken Germany.
It makes you think: How many of these magnificient views were destroyed in the war? Even Rothenburg was bombed and had to be rebuilt to a large extent.
Still, Bavaria is my favourite part of Germany, too. Dinkelsbühl, not far south of Rothenburg ob der Tauber (there are plenty of other Rothenburgs) is wonderful too and not a tourist in sight!
They towns keep the colors they've had for years. The Christmas market in Rotenburg is nice, but Stuttgart has the best one. It's over 300 years old and has everything.
I have been there at Christmas time a few times and it is beautiful.
Brand new subscriber, fellow explorer and van lifer. I can honestly say with no hesitation that you guys are my absolute favourite RUclipsrs, and I've only seen 4 videos so far! Your energy, humour, filming, everything! Especially Emma's laugh, it's so infectious! From someone who has been struggling with mental health during lockdown you guys are a breath of fresh air.
Something "bad" had to happen because it is a fairytale village!! Every Disney princess movie has taught me this lol! Adding the Romantic Road to my travel wish list now.
Perfect! You're so right.
Hope you make it to the Netherlands sometime....those villages in Germany look so neat! Thanks!
We are looking at going there for our next trip that we are filming very soon 😊
@@TravelBeans a coast trip from the Netherlands/Frisia up to Nordfriesa I can recoment even tho its the same ocean the villages and the nature is constanly changing
100% yes to the Christmas market trip, your making me want a van so bad lol. Thanks travel Beans x
My wife and I would love to go on a Christmas Market Beans trip!
I had samosas and masala chai tea at the leaning tower of Pisa and it was E P I C.
If you go to german christmas markets, join us here in Esslingen at the neckar (next to Stuttgart). its a medival market and he is sooo beautiful
Talking about Christmas. In Rothenburg ob der Tauber is one of the biggest Christmas store open the whole year.
You've seen more of germany than me. And I am german! This looks so nice, I would be totally up for a Christmas Market Extravaganza with the Beans …😀
Really inspiring you guys are .. got encouraged by you to take my bag ans start a intresting travel like this .. very beautifully presented by the most enthusiastic couple travelers .. thank you
love your road trip expirience. greetings from west germany :)
I had the best (and only) Syrian food in Germany and by the way, the best Christmas markets in Germany are in Saxony not in Bavaria :P I highly recommend the Christmas markets in the region "Erzgebirge" which means ore mountains. The Germans also call the Erzgebirge Christmas land, it is so lovely in December.
Bavaria looks incredible! BTW, one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever eaten in was in Bangkok. The chef was from Milan and picked out the menu every day based on what he wanted to cook and what was fresh in the market!
We'd be totally down for that never-gonna-happen tour of the Christmas Markets! Also, we have totally done the "Let's get a pizza" when we've been in Spain or France or wherever. When we were in Italy, we got a pizza too. To be fair, it was all we could find to eat! 😂
"why? because Its nice to be nice" thank you, this will be my new daily mantra. :-)
Thank you for sharing this video, it brought back a lot of fond memories of touring with my parents+ whilst living in France when I was a wee lad. Germany is a magical country. I would love to join you on a walk about of a Christmas Market, it will soon be 60 years since I last went to one. Slàinte🏴
We spent a night in Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber last year and it was magical. Can't wait to go back!
My wife would love it just been to Cheddar and loved the Xmas shop in August 😂
My wife and I once had a delicious burger and beer in Venice!!
I love German city night markets!
AS for other cuisines, we had the best Mexican food in New Zealand and Thailand a few years back, you never know what you're going to find :D
Wow, that is some pretty sight seeing. I've commented before. Come to Zacatecas Mexico! Fan from Arizona.
I’m late to this party but I would 100% do a Christmas Markets Trip with y’all
Beautiful town
"Kinder" is an Italian company .
Really enjoy watching you guys. G’Day from 🇦🇺
