It’s fun. Do it! The good thing is there’s really no way to permanently hurt anything and you can always just take it to a repair tech to finish if you can’t get it. (as long as you tape off the neck to avoid any scratches on the neck). I just finished mine based off of this video and it went great! Took two tries because I ended up chipping some of the cork off on the first round when I was folding it right now, but the next time I just eat at the corner of a little bit and it went great.
@@sleeptil3 I have had 2 failed attempts at it now :D I am waiting for the glue to dry to try a third time. It is not terribly hard to do it and the glue I have can be dissolved with nail polish remover. So it is not that terrible to try it a few times. I've got the cork for fairly cheap. My first attempt was misaligned and I tried to correct it. The cork broke :D For the second attempt my cork was too short. So I hope the third will be okay :D
Great video. Using your technique, valentino cork and your adhesive I successfully replaced the neck cork on my alto sax! Looks great. My Jody Jazz metal mouthpiece is now happy again!
probably too late but you can just sand down the cork with some fine sand paper. I usually start with somewhere between 120-220 and finish with 300-400 grit paper.
Exelent and profesional video. I try to put a cork on my saxophone Bud I can’t the cork is to tick the mouthpiece don’t fit on it I don’t know if I need to get especial side cork. or I don’t know.
Hello there Jeff, That's a great video(tutorial), but there is a thing that bothers me a bit. There are few offers on Cork plate layer like 1.00/2/3 mm and how should I know which one to use for my tenor? Thanks in advance
Cool I think I can do this I took my sax I to a music store to get the cork fixed and they wanted to charge me $700 to replace the pads and everything else but all I want is the cork fixed
No need to use cork for this, just use the EVA which is perfect! EVA does not take humidity lasts longer, and does not deform even if the mouthpiece is directly on sax for a long period of tempo.Basta use any glue contact and pronto.Uma EVA sheet 1-1, 5 mm thick by 40cm 50cmx costs R $ 1.5 and R $ 3.00 to glue the tube! I use many years ago and is perfect !!!
EVA is a rubberized that is sold in sheets of different thicknesses! It is often used in school work of children, and here is found in stationery stores. We utilize a thickness of 1.5 mm. Here in Brazil to purchase a sheet of 60 cm x 40 cm for U $ 0.30 or less. EVA has the same texture and flexibility of cork and the lifetime, depending on the quality, it may be even greater than cork. With a sheet you can use to more than 50 instruments with ease. I use this material for a long time, successfully!
Please get rid of the background music. It makes it hard to listen to you. Other then that, it was a great presentation and I ended up with a job well done. Thanks
you forgot to finish your sentence. I'll help you. Although I found the backgroumd music to be too loud, I did find the video to be informative and very useful. Thank you for great post. We bring something to the table. We don't take away.
Thanks! This was great. Just did my first cork replacement and it turned out beautiful! Only took two tries! Wish I could share pics on here!
Great video, although I do not have the courage to do this myself, it's good to be informed.

Wow, simply outstanding. Thankyou.
Please tell us about the adhesive or the cement details to fix the cork with neck
I wish you had links to the self adhesive cork sheets, the air heater and the glue
You said to thin the adhesive glue if necessary. With water ? Alcohol ? Turpentine ?
Amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Nice cork what kind of cork is that?
Thanks for this very instructive video. I ask you, what thickness of cork sheet do you recommend for the neck of a soprano sax?

Typically 1.5mm (1/16"). Cheers!
Thanks so much for the great video. What do you use to thin your contact cement?

Hi, great video ! I also really like that kind of gas burner . Is it handmade or can you tell me the brand/model? Thank you
It's one we sell. www.jlsmithco.com/general-bench-tools/portable-burner-with-angled-head
Does this work for Tenor Sax?
Yes-it sure does.
Or a dozen or so elastic bands will do just as well.
Better in a way, as you can make the grip as tight or slack as you need.
