  • Horn compression test, rotor 2. This is after working to refit the rotor, including shimming the bottom bearing plate and applying the thickest oil avail to rotor 2 (Windsmith Music, Philomath, OR).
Valve 2 was destroyed at some point in the past (I don't know how), and the repair was poorly done, leaving the valve case deformed (out of round), the upper and lower bearing plates out of alignment, and massive blow-by. The original hollow-core rotor is gone, there's a poorly fitting solid-core replacement in there now. The lower bearing plate was removed (or broke off), and soldered back into place. This is an otherwise beautiful horn, the other valves are in very good condition. It's worth investigating options to save what is otherwise a top quality instrument.
