They are super adorable, same thing happened to us when my partner and I were upgrading our community fishes tank we couldn't find one of our last loaches, we looked all over the decor, plants, the substrate, and even the room to see if he jumped out, but to our surprise he was just hidden in the substrate really well for about two days! I yelled excitingly to my partner that he wasnt gone and was just hidden really well in the sand 😂 hes still happily swimming with his other schooling buddies seeming unfazed or not really hurt by being there for quite a while
I love my little wiggle fish. I gotta say that I got a group of 6 and they also like to come out during the day and wiggle around. They usually run away if I get close to the aquarium during the day but if not I see they squirming around to find food in the front of the tank.
So cute! I want some of them. I have black kuhuli loaches. But having a hard time finding striped ones. I love loaches! I cover my tank. Hey thank you for saying my name. You're are awesome A Gamer's Wife! 💖🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟😊
@Le Baguette Yes, as long as there are places for them to hide and you have food that sinks to the bottom. These are just general tips though, so do more research if needed!
@Le Baguette That's plenty of room and hiding places. You can keep ~6 in a 20 gallon, so with that much space and all those plants they'll think they're in heaven :)
For someone like me, who loves Ferrets and Snakes (and kept/keeping them both), this is exactly why the Kuhli Loaches caught my eye. I am more into reptiles, but recently started with Aquariums too. It started when I bought a waterplant for a watergarden-display, and after 2 weeks I found some little snails in there. So what do sane people do? Toss them out... leave them be and see what happens...? Well I decided to buy a whole Nano-Tank for them lol. I will add some shrimp soon since they are just adorable. Apart from that I am not really too much into regular fish, but when I saw the Kuhli Loaches, my heart made like a little jump. Now I fear I have to start another tank with some of them lol. What did these 2mm big snails do to me XD
I have a fishtank in my room and put a few tetras and 3 kuhli loaches. It was a 5 gallon tank so when the tetras died and so did the loaches a few months later I thought I lost all of them. Not feeding cleaning doing anything to that tank just letting it run for 7 months. Yesterday I finally decided to throw the tank away and when I went to take out my decorations there was still one in there. I will cherish him with my life. He cannot die. I fed him all the food he could handle and now he’s happy. He is my king. I worship him. For he survived the survivor. By sheer will he survived.

One of my favorite freshwater fish by far! They're adorable, perfect for small planted tanks, and a perfect alternative when you don't have the means to keep a snake or eel. Plus, whenever I drop food in their tank, they smell it and start wiggling and sniffling around like crazy. I can't get enough of them!

Solid information poured out here, kudos to you! Just to share, my observation of loaches in the wild reveals their mysteriously skittish behavior of darting about in the tank which you've highlighted in this vid. Loaches are active *micropredators* with a keen sense of smell & just about the only reason they move is actually to hunt! And they are not at all shy. For example, here in Singapore these loaches are native to forest streams & are endangered. Here, amongst mulm & leaf litter on a substrate of gravel the loaches scrutinise every crevice found on the bottom aggregate. For microorganisms like ostracods & cladocerans. i totally agree kuhlis are the coolest fish in my tank. i have a very densely planted tank with about 6 and i see them out all the time ive also noticed that i hardly see any pond snails anymore. so i believe having them keeps the snails population in check. great video

Great video and timely. I have a trip to the LFS this morning for an order of a dozen salt & pepper corys. I’ve been wanting kuhlis in one of the tanks too. If I see them I’m getting them!
I love kuhli loaches they are truly individuals, I have been fortunate in that I always ended up getting very active ones. I am a night owl so I see even the shy ones at around 1 am. I have the same story with an old aquarium, it had been torn down for at least 4 months with water just deep enough to cover the gravel, no pump no heater.. I was scooping out the gravel to wash it ... and lo and behold there he was! I felt terrible and cleaned the tank out and popped him back in and he lived for years. I have been unable to find them near me for the past ohh.... 5 years? So i was thrilled when my local pet store ended up with 1... yes one... So he has no buddies yet, but I am hoping they get in more soon! Great starter fish and one I started with years and years ago as a complete newbie. I had him for at least 8 years... and back then I didn't even know they prefered to be in groups. I have grown quite partial to them!
I keep a group of 3 in my 10 gallon betta tank and they get along great. The betta sleeps while the loaches swim and while the batta is awake they will just swim near the bottom.
thank you for this! i just started my first tank and im in the cycling process really wanted to know which tank mate would work best with my future betta, definitely settling for 3 kuhli loaches in my 10 gallon :)
I have a 5.5 gal tank with several White clouds. I have a few snails rn but I want to switch for some cleaning fish. Do you think 3 of these would be okay? I couldn’t get more than 3 because of the size of my tank
I just started fishkeeping. I just got 6 Kuhlis in a 55 gallon and they have some hiding spots, but they still just chill out in the open. They are really cool and my 5 month old loves watching them
I got 6 of these recently and I am so glad I did. They were a bit shy at first, but now I see them all the time. Theres 3 I see regularly, and later at night I’ll see 5. There’s just one tiny one I rarely see. I put a lot of leaves, plants, rocks, and wood for them to hide in, so maybe that’s why. Even when I clean the tank or move things, they will swim around my hand, not shy at all. Sudden movements seems to be what scares them.
I've had mine for over 10 years and am looking for some more as they are starting to die of old age. Have had them (9) with assorted tetras, dannios, and guppies. 30gal cube shaped tank with smaller smooth gravel, several flat rocks pushed into the slope of the gravel facing the front for caves, lots of plants, and around 74°f. One of my favorites!
i agree with you about their supposed shyness. i had ONE that (still does) eats at the top with the surface dwellers. with 3 now i see LESS of them. so social that when there was one, seemingly it wanted the company of other fish. 3 of their kind and now they are snooty and i see less of them. a fantastic fish!
I have a shoal of Kuhli Loaches and they are super cute and full of personality. Mine are pretty active and love exploring around. But I focus on Blackwater and have dim lighting to make them cozy with the rest my blackwater fish. can't say enough how much I love these little goofy guys.
Got a friend of mine into the hobby. She really wanted Khuli loaches so I got her a pair as a gift after her aquarium was acclimated. She’s had them about 4 years now. And a few more she has added. Rescaped her whole tank to keep them happy.. sandy bottom, lots of hiding spots, plants, special foods. It’s adorable. Never tried them myself because they look like snakes 🐍 eeeek!
Your channel is amazing! Iv watched so many videos since iv fallen in love with the fish hobby recently and everytime I think about what I want next i think to myself... I wonder if girl talks fish had a video on it👁👄👁 the point is your videos are like just so estetically pleasing and full of infl at the same time!
I've kept these little guys off and on since the late 70s or early 80s. They are one of my favorites. The only premature losses have been to ones that find a space between the filter and the lid where they jump out when they are zooming around the tank. Like the tank in the video, that was left for a year, mine was in the garage for a few months, hot as blazes at times, and when I dumped it a kuhli popped out. He lived out the rest of his life in a friends community tank. Hardy little guys.
In my tank, I have a beta, snails, 2 zebra loaches, a Molly, and a khuli. Mine was very shy the first week or 2, but lately, I have seen him swim with my other loaches and play around with them. If i find any more, I’ll definitely get them.
These lil guys are probably the coolest fish in my 75g betta sorority, been eyeing to snag a few from my LFS and managed to grab 2 remaining babies and they are chilling n hanging out like yours 24/7, they are the coolest cute little wigglers in the hobby, I plan on adding more when the opportunity rises, they have the cutest face and my kids loves them, win win
Ha! That story about the Kuhli Loach living in the emptied aquarium... When I was a kid, I drained-but-never-emptied an aquarium. When I went to set it up again ages later, I was shocked to find a giant Bronze Catfish living in a puddle under the partially-removed undergravel filter. Surprised the crap out of me...
I have two at the moment (Jean and Marco) in my tank and they always explore together. I often see then interact with each other a lot (they do what I can best describe as kissing or grooming each other, it looks like it at least) but are not very shy. I only have one Betta and a snail with them and Kayn, my Betta, is extremely peaceful with them. They are probably my favourite fish at the moment and it gives me so much joy watching the pair sociliase with each other.
I'm looking into these as a possible predator of planaria worms. Would they eat those? Thank you for another excellent presentation. These will definitely cover an area of my aquarium that doesn't get much attention from the current residents.
I can't say for sure but ever since I got them the planaria disappeared from my tank. It could be a coincidence but I don't think so. It used to be quite bad.
Hey there's another fish like these there called Reed fish and they grow really long there relatively easy to care for needing a tropical tank im not sure if planted but mine enjoys the shade of plants and likes to hide, they also love bloodworm
I just got some Kuhli loaches and some Golden Dojo loaches (different tanks), and they're incredibly entertaining to watch. My girlfriend hates them (too squiggly for her), but I think they're awesome!
I got 3 of these for my 10 gallon and they all jumped out during the first night. Found all 3 on the floor in the morning. make sure you havea lid for them!
I had a few Kuhlis in a community tank some years ago. I hadn't seen the Kuhlis for many months and assumed they had died. When I had to sell the tank in order to move to a smaller place, I caught all the fish that I thought I had; removed all the rocks and plants and drained it till there was only about an inch of water left. I then scooped out all the gravel into a bucket. Lo and behold! When I was about to tip the remaining water away, I caught a glimpse of something swimming in the dirty water. It turned out that all my Kuhlis must have buried themselves in the gravel and as I scooped it out, they emerged! They were all fit and healthy.
I can confirm your loach story at the end.... I once removed all the fish and completely drained a tank.... left the dredges of sand/rocks at the bottom.... Put the tank in the garage for months... Went back in to scoop out the dredges at the bottom and just toss them into my outdoor pond... Then I see a loach swimming around in my net as I'm scooping sand/rocks out... I'm sure was very happy to be transferred to my pond after being stuck at the bottom of an old aquarium with no water/food/heat/filter in my garage for months!
My kuhli loach wasn't shy, even when she was living alone, got her two buddies and they became very active. They go around in the day and forage even though i only have two hardscape decorations. Though i have good plants for them to hide there favourite places are under the prefilter, inside the barrel, and under the gazebo which i placed carefully that they can slide under. The gravel i was lucky to have softer clay based but I had no idea about substrate when I did get them. Just lucky to have them thrive
I think Kuhli loaches are awesome, and I think of them as miniature eels. I have Seiryu stones, and I noticed they shifted the sand around the one stone and created a cave. They constantly go in and out from there. Furthermore, I truly enjoy seeing them entangle themselves within the Java fern roots. I was quite amused seeing how your loaches entangled in the frogbit and came up to the surface to eat because mind never does it. Lastly, I recently bought Panda Garra, and I must say, I think you will enjoy that rare type of fish because they are small exceptional algae eater as well as super active.
stumbled across this video, sat here watching my khulis swim around. Its funny everywhere recommends sand, 300L (65 Gal) tank has a dedicated sandy area specifically for the kuhlis but they spend more time in the tetra active substrate on the opposite end of the tank.
50+ years ago I had a kuhli in my 10g guppy tank. When I moved out and the tank was left unattended for 4+ years, only a few inches of water left, that loach was the sole survivor. No filtering, no heating, no external food. Very similar to dean's loach.
i have 3 bronze juveniles corydoras right now i keep in my shrimps blackwater but once i get a 55 gallon tank to move them into im thinking of getting them some kuhlis as roommates :) i love these sweet boys and their cute little whiskers
I recently received 2 from my mom for my tank and they are the best little critters ever! I named them Spaghetti and Noodle. Spaghetti is smaller with one singular spot between two stripes by his tail and Noodle has more spots along his back which a bigger tail. Spaghetti is the more social one but Noodle plays hide and seek with me. Every time I spot him he'll duck down and find a different hole to peep out at me from until I find him. I love my little wormy dealies.
I got two kuhli loach from a friend who could no longer keep them. I released them to my community tank and didnt see them for 2 years. Today I decided to redo my aquarium setup and I found 5! My water temperatures have always been on the cold side, so I was really surprised

Great video and timely. I have a trip to the LFS this morning for an order of a dozen salt & pepper corys. I’ve been wanting kuhlis in one of the tanks too. If I see them I’m getting them!
Had Kuhlis in my first aquarium. They would hide in the seashells during the day and come out at night.
I have one kuhli losch right now and he is always out. He knows when it is around feeding time and he loves it. Can’t wait to get more
I love kuhli loaches they are truly individuals, I have been fortunate in that I always ended up getting very active ones.
I love them! Never had any, but seeing them a lot on sites like this and want some. They are so cool.
Love this video, these little guys are so underrated. Great little species spot light video!
Thank you! They're definitely one of my new favorite fish. :)
my first piece of content of yours - love your energy :) Thanks for the advice - subscribed!
Loved this video! These have to be one of my favorite beginner fish species, as I'm a relatively new fish hobbyist ^.^
I’ve been loving my Khuli loaches they swim and have so much personality
I keep a group of 3 in my 10 gallon betta tank and they get along great. The betta sleeps while the loaches swim and while the batta is awake they will just swim near the bottom.
thank you for this! i just started my first tank and im in the cycling process really wanted to know which tank mate would work best with my future betta, definitely settling for 3 kuhli loaches in my 10 gallon :)
Me too I'm starting a tank
I have a 5.5 gal tank with several White clouds. I have a few snails rn but I want to switch for some cleaning fish. Do you think 3 of these would be okay? I couldn’t get more than 3 because of the size of my tank
@@talileonard2553 Don't think that's big enough.
Hi! I have a betta in a 10 gallon and was thinking of getting some loaches!! Is a 10 gallon really ok for them? Thank you so much!!
Super informational and well edited video! I would love to see a video on dojo/weather loaches your style is much more inviting than others
It's looking at me with reproach
LOVE my kuhlis I love snakes and seeing them everyday has made me want a snake I can handle and I’m actually getting a banana ball python haha 🐍
How fun! I totally want a snake some day. :)
i agree with you about their supposed shyness. i had ONE that (still does) eats at the top with the surface dwellers. with 3 now i see LESS of them. so social that when there was one, seemingly it wanted the company of other fish.
3 of their kind and now they are snooty and i see less of them.
a fantastic fish!
This was such a cute and helpful video! I love the way you added the sources too(: Very cool!
Thank you so much! I loved being able to tell Spotty and Dotty's story while still being educational. :)
I have a shoal of Kuhli Loaches and they are super cute and full of personality. Mine are pretty active and love exploring around. But I focus on Blackwater and have dim lighting to make them cozy with the rest my blackwater fish. can't say enough how much I love these little goofy guys.
I love your black substrate/ live plant aesthetic.
I just picked some up today! They are amazing!
Wonderful video! Thanks for the info it was very informative.
Love your content. So helpful. Thank you!!!!
Favorite fish guide channel, thank you for educating me!
Great video production and filming! Thank you.
Thank you so much!
They love to swim up in my betta’s floating log and hang out with him! Haha!
Thank you so much! That was extremely HELPFUL!
In my tank, I have a beta, snails, 2 zebra loaches, a Molly, and a khuli. Mine was very shy the first week or 2, but lately, I have seen him swim with my other loaches and play around with them. If i find any more, I’ll definitely get them.
An old video but very very helpful. I love these little guys and the hillstream loaches. Very very cool
Lol, that's crazy! I probably would've screamed if I had found a long-lost fish like that.
Utterly love mine, some days you think they’ve all escaped and the next they are sat at the front
Lol, so true!
I have four of these guys and I love them so much!
Hey there's another fish like these there called Reed fish and they grow really long there relatively easy to care for needing a tropical tank im not sure if planted but mine enjoys the shade of plants and likes to hide, they also love bloodworm
just got them and can't stop watching them , they are so cute
My all time favorite fish. I once had a 15 year old kuhli!
I love Kuhli loaches they’re so cute 🥺💕
Always great info. Thank you
Nice video. They have a very cute face and I like how they swin. And your axolotl earrings are cute too XD.
Thank you! My friend got them for me from Etsy.
My 2 favorite loachs are hillstream and kuhli! Definitely my favorite bottom feeders
Aren’t they the cutest, love mine! 👍🏻❤️ Mine live with a betta and a swordtail.
Great videos and very informative 😃 thanks!
Had some black kuhlis forever. Awesome fish to talk about and got a new sub to your channel.
Thank you so much!
I just got some Kuhli loaches and some Golden Dojo loaches (different tanks), and they're incredibly entertaining to watch. My girlfriend hates them (too squiggly for her), but I think they're awesome!
Step 1: Buy more loaches!!!
Step 2: Dump gf...
Step 3: Repeat step 1...
I have 2 khuli, 2 dojo, and 2 yoyo in my 33 long and I love them so much!
I got 3 of these for my 10 gallon and they all jumped out during the first night. Found all 3 on the floor in the morning. make sure you havea lid for them!
I love mine. they're playful and funny to watch
👍Thank you for your Video😍 I Keep Kuhli Loaches for 35 years. I Love them and i think they have cute Faces 😉✨ Greetings from Germany
I love your videos:)
Oh my gosh, _I love them._
Cool on the “lost loach!”
I have 8 of them in 70 gallon aquarium planted tanks with no heater and I live in Alberta Calgary and there doing fine in 60 degrees
That's incredible! Definitely 1 vote for them being cold water fish. :)
I looove the look of panda garras and would love to get them one day! 🐼
Thank you for the guide I bought two of them and I never owned these guys before. Luckily my tank set up has a lot of plants for hiding spots.
Oh good, I hope you enjoy them!
stumbled across this video, sat here watching my khulis swim around. Its funny everywhere recommends sand, 300L (65 Gal) tank has a dedicated sandy area specifically for the kuhlis but they spend more time in the tetra active substrate on the opposite end of the tank.
Cute! Great vid!
Oh my god I just got some Kuhli loaches and I didn’t know why they were going up and down thanks for the information
Kuhli Loach's have the perfect length in my opinion and a great personality
These guys are so cute, they remind me of caterpillars.
Those are very cool fish my friend
Aaaaah a video about them! I love these. The only drawback is, i didn’t get to see them a lot :’(
I got two kuhli loach from a friend who could no longer keep them. I released them to my community tank and didnt see them for 2 years. Today I decided to redo my aquarium setup and I found 5! My water temperatures have always been on the cold side, so I was really surprised
