Just put the bomb on the side of the better item. If you mess it up you still get the one you'd get anyways. It's a half a heart gamble (and bombs if you're low of them)

@@user-ec8xg3yq3fno, for "bigger" change character's hitbox remains in his normal size, but when it becomes smaller, hitbox also reduce
Keyboard inputs on screen would help
there is nothing special about the inputs, you just press left/right (denepding on where you placed the bomb) at the right frame. It's all about the timing.
