Jeep sent me the newly refreshed 2023 Jeep Compass Red Edition. New turbo engine and transmission go a long ways to make this small crossover one of the best on the market.

The ergonomics, practicality, and intuitiveness of Jeeps (or FCA products in general) seems to be one of the main reasons why many people love those vehicles. They're just easy to live with...no learning curve needed....the team def spent lots of time in that area (thank god). Love me some physical redundant buttons and fast tech that's easy to use. I really wish other manufacturers could learn a thing or two in that dept from this/these brands. We are supposed to be one with the machine not the other way around
And the style of looks. FCA or whatever it’s called now. Is maybe not the most reliable but for someone that leases a vehicle 3 years. It’s perfect.
$43k? Wow, Jeep. That is *confidence*.
Imagine and then whole load of issues
That's not confidence, that's greed.
At least it's an Alfa Romeo engine. Good for leasing?
Yeah. 43k is a stretch. It should be 35 or 36k max.
@@baldheadlogic Curious. What year of $35k did you have in mind?
I thought a BMW 3 series for 50k was high, turned out it matched the inflation.
Fantastic review! I bought a 2020 Compass Sport brand new 2.5 years ago, and I love it! I also had a fix-a-flat kit, but shortly replaced it with a full spare tire with a matching wheel and tire brand; the cutout in the back is sufficient it. Glad that Jeep upgraded the motor in the new model.
43k is just if you want the Red edition which is pretty much a fully loaded one. As Kirk said, all you really need is the Sunroof and Alpine Speakers..of which you can add to the Latitude trim and be out the door for 34-35k not to mention all the incentives/rebates that Jeep has for their vehicles. Main thing if you're purchasing this vehicle is the standard Jeep 4x4, fun styling, intuitive layout, and new engine/trans combo because this pairing is much more reliable than the old setup
Stop drinking the Jeep look aid….35 or 43 is still way TOO MUCH for this unreliable tin can
@@davidxavier1396 Hey man, I’m being realistic as far as pricing goes (I never said anything about recommending this vehicle). Need to remember that other SUVs in its class are also in the 30k range so it’s not unheard of….unless you aren’t aware of the insane inflation of the segment in general. Plus the new engine has been proven to be decently reliable since it’s been used for several years in the wrangler...it’s way better in every aspect compared to the old lackluster Tigershark 2.4. I’m not saying you should buy this vehicle (I wouldn’t) but many people only see 43k and believe that’s the whole story. So I’m just trying to help clarify for those that care. Cheers
@Shady Vibes Context. People really hate that concept because it usually neuters their comment.
Like you did with David. If he wants to experience a real tin can he should open and close the doors of most Toyotas.
43k is nowhere near fully loaded. Fully loaded is into the 50s.
@@Maniac742 A top trim (High Altitutde 4x4) with every option selected is $43,615.....can't go higher
The size, the ground clearance, and the AWD: one of the best for SF under severe weather/climate.
This would be a nice rental car to get compared to a frumpy and random Nissan. P.S. you should become a sunglasses guy (polarized for max protection) in Florida or you’ll hurt your eyes and age worse. If what you don’t like about sunglasses is darkness look at an amber colored lens. They can make a cloudy day feel more vibrant.
Good review, looks like a nice ride for 2023. Picked up a '23 CX-5 PP for my wife in February and it's been flawless. One reason we got it is it's made in Japan.
The Compass is made in Mexico and Jeeps haven't been known for their reliability, so there's that. Saw one dealership advertise 15% off so there are deals to be had now.
Looks like the Compass is a little narrower than the CX-5.
I have the Red edition also and it is a fantastic car. The new engine is great.
I bought one about a month ago and I don’t regret it
Do you regret aftrr 9 months? I am looking to buy a used one
Im in the market for a new vehicle, and im leaning towards a Jeep Compass. The interior looks fantastic and not as cheap as some of the alternatives do.
I have the 23 Trailhawk model and love it. I traded in my 10 yo Mini Cooper and with summer sale incentives, walked out the door owing 28k. Nice!
I bought my 2022 Jeep Limited red addition about 5 months ago. I absolutely love it. ❤️ this was the first time I ever bought a brand new vehicle it only had 14miles on it when I purchased it. I paid full price. I will never forget I paid $44,633.96 I didn't want any payments. And i would do it all over again. And it's great for very tall men or women. My son is 6,7 and and is very comfortable no complaints. I love being part of the Jeep community. And enjoy finding my Easter eggs. I love the cooling seats for everyone❤ oh and the Jeep app on my phone Love it. I can look at anything and everything. It shows everything that's going on with your car. You can start your car lock your car to your phone. It gives you alerts when it's time to do your oil change Plus a lot more in that app. I just love my Jeep it was me for me. I love red and black my two favorite colors. This will be the last vehicle that I own in my life hopefully. And I would not trade it for the world I love it that much.❤❤❤ Jeep wave 👋
Can you remotely turn on car/climate control to defrost windscreen ? Surprised no AWD option here..must be certain markets only.
This is almost like Jeep's version of the Range Rover Evoque in terms of design, technology, features, & price
And reliability.
Exactly
It is in a weird niche. Smaller than a compact but more expensive. Nice but when a loaded Sportage Hybrid is thousands less it is hare to picture picking this being my choice.
The Trailhawk trim would be the trim I'd go with because you get a full-sized spare tire.
Digging the fanny pack dad reviews. I’m a stay at home dad with a forester wilderness.
Thanks mate. Forester wilderness is a peach
I have 2023 compass.. love it ❤❤
For 40 grand you can buy a Honda CR-V sport touring ,the Jeep seems over priced for what it is . Great review Kirk and family !
everythings overpriced these days I don't think a Honda crv should be $40k either
@@Carfan678 Have you seen Hondas inventory in the last 2 years? My dealer in Houston has 1 Civic and 3 CRVs on the lot. Everything is special order with a deposit. They cant tell you when it will be delivered or even if you will get what you ordered. Insane mark ups as well. All the CRVs have a cvt as well. No thanks.
@@mikeeast8322 insane imo top trim of vehicles in this class she be low to mid 30s at the MAX. Honda in particular is overpricing their vehicles these days. New Honda civic starts at 25k, Toyota Corolla $21k, Hyundai Elantra $20k, Nissan Sentra $20k, Kia Forte $19,600 etc. all of its competition undercuts it by $4-5k. In Kia’s world u can get a base k5 for $25k which is accord competition
Nice review, my wife just bought one of these, she didn’t get the leather seats however. And I saw that Life after death album art 😊
You can change the sound levels through the screen and crank it up
That price is crazy. So many better options for that price. CX-50, Kia Sportage, Tucson etc… main perk of this though is the 4wd. For that price though I’m buying a base Grand Cherokee
I owned a tuscon for 5 years and had it in the shop 12 different times. I may have got a lemon but I would never recommend the tuscon.
@@whytho5732what issues you had with tucson?
So, is this years Jeep Compass one that makes a top 3 of your purchase choice for this size and class of vehicle? My choice would be the Sport, Latitude or Trailhawk. I would still have to decide on my option mix to get the best value for the price I am willing to pay.
Great looking Compass
Has fca fixed the annoying heated cooled seat timer? In fca products I’ve driven whenever I turn on the heated or cooled seats, it automatically lowers the setting and then shuts off after a few minutes
Stellantis^
@@JDMSwervo2001 whatever 😂 fca stellantis it’s the same thing LOL
How would a 2022 Cherokee limited compare?
Just noticed that the windscreen wiper stays is a strange position?
Excellent
Great review although I'm not a Jeep fan and it's WAY TO EXPENSIVE. Glad that you are exploring different brands though keep up the good work
Thanks! Will do!
You guys are lucky, I thought you were super loud and kids were still sleeping 😂
I didn’t know that Jeep placed the 2.0t in the Compass. I thought they would’ve placed a Turbo 3 cylinder once they discontinued the 2.4.
I know it’s a detuned version from the Cherokee, Wrangler, and Alfa Romeo models, but I’m kinda shocked it’s a good motor.
Remember when the new 3.6 Pentastar was going to be a dud replacing the inline 4.0? Funny have people rag on the new thing and then it becomes dependable, solid, or legendary in a few years.
I'll never buy a Heep. I've owned 3 Dodges, last two was 18 years ago. Switched to Toyota and Honda, never going back.
Good for you. I personally do not waste my time watching or commenting on videos about things I'm not interested in or don't like. Life is a little easier that way
@@jdm1039 you want a hero 🍪?
@@mikej238 How about you? Or maybe a round of applause?
One can get a Subaru Outback w/ turbo, or almost up to a Tesla LR Model Y, after rebate, for $43,000. Been shopping at this exact price range and it would have been Model Y if not for ground clearance issues in the snow w/ our oddly steep and sharply angled driveway. Y is still an option w/ an aftermarket lift kit, for another $2k or so installed, but the house will also require electrical upgrades.. So looking realistically at $50k for the Model Y, versus $43k for the Outback or Compass. Over time though, the initial savings from going w/ gasoline vehicles will get eaten up by the costs of fuel and maintenance. If inflation gets out of hand, doubly so.
The car is for my elderly parents, so the auto braking safety tech in both the Subaru and Tesla are also a factor. The Jeep doesn't even enter the equation, all things considered..
Go with the outback they will love it
The Dodge Hornet will eat into the Jeep Compass sales soon.
I’m gonna buy a latitude trim for $27,400 from Jim Browne Jeep in Dade City FL. Almost 7k off MSRP
Did you buy it? How do you like it?
I thought product red was just for electronics? Well cars are basically touchscreens with a steering wheel and seats anyway.
Kirk be nice to see you review the Hornet over this disappointment . I also wonder why the kids are always sleeping in your videos? Hmm
WOW, over $40,000.00 for a vehicle that’s so small you have to get out of it to change your mind. I like the styling and the interior is finally being addressed but I don’t know if I would get one at that price.
Only way this makes sense is it you get it for 25% off. I'm already seeing them 17% off, there's tons of them on the lots.
That fanny pack is tough. Link??
People just like the rugged styling..not a jacked-up hatchback!!
Only 200hp/220tq...? For $43k?
Hardpass
CX-5 turbo has got much more power than this and it's only AWD
oh god, does it burn oil still a gallon every 400 miles. no joke
No, thankfully the 2.0T is very unproblematic. I do wish it had the same power output as the Cherokee and Wrangler. I have a ‘21 Cherokee Latitude Lux with the 2.0T and it just rolled past 50k miles. Literally has never burned any oil. It’s a very solid engine. I do find it interesting that the Compass engine has the same compression ratio, but has a lower output. Also, no more auxiliary battery. The 2.0T has a larger amp alternator. I did notice the engine bay is a bit cramped on this. I am curious if this 8 speed is a Chrysler design or outsourced by another supplier.
@@jeremystout412 I have the 2.0t in my jl 2022. I don't like the turbo lag, before 1000 mile streak in the engine was sooo good no lag. Since this is a new engine I doubt it has the issue anyway
i think the old engine was straight up a lemon, no one mentions how bad that thing burned oil. uber driver told me stories, warranty never covers it.
id rent one thats it. not a fan of front wheel drive say good things so jeep sends you more press cars
You get a lot more for your money in a Jeep the other competitors they do not
Alfa Romeo???
They are 10% off now
43k for such a small car??? nahhh
The magic about Compass for me has been that it is one of the few vehicles to pass km77's Moose Test brilliantly.
With the heavier engine in the front, I doubt its capability on that regard anymore.
Before: coarse. Future: possibly unbalanced.
$43k….I’m thinking more value from Bavaria, like an X1.
The smaller Fiat platform based Jeeps should be avoided at all costs and I think you mean Product Res not project red
How primitive, the engine hood stick😂
$30K maybe. $43 LOL
You’re not a sunglasses person? So you just stare into the sun when it’s in your face on the way home?! 😳😂
Anyone who owns one can share about reliability and maintenance?
Too early to tell. The biggest problem with the 17-22 Compass was the drivetrain. New drivetrain in 23
30k+ sure. 43k not with more reliable options available IMO
No way to FCA.
Most mechanics seem to think these are junk.
$43,000 and up! lol!
to much Fiat in and under the car for my taste.
40k time to go bmw 2 series idk
I wouldn't want one or buy one . The previous models are oil leader, electric nightmares with their Cristal transmissions.
They killed the Jeep grand Cherokee this is what they should have done to the G.C. I’m in The market for a Jeep grand Cherokee but I don’t like the new model. Might consider this but to small with no v8
imagine having to use a stick in order to keep your hood open
How about jeep fixes reliability issues first and then we worry about prop rods
Paul - If that's all you got try harder. Prop rods are extrodinarily common. Common sense not so much.
@@jdm1039 i know its not important but isnt jeep a premium brand? even my 2018 basic mini cooper has hood struts
@@PaulTC777 Depends on who you ask (premium brand)
@@jdm1039 the prices are premium
Hell nah, i rather go exotic for that money
A 2.0 turbo making 200hp is just plain embarrassing.
Save your eyes and get some sun glasses.
Just not worth the increased price, $35k is about it.
43k for that shit😂😂😂😂😂 no wonder they can't sell them
They don't make the red in 2024. Disappointed
Really?
Yeah nope. 43K. For a pos compass. One born every minute.
Jeep vehicles always needs HEADS VALVES they inexpectidely get hot and you're out of their. Plus they're super ugly.
2023 Jeep compost 😂
Overpriced junk
Better off with the Hornet . Better looking and cheaper
@@moeanthony9308nope ,they are way overpriced as well..
It's an over priced Fiat.
With high price's for spare's.
The Renegade is the epitome of a Fiat 500. There is nothing American about Jeep in the Renegade or Compass.
Not for me., I will keep my 4-runner for the same price, and it will start evey day, and last longer.
Wayy too much for this. This price is a joke
