I'm gay in high school in Asia. My gay experience was so terrible. A lot of people look down on me. They make fun of me. Nowadays everything is ok but picking up guys is very difficult.

Hey it's Maiah! We went to high school together and I came across this video and I have to tell you I had no idea that this happened :( I always felt like an outcast too because I really didn't deal with peoples drama and bullying of other kids cuz I realized life is so much more than high school! I'm so happy that you came through all the hate and made something awesome of yourself cuz you deserve it! 💕 you're a king 👑

So you might have graduated in the 90s. Not easy then, but was better than the 50 or 80s. Course it varies by where you live and lived with and who in school. I came out to family at 15.

In my high school there was no such thing as a GSA. So I made one for my senior project. Keep in mind I live in rural southwest Missouri. Lots of “straight pride” tshirts and nasty comments but in the end I helped a lot of people like me so it was worth it.

Yeah they weren't fake friends. Ppl used to say that shit to me too. But, I didn't change they did. I messed around with 4 of my guy friends before I came out. Every weekend we'd go to parties or whatever end up staying overnight, so slept in the same bed always ... not kidding... messed around. Only heavy stuff with one guy and after we started doing intense stuff I quit with my other buddies. Anyway, that's a whole other thing. But we were still friends just not the same with the 4 I messed around with and they were my best friends for sure. Even jumped in the back of my truck once at a bush party and wanted to crawl through the back window and beat on me. That's a long story though. Still friends with most.

The one thing that i can hope for my friends is that they stand up for what is right. New to your channel, kinda playing catch-up. I had created such a strong persona that when I came out I surprised everyone. My best friend was devastated. He was not mad that I was gay, he was mad that I had lied and created a fake front. He trusted me with secrets... soul-secrets.. and I was a fake. He was such a good friend that he still accepted me (1983:small town). He was the only one that did, yet our friendship was never the same. I look forward to a time when people can just be people and not worry about offending someone for just existing.

No lie man, I have so many great memories with my bestie but he was straight. His Dad didn't feel cool with how he was so attached to me. Everyone thought he was gay when it turns out I was the gay one. He so idolized me. I was the Senior with a car and he was the puppy dog Freshmen. Yeah he was adorbs. Not to bring down the mood but hiding the fact that I was gay in a small town initiated a major depressive situation...I got ditched but yes I eventually found my real friends.

Again, you are an awesome guy. Everyone has their own path to follow. I’m sorry you went through that depression and losing your buddies. It’s not about having real friends or fake friends. It’s about loss. That’s where the pain lies. I was lucky. I came out to my best friend in high school. He said it was okay. That kindness truly changed my life. My escapism was music! I would lose myself in the piano room! I’ve gotten through all my ups and downs through music!!! I truly love listening to your stories. I now know why there’s sadness in your eyes. I think all of us that are gay have a little sadness inside of us, because it seems we have to keep coming out.

My gay high school experience didn't go as good i was a junior and after i came out. I was basically bullied all through out high school i never had any friends after i came out and still don't have any friends to this day. At first i wasn't being true to my self i kept telling my self that i wasn't gay. Then i met this guy in 8th grade that i had a love connection with but after i new him. Better he turned out to be straight so freshmen year i started watching coming out story's on RUclips and i wanted to come out then but didn't. I still wish i had friends that stood with me but i didn't turn. Out that way and now i had got broke up with today so i have had a shit full day. Until after watching you're video just now you know how to put a smile back on someone's face. And i really think you are cute and i wished we could date but i don't know if i am you're type or not! I went to high school in late 1970s. You wouldn't dare come out then or be beat up. Was pretty introverted and even scared to try to have friends since they might find out. Didn't come out till my 40s and still not sure was a good idea. The younger gays don't want to be friends to older guys unless they rich which I'm not. The older guys I tried to be friends with all really end up finding out they wanted to be friends to hookup. My most successful time friend wise was storm chasing years in 1990s but was closeted then. Plan to go back to storm chasing next year but wondering is it better to go back in closet since gay friends so hard to find?

All too often those who come out get treated so differently. Obviously the fault is in the listeners. They do not have the inner strength (or have never been coached) to deal with their own inner fears and insecurities, especially when with less enlightened peers. It then becomes so easy to "defend" one's face by lashing out or ostracizing others. Why can't we all just know and accept ourselves and others without fear, with peace, strength, and the joy and beauty of what makes us all different from each other. Find your own inner strength and stand firm, all. Know that you are EXCELLENT by choice. So simple. More power to you, Chris Stanley. I am enjoying all of your amazing vids!

I never really had and still don’t have many friends (trust issues?) but i did make some new friends. My HS didn’t have a GSA they had a SDS, which is political but all the gay/bi kids ran it and they did the pride stuff. I graduated and never looked back. I talk to a handful of people from HS.
Then came college I was messy boots and that where I’ll end that.

No one else is sharing their sexual preferences early in the school year. Don't yell it out, there's time for that, if need be. I was not out with anyone until I left home at 18. First of all, some parents freak out. I took in a 16 year old once (let him live). His parents disowned him, he left the small town he was from, ended up in the state-capitol, homeless, and my boyfriend asked if he could live with us- of course, I allowed it (but you can't do that these days). Get to know your new school, and start by only telling good friends. Be self-supporting before you take risks.

F*ck this makes me so mad! Here in Hawai'i, it's really unusual for us gays to get homophobic hate like that. In Native Hawaiian culture, gays (aka "mahu", the Hawaiian word for "gay") are widely accepted...so back in the 1960s, when my mom was in high school, she said nobody bothered gays...same thing when I was in HS...and same goes for HS nowadays. I hope the world starts to catch up 'cause it breaks my heart to see y'all getting hate just for how we're born.

Honestly my parents rant about how fake and stupid it all is and it hurts. But someday I’m gonna be happy and successful. Just not rn when I’m a wreak and my grades are dying 😂🙂😊

Gawd I was lucky... even in small town western slope Colorado in the late 70's high school I was out and it was never a big deal except to my family... I hung out with my friends, from football players, cheerleaders to theater geeks.... I just ignored the haterz and lived my best life.... I was so stereotypically san francisco levi queen and I didn't even know it until years later. It certainly helped that I could beat the shit out of anyone.... but I never had to, they just knew.

You're pretty awesome, I like the same music you did, I didn't come out at the time when I was your age because I weighed out my options. I did the whole new school, fresh new start thing, I waited till college, I made tons of friends then. As soon as I came out I told my high school friends and they still loved me, they were very cool about it. Thanks for sharing, I will most likely make videos now because of you. :) You do make a difference.

I hated high school although I was never bullied for being gay because I was in the closet and not obviously gay at all. In fact I have had people not believe that I was gay many times and was also stopped at the door by bouncers at gay bars who told me "This is a gay bar so I can't let you in". I worked out every day also so if anyone ever fucked with me for any reason I got in their face and they always backed down and never bothered me again. I just wasn't happy in the environment but I did get good grades without ever doing my homework (except math because that teacher used to check our work). My happiest years were in my 20's.

i don't get discriminated for being gay here, at least around where i live, but i feel so invisible and lonely sometimes, whenever i get something exciting happening to me, the excitement would all disappear in a split second, i thought i needed a boyfriend but the problem is, i never really have the kind of energy it takes around people, i'm described as "weirdly-intimidating, confident, funny" by all my friends but i feel like the reason why i'm always so exhausted and feels drained out is because of people in general

I can relate about being teased and bulleyed in high school being called gay but was totally in denial to all my friends and my family. I only told this to my therapist and the small group therapist group of about 15 people and it was a great weight lifted off my shoulders once I found this group.

So my high school gay experience was basically this.
11-13 everyone was keeping on saying that I was gay but I kept ignoring them and kept on getting mad about it because I was closeted at the time and I didn’t want to become the fresh new toy that is being used as a verbal punchbag. Especially when this REALLY cute guy was like so homophobic.
Eventually I was brave enough to come out but I wanted to come out at the perfect time because me and that homophobic guy were friends before I came out and so I wanted to wait until he made another homophobic quote in public and then out of nowhere I come out saying “you got a problem with gay people then you got a problem with me” and when I did that everyone was shocked and it became the story of the entire year.
Then I came out to my friend group. My friend group said they “accepted” it and that they don’t care but little did I know that they were talking trash about me behind my back saying that I was hitting on all of them and that I wanted to spend the night with all of them. Which is not true because A) Having the night with people with horrific personalities is just…not happening on my watch and B) they weren’t even my type. Me and that homophobic friend became enemies. And eventually I fell in love with one of the guys in my group. I wanted to keep it hidden because otherwise it would have destroyed the entire friend group apart for endless time. When the guy found out he manipulated everyone saying that I was a attention seeker that doesn’t deserve help and that I should die. A few weeks after he did this he came into my DMs and started playing with my feelings and pretend that he felt the same but instead he was just trying to get one of my darkest secrets and make it worse. After that I had trust issues (I still have them) and I was angry with everyone I saw. I was in my room literally all the time and I barely spend any time with my family like I did before. The school understood the situation and didn’t do a thing about.
Moving on to my time after High School (which is now) I found myself a new friend group and I wasn’t afraid to show my sexuality to anyone. They were the first friend group I been to that I felt like I could be myself. And I now got relationship to manifest with this whole new guy. The way we look at each other and the way that he cares about people and everyone around them regardless if they are strangers or not and the fact that he is so selfless and charming and cute.
So basically all that drama about my high school experience of me coming out has turned me to the person I am today. And I believe that everything happens to bring us to who we really are and that when one door closes another always opens.
But yeah all of that was literally my high school gay experience and it’s that dramatic as it sounds and looks.

I didn’t come out in high school because I was so depressed. We moved from NE to CO when I was a junior in high school. I went to college and tried dating girls, but I knew boys was what I wanted in my life romantically. I graduated college and because a teacher. I feared I would be outed and lose my job. By the time I got tenured, I was out to many people, just not fellow faculty. I went to a Gay Educators’ Meeting and it looked like a faculty meeting of my very large high school. I was relieved to see so many gay teachers. Our school had 4500 students (9-12) with a very large faculty. One of the 3 school nurses came to me one day because she believed I was gay (no evidence, just her feminine hunches). Her intent was to out me and to have me fired. From that day forward I always called her “nurse nice” from “One Flew Over the Cookoo’s Nest”. A student in a wheelchair with significant needs needed an aide to help him all the time was going to have a week without his aide. He had requested that I help him during the week. Nurse Nice was horrified because if I was gay and helping him bathroom, I might take advantage of him. The nurse would also be absent that week for a conference. I agreed to help him and everything went smoothly. Upon her return, she checked with him and he was “unscathed.” She always told me she didn’t believe teachers should be gay. I became a high school counselor at an alternative school in the same district. I was hired because I was gay and we would have gay students in the school. Those years were the best of my career. I left that to supervise all alternative schools and all high school principals in the district. I loved being a counselor and a teacher. Supervising adults was more than I could handle. I retired early and still work with the GSA students/programs.

    Here's mine
Freshman year: closeted gay acting straight and was very homophobic
Sophomore year: I got tired of hiding in both school and my home, so I came out in school, and stayed "straight" at home. Every morning getting ready, I would dress myself "straight", pack what I wanted to wear to school, change at school, and I would also wear eyeliner too. When the final bell rang, I would change into my "straight" attire, and go home.
Junior year: I barely went to school, and by the time I wanted to go back, I couldn't because of the covid lockdown.
Senior year: on the computer. Didn't graduate because my power was cut off, and I was left in the dark for 4 months, LITERALLY.

I broke up over the phone once, too...sometimes there is no other way. Totally okay. You just shouldn't break up by texting someone. That's bad. Just have the decency to do it in the first place.
I even had the experience once, that I was seeing someone and he didn't have the decency to dump me. He just went on and saw somebody else. We never talked about it. That one really sucked. No High School experience, tho xD

I had a good Coming Out experience, but I experienced a speed bump too. My friend, (of 16 years of friendship), and his family, [with whom I attended holidays, 2 weddings (🙋🏻‍♂️ groomsman), and a funeral,] ditched me. So during Pride, I stood in front of their townhouse the whole time from start to finish. (Yep, they lived on the street Pride is held on.) They moved away. 🏳️‍🌈
