Or more like : This sort of preteen, that grew up with homophobic parents, actually accepting and noticing the community but didn't knew it about myself. Now, when I'm looking back I actually thought of Ryan and Kelsie as being homosexual :D I just never connected the facts :D (It's like a childrens TV-series here from Germany, where there are two best friends and even while I see one of them being in her straight relationship with her boyfriend but I actually shipped also the two girls ... but just never noticed it )
may i suggest my theory that Troy is also a very heavily queercoded character and that his soliloquy song Scream in the third film is his inner monologue of figuring out his bisexuality. in the song he sings about how confused he is and how he doesn’t know which team to pick - basketball or theatre. especially, with the ending of the film being that he’s going on the study both at college, i believe that he finally learns to except himself and realises that he doesn’t need to choose, he can be a part of both teams and be bi !!
@@zobozo5059 yeah I’m pretty sure that even if they started out liking each other it became that eventually. There’s just no way he’d be able to explain that away. I would have liked to see this whole thing acknowledged but of course scared director didn’t want to deal with the homophobic nature of Disney at the time.
I haven't watch this movie in ages but OMG! The underlines and subtitles... - Ryan's father straighteing his hat - Ryan topping... the bat with his hand - The I don't dance / swing that way - Dodging the ball - Eyes messages - clothes trading
even in the song, Chad says "there's just one little thing that stops me every time" and it cuts to the dugout and crowd, meaning he's afraid of losing his friends and status at school. Also in the song Ryan tells him to swing (in a defensive position) and Chad says "I'll show you how I swing" in an offensive position. And when Ryan is pitching, he does this thing called bocking, which is watching the runner behind you and trying to get them out while they're leading off. This implies that he's been watching Chad and his coming out journey to try to catch him slipping. And sadly, yes, the bat thing is a baseball thing. it decides who takes the field or plate first. Ryan won, meaning he accepted the challenge and chose the defense (which is an advantage so he knows his shit) And lastly, at one point, Chad uses his bat to gesture the strike zone, basically asking for something to hit. He's not confirming or denying his gayness because this could be seen as keeping his head in the game but oh my God he's gay. Sorry as a bi softball player, it's my fucking purpose to analyze this song. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't in more than one of my spotify playlists.

@@elfinvale EXACTLY OMF. Like, especially in Ryan’s case. He spends his days doing whatever Sharpay tells him too and it clearly frustrates him, so being dominant in another sense of his life would be something he’d totally be into
Literally there is no heterosexual reason for these two characters, who have never interacted up until this scene, to be playing baseball together, which is doubly weird as Ryan is a theatre kid and Chad plays basketball. And how the whole point of this song is Chad singing “I don’t dance” even though we literally see him dance multiple times throughout the series. Then in a later scene we see that they have switched clothes! Seriously I beg anyone to give me legit explanation other than they’re gay.
Other than the obvious "but he's dancing now" I always thought it was weird it was baseball as a kid since neither played it. But I just assumed it was a summer sport? Makes so much sense that it was because of the metaphor.
Idk if anyone noticed but chads hat was also crooked when they swapped clothes and Taylor straightened it, just like Ryan's dad! The hat metaphor part 2?
I thought Ryan was out at school, when I first watched the movies. When the second movie came out, I got that feeling even more so when he was interacting with his family. I had thought that Ryan's dad had known for years, to the point that they didn't even say anything about it, it just was. I mean he wasn't thrilled about it, but had accepted it. I mean, some of the lines when the family interacts with each other, gave me the sense that he had hoped to have an athletic masculine child to hangout with. Which is why I think he was so excited about Troy, because he would finally have a child to do those things with. He has to at least be out to at least his family, I mean he is so much more relaxed around his parents. Also what closeted teen gay was that comfortable in their own skin, if they weren't out to someone and had no support system.
The fact that they went with baseball for that song, and included asking how he's "swinging" like which way your sexuality swings in tHaT like come on.
Stop please Edit: if she actually liked Gabriella she wouldn't be mad about the fact she got the main role on the winter musical in the 1st movie or the 3rd one. When you like someone you have to support them no matter what, so her "feelings" are not honest because she wants all the attention for herself. It would be a toxic relationship 🙃
"So what, Troy and Gabriella kissed like once? Well Ryan and Chad consummated their marriage on a baseball field in broad daylight." I need that on a shirt. ALL of it

may i suggest my theory that Troy is also a very heavily queercoded character and that his soliloquy song Scream in the third film is his inner monologue of figuring out his bisexuality. in the song he sings about how confused he is and how he doesn’t know which team to pick - basketball or theatre. especially, with the ending of the film being that he’s going on the study both at college, i believe that he finally learns to except himself and realises that he doesn’t need to choose, he can be a part of both teams and be bi !!

chad's hat being crooked after they switch clothes....
even in the song, Chad says "there's just one little thing that stops me every time" and it cuts to the dugout and crowd, meaning he's afraid of losing his friends and status at school.

I NEVER NOTICED THIS BUT IT'S TRUE OH MY GOD
