I read the novel but can not figure out which scene he is referencing. Would you mind filling me in? Or are we just talking about the (SPOILER ALERT) death scene?
i went to watch chapter 2 in the cinema with my dad and when eddie died my dad legit gasped and said "oh no i thought he was gonna end up with the comedian" so like... no i'm not just projecting my own expectations on reddie ok the straights can see it too
I don't think that Henry's cousin meant a single word he said. I feel like he actually enjoyed being with Richie, but when he saw Henry he was afraid so he went off on Richie.
For sure, I’m writing a pretty bad reddie fanfic and Connor makes a guest appearance and i just threw in him and Richie sort of liking each other that summer because i could
It involves Bev and the boys sharing fluids but hey at least it's not blood. Seriously I wonder what drugs Steven King was on the day he wrote that about a bunch of preteens.
the fact that at 30:22 “be who you wanna be. be proud” plays over richie carving the fence, hinting that he’s possibly come to terms with his sexuality and feelings for eddie. ugh i’m so emotional
Just wanted to say that I always HATED when movies/stories like that (about a group of friends dealing with things) always put THE ONE FEMALE FRIEND to be the love interest, I mean, why friends can't just be friends???? Why the girl can't just enjoy time with her friends without everyone trying to date her??? Anyways, great vid
it’s annoying but honestly happens all the time in real life. maybe they never confess and you don’t notice but almost all of my female friends had guy friends who said they liked them back in school.
Because it’s an adaptation of a book from the 80’s set in the 50’s and groups of teenagers with boys and girls hanging out usually results in complicated crush/love triangles.
"In the present day, Eddie is like, a Stocks guy now... so, he sold his soul. And Richie became a famous white male comedian, so he probably never had a soul."
I remember in the weeks after seeing IT, as I was sweeping the theatre floors, watching the credits over and over again, I started getting caught up on the ending, and the thing that felt really _off_ about it. And it didn't take me long to zero in on it. Aside from the Losers who died, they all get some kind of happy ending, and more importantly, they all get _closure_ . All of them, except for Richie. Bev and Ben finally get together, which marks Bev finally leaving the cycle of abuse she's endured all her life, and clears up Ben's misattributed love note. Bill finally has an ending for his book and his movie, which is as metaphorical as it is literal. And Mike is _finally_ able to leave Derry. But Richie? Richie loses Eddie, he goes to the bridge to re-carve their initials; to dwell on the past that never was and the future that never will be. Then, we can only assume he goes back to his job, goes back to the way things were, with fresh and uncovered memories of what happened in Derry. Derry- which is just the same as he'd left it, only now he remembers what that means.
YES Richie deserved a better ending like in my opinon he lost his Best friend Stan and His Soulmate Eddie he lost the most and I think that he deserved better(Mike did too but at least he had a happy ending)
Yeah plus, Eddie got the shit beat out of him more than anyone else the whole movie, tbh he should’ve made it for that reason alone. And like, I know textually that this movie is firmly against homophobia, but it feels like It 2 kinda hates gay ppl.
I always saw conner (bowers cousin) as wanting to at least be richies friend, if not more, and only turning on him once he noticed his cousin was there. I genuinely think he was just afraid, knowing firsthand what his batshit cousin is capable of
I thought he was one of the guys of the gay couple of It chapter 2. The part where one was pushed off a bridge or something? Idk I didn't really pay attention.
I totally got the impression that the cousin was attracted to Richie but was terrified of his bully of a cousin, so he threw him under the bus instead of having his entire family possibly learn his secret. I also think that as much relief as he must have felt getting his cousin off his back, he also felt instant regret.
I answer all of their video titles that way even if I don't even really know the characters. There is always at least some gay subtext and if that isn't there we still have headcanons.
maybe it's just cus I'm gay myself, but IT Chapter 2 was by far the most depressing and soul crushing moviegoing experience I've had the homophobic attack at the start isn't what got me most - it was Richie never getting to admit how he felt and have a shot at his own happy ending like the other characters. They tried to make up for it with "oh he's gonna stop hiding who he is now" but idk...it just portrayed being LGBTQ in the most depressing light possible, no uplift. Cried about it on the drive back from the cinema.
Nør 5k1 Long story short: It was for three Supreme Court rulings all rolled into one decision: all three dealt with workers (one is a trans woman[who sadly died weeks before the ruling], the others are gay) being indiscriminately fired because of their sexual orientations and gender identity. The main question being asked is whether the LGBT community is protected by the Civil Rights act in workplace. The current administration, which is extremely homophobic, took the position of opposing a ruling favoring the employees. If the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the employers, then that would set lgbt rights decades behind. Thankfully that didn’t happen. This ruling went in favor of the employees, 6-3 where conservative Justices Neil Gorsuch and John Roberts (both ironically appointed by the president) joining the liberal justices. Basically meaning that all three cases did fall under such civil right laws and thus are considered protected. Another thing to mention is a indirect ripple effect with this decision since this also applies to housing and education. Sure the ruling hasn’t ended homophobia or discrimination, but it is still a massive victory for the lgbt community. I’d argue that it’s bigger than gay marriage. You wouldn’t believe how nerve-wrecking waiting for this decision for a year to actually be passed down.
I love to laugh at people using the "looking at bev" scene as some sort of proof they must be straight cause,, both of them are giving the Gayest Vibes richie looks like his eyes are glazed over he's just staring into the middle distance and eddie looks highkey disturbed and uncomfortable (probably only because they were kids told to look in a direction and imagine a pretty girl there, but still)
@@happydaikon5589 I never thought of Eddie having a crush on Beverly and Greta, I mean like a REAL crush. It always struck me as the kind of crush where it’s like “yeah I’m a straight boy and straight boys like girls like this so I should have a crush on them” and not genuine romantic attraction. Richie I believe as somewhat bi-coded in the book, but Eddie always seemed to be gay but in denial. In his letter to his future self he also talked about marrying a hot actress or something, which feels uncharacteristic for Eddie and something an in-denial gay boy would say to reassure himself of his sexuality. Also explained why it seems like he did not care at all for Myra, at least romantically. Idk though.
That’s how I always saw it- but in the book, Eddie also ... uh, _enjoyed_ his time with Beverly in the sewers, so... Could have just been preteen confusion?
In the 90s miniseries eddie came off super gay, like I think he said he was a virgin still because he couldnt move on from what happened subconsciously.
Richie's dad found a magazine full of half (?) Naked men under his bed. Penny wise told Richie not to touch the other boys or everyone would know "his secret" Just sayin'… Also if Eddie was a girl no one would question reddie 🙄
My mom is in her 50s and was totally shocked by the R+E scene confirming that Richie is gay. She thought it came out of nowhere when I was like “it was so obvious!!”
Yeah I saw it with my brother when it came out and when we left he still didn’t know what richie’s secret was. They made it way too subtle because they didn’t want to upset the homophobes while still getting money from the gays lmao
Ok but we ain’t gonna talk about Henry’s internalized homophobia? I mean there is literally a scene between him and Patrick where Patrick offers...yeah...and he accepts it to a degree- He also felt the need to spread a rumor around that Bev and him slept together which is also a sign of Internalized Homophobia. What’s weirder is that it was so blatant in the book and they never addressed his storyline once in the movies.
I noticed a slightly "predatory/knowing" look from Patrick to Ritchie in the first film and thought it was weird. Later my husband told me about that part of the book you're talking about and it clicked.

i always kinda thought the way he acted around her was kinda the same reason he married myra, she was a bully and stepped all over him just like his mom and just like how myra would in the future but idk
The funny thing is that the gay victim is played by Xavier Dolan, a Canadian gay movie director and he was the one who actually made his character to try to fight back and being defiant instead of being very afraid like in the book. I mean, the exaggerated mannerism can be tiring to some, but isn't shoving what bullies don't like down their throat a common tactic to fight back like Miley's "People said to cover it so I decided not to" pic she posted? Because while he was kind of flamboyant Adrian was also quite "normal" in front of his boyfriend and that girl with birthmark on her face. The truly ironic one is that young Henry Bowers was also played by a gay actor.
@@annabelcrescibene4257 Gatsby was gay too, sometimes you repress your intense love for men by chasing the ideal of the first nice girl you dated and you make yourself miserable w a cocktail of isolation and internalized homophobia, and that's valid (this is 0.0001% of my thesis essay on the gay subtext of the great gatsby)
@@annabelcrescibene4257 Its the period-typical homophobia that forces gay men and women to pursue the opposite gender to avoid being outed/attacked/killed or makes them feel as though they are some sort of monster or mistake, and in Gatsby's case, the inability to move on from the past. Also Gatsby was probably bi tbh
Don't forget it's also in the book that Eddie died in Richie's arms and Richie had to be forcibly dragged out without Eddie's body. I also found it odd that Richie couldn't keep a relationship with a woman and Eddie only married a woman because she WAS his mother.
Listen. I like this video. But its kind of a big deal that Richie, in the movie, is /explicitly/ gay. Not implied bisexual. He's described as gay in interviews outside of the film, and his memorial card inside the second film calls him "homosexual". Yes, we need bi representation, but Richie is gay. Why take the canon sexuality away from an actually gay character?
THANKS FOR THAT!!Richie is gay in the movie in my opinion but in the book it never really gave any sexuality for him except for....HE IS SUPER GAY FOR EDDIE KASPBRAK!!Thats all thanks again for this comment I Literally look eveywhere for Reddie content xD
ive always headcanoned him as bi from when i read the books and him being bi has always been rlly important to me tbh, n the thing abt the movie is that it was actually hella vague. ppl can interpret him as bi OR gay, it's not "erasure" to do so for a character that wasn't even originally intended to be anything other than straight by the author.
Its kind of difficult because in the books Richie seems very bi but in the movie it seems important that he's gay rather then bi, and for Eddie he seems like he might be bi in the movie but in the book it feels important to his character that he's gay and does not feel any attraction towards women
I think they should of had a scene at the end where Richie is writing his own material for his stand up and you can see a little pride flag in a cup thats holding pens...like Captain Holt in Brooklyn 99 has
honestly i think theyre adorable together. not in a creepy way (looking at you tumblr) but like in the same way kindergarten teachers sometimes ship the kids theyre teaching together. its wholesome
My favorite detail in the movie that my friend pointed out on my first time watching, is that when they make the blood pact an everyone is holding hands, Eddie is holding hands with Richie, and due to Eddie’s cast, the words between them are lover. Eddie and Richie holding hands, with lover scribbled all over his arm. This might’ve been super obvious and I’m dumb, but whatever lol
Just gonna let you know that Stephen King wrote the hate crime scene in IT after one was commit in his childhood hometown and that it wasn't just a cash grab okay great thanks good video
@@tomemeornottomeme1864 To be fair, to anybody that doesn’t know this fact, the hate crime scene can be... rough. When I watched the movie for the first time I actually almost cried. As soon as the gays were introduced I was so happy, but then immediately turned to my parents and went ‘they’re going to get killed off though. Just wait.’ And when it happened, it was so jarring despite my prediction that I almost cried then and there. I guess to me it was sorta a hollow feeling. Like yes, it’s a horror movie and people are going to die. But to have your first gay characters shown die immediately, and then one of your last gay characters die in the end, and the other one left unhappy, it just... made me sad lol. Aka what I’m saying is that I was pretty bitter as well. It just gets tiring I guess to see people like you die or not end up happy, even when all the other characters get their happy endings. It’s makes you cynical. At least that’s what it does to me. But yeah, he was pretty bitter in the video lol. I thought it was funny, and I was thankful I wasn’t the only one feeling bitter about the movie.
They included the gay hate crime scene cause it's in the book. I kinda wish he would've focused more on the book, rather than just reading a few quotes. That book has some meaty subtext.

I didn’t realize that Richie was in love with Eddie until they first showed him carving their initials. I feel oblivious asf
Me too hahaha. I mean, I understood he was not straight, but I didn't understand that he had a crush on Eddie (till the end).
I feel at ease in the scene when Richie says “we’re not afraid of spiders” and so Eddie takes off the cap real quick.

I always saw conner (bowers cousin) as wanting to at least be richies friend, if not more, and only turning on him once he noticed his cousin was there. I genuinely think he was just afraid, knowing firsthand what his batshit cousin is capable of

nlcn fear can do that to a person. I’m sure adult him would look back at that incident and regret it.
I totally got the impression that the cousin was attracted to Richie but was terrified of his bully of a cousin, so he threw him under the bus instead of having his entire family possibly learn his secret. I also think that as much relief as he must have felt getting his cousin off his back, he also felt instant regret.
this should just be a two second video that just says yes
The opening scene in Chapter 2 is also based on true events that happened in King's hometown in the 80s, it's not just a 'scene' in a film or book.

maybe it's just cus I'm gay myself, but IT Chapter 2 was by far the most depressing and soul crushing moviegoing experience I've had
the homophobic attack at the start isn't what got me most - it was Richie never getting to admit how he felt and have a shot at his own happy ending like the other characters. Nør 5k1 new supreme court decision in the us
Don’t worry your landlord can still kick you out and businesses can still deny you because of your gender and sexual orientation....sigh it’s sad
LNL
for what?

Idk though.

Ok but we ain’t gonna talk about Henry’s internalized homophobia? What’s weirder is that it was so blatant in the book and they never addressed his storyline once in the movies.

"The straight people get to kiss"

I mean... I think that Alex though he was bi bc he stared at Bev in that one scene?

I think he was talking about eddie been Bi, not Richie
ive always headcanoned him as bi from when i read the books and him being bi has always been rlly important to me tbh, n the thing abt the movie is that it was actually hella vague. ppl can interpret him as bi OR gay, it's not "erasure" to do so for a character that wasn't even originally intended to be anything other than straight by the author.
Its kind of difficult because in the books Richie seems very bi but in the movie it seems important that he's gay rather then bi, and for Eddie he seems like he might be bi in the movie but in the book it feels important to his character that he's gay and does not feel any attraction towards women

To be fair, to anybody that doesn’t know this fact, the hate crime scene can be...
