Hey John, some combat tips: the absolute BEST part about Ludwig's is the follow up R2. If you fully charge the R2 thrust you can follow up with a huge overhead swing that will knock most enemies flat on their ass, and to those it can't, it does an ENORMOUS amount of 'stagger' damage. Also, for any weapon that has a two-handed 'transformed' mode - such as Ludwig's, the hammer and the axe - your L2, normally your gunshot, does a different, heavier combo sequence. It's often a very high-reaching combo good for hitting really tall enemies' heads. :>
Blood Rapture is actually a very useful Caryll Rune, and is, in my opinion, one of the best in the entire game. While you're correct that visceral attacks do heal you, they only recover HP that you've lost and can recover with retaliation attacks, so you won't recover any HP that you can't already get back with retaliating. Blood Rapture, however, heals you regardless of this. If you successfully perform a visceral attack, and are currently missing 200 HP, this rune will instantly heal that amount. So you can bait enemies into attacking, parry them, and then visceral attack them. This will not only heal yourself for any HP you may have lost, but will also conserve your blood vials, and instantly kill the majority of enemies you use this attack on, as they do huge amounts of damage. As a "Souls" series fan I'm really glad you gave Bloodborne a chance and I'm definitely enjoying every bit of it. Now, let me tell you: your slow and methodical approach and backtracking for shinies is NOT boring! On the contrary, it's a real pleasure to see such clever play. So... thank you for doing this playthrough the way it is. Looking forward for more of this quality content!
You lucky chap, they Shadows didn't even try the Giant Snake summon on you! I don't remember how often Huey, Dewey and Louie got me, but it was a LOT. Keep up the good work!
I started following Johns videos In 2011 when he would play Amnesia: The dark descent. Not once have I found a reason to unfollow. keep up the great content brother.
The new enemy you found near the beginning appears because of your insight, high insight has its perks but can also spawn new enemies and give existing enemies new, more deadly attacks
Very nice. Not only did you manage to navigate through one of the more confusing areas of the game you knocked the boss out of its final phase and beat it clean. Also pay a visit to that NPC who gave you the tonsil stone again, there's a cave near him that will eventually give you a new area. Now's a great time to go there.
Definitely, dunno if he'll ever see this, but if you go back to the building at the midpoint of the forbidden woods John there's a cannon weapon you missed. If you don't care, that's fine too its your playthrough, you know what you want to do.
I never liked watching any Dark Souls or Bloodborne from any RUclipsr. But I can actually never wait until there's another Part. So keep it up. I really enjoy watching it. :D
Good on you for figuring not to send that npc to the chapel. If you do, the npcs there start dying one by one and eventually you figure out it’s this dude and he’s actually a beast. You can fight him if you attack him at any time, he’s something like a mini boss
Dude, Shadows of Yharnam are some of the hardest bosses for some people, you're doing a great job! As always, loving the playthrough. Cant wait for more! :D
I don't care at all which weapon you're using, as long as you're having fun with it. Kudos for noticing the bodies about the guy asking for a safe place, that was kinda a red flag :P
Hey John! Quick fun fact! Snakes, when they reproduce, bunch up in piles and slither all over a single female, trying to impregnate her. That`s exactly what all those bunches of snakes are doing in the forest! TMYK
Little weapon tips here: Some weapons have a follow-up attack to their charged heavy, like Ludwig's sword. So just press heavy again after a fully charged jab and you'll do a heavy slam. Also, not sure if you already know this but, when you transform a weapon into a two-handed weapon like the axe or ludwig's sword, pressing the gun button lets you do different attacks. Also, tapping forward and the heavy attack at the same time will let you do a sort of leaping attack. You probably wont use it alot but it has it's uses.
Hey John, Awesome part 8, NOW UPLOAD PT.9! Honestly epic job with the shadows! Just shows all these games require is a measured approach, and don’t engage PANIC ROLL mode.
Loving these videos John! Glad you like the Ludwigs, it seems to match your play style anyways. Thanks for actually going around and checking a lot of things.. it’s cool to see you caring and having fun.
@@frostyyy3762 you are correct, he just killed them in the right order, that guy who cast fireballs has the lowest HP so its best to save him for last, was wanting to seeing his reaction to the summoning though 😔. it Was a well executed boss fight by john so can't complain 😂
Not sure if anyones mentioned it or if you've ever done but you can do a jumping attack if you press forward and heavy attack (R2) at the same time - it's a really good way to close the distance on enemies without worrying that they'll hit you before your weapons wind up animation. It also usually does decent damage and heavy weapons like Ludwigs greatsword will usually slap smaller enemies into the floor.
L2 on 2 handed weapons to use extra move set. Also puncture is good against alien blobbies. Last thing: upgrading strength dexterity etc. has diminishing returns after a certain level (like 40 or something like that)
Dude, the Shadows are considered by some to be one of the hardest bosses 😂 you fuckin killed it. Forbidden Woods gave me so much trouble. I died more there than anywhere. With the exception of a future destination that I won’t mention, but I’m currently having a not great time 😔
Really? I solo'd them first try. Just kept the big headstone between as many of them as I could and tried to wear them all down evenly expecting bad shit to happen if/when I killed them. Had some giant snakes show up but got out the way. Wasn't too bad! Bloody Crow of Cainhurst was way more of a headache, or those two hunters on the way down from the Grand Cathedral.

I've been thinking it the whole time watching John play, but watching him absolutely body the Shadows of Yharnam (a boss that gave me my first gray hairs) really cemented it. He's fucking killing it at this game.
Combat tip: double handed weapons (e.g. transformed hunters axe and holy blade) have an L2 attack as well since you don't have a gun. Combat tip 2: the holy blade actually has a follow up after charges up r2. If you press r2 again you get a really powerful slamming attack that will usually combo.

You're having a blast??? Music to my ears.
Very nice. Not only did you manage to navigate through one of the more confusing areas of the game you knocked the boss out of its final phase and beat it clean.
Also pay a visit to that NPC who gave you the tonsil stone again, there's a cave near him that will eventually give you a new area. Now's a great time to go there.
Thank god John didn't have to deal with the giant snakes at phase 3. But it's also a shame he missed the cannon firearm
Definitely, dunno if he'll ever see this, but if you go back to the building at the midpoint of the forbidden woods John there's a cannon weapon you missed. If you don't care, that's fine too its your playthrough, you know what you want to do.
The blue guys are cute I feel bad every time they die :(
they remind me of , like, clichee Aliens ^^ but in a fun way
I like how they run toward you like a toddler that wants a hug.
Iosefka is a terrible baby sitter
One of the best things about Bloodborne is how you can kill NPCs for stuff... Especially suspicious ones surrounded by three dead bodies. 😂
Lmao, love this comment.
I am legit impressed at how well he's doing for a first time. Also gonna be fun when he gets to seeing the real crazy stuff from high insight
"I hope there aren't too many more snakes" --John, in the forest that's absolutely filled with snakes
Dude, Shadows of Yharnam are some of the hardest bosses for some people, you're doing a great job! As always, loving the playthrough. Cant wait for more! :D
I don't care at all which weapon you're using, as long as you're having fun with it. Kudos for noticing the bodies about the guy asking for a safe place, that was kinda a red flag :P
honestly Bloodborne is one of the few games where every weapon is viable, its fun to change things up from time to time.
When you're using a weapon that uses both your hands (like the Hunter axe), since you can't use L2 for your gun, you get unique attacks with L2.
Hey John! Quick fun fact! Snakes, when they reproduce, bunch up in piles and slither all over a single female, trying to impregnate her. That`s exactly what all those bunches of snakes are doing in the forest! TMYK
I audibly laughed when he said, "I hope there arent too many more snakes"
I can't believe you wouldn't tell that poor guy where safety was. There are cannibals out there John.
The higher your insight, the more susceptible you are to frenzy, and the more rapidly your beast state will drain away.
Little weapon tips here:
Some weapons have a follow-up attack to their charged heavy, like Ludwig's sword.
I love all your videos, but there is just something about this series. I'm so glad you're doing this. Thank you so much
Wow he cheesed the shadows of yarhnam without going into the third phase.
I just barely survived the third phase XD
He got really lucky they didn't summon the giant snake
or he just you know, won fair and square? Didn't see any 'cheese'.
@@frostyyy3762 you are correct, he just killed them in the right order, that guy who cast fireballs has the lowest HP so its best to save him for last, was wanting to seeing his reaction to the summoning though 😔.
it Was a well executed boss fight by john so can't complain 😂
@@No.One.30 Exactly, people love to discredit good gameplay as soon as they have the chance lmaoo
I just honestly enjoy the little moments of this series - despite me being terrified and wanting to play this myself - I always enjoy John.
L2 on 2 handed weapons to use extra move set. Also puncture is good against alien blobbies. Last thing: upgrading strength dexterity etc. has diminishing returns after a certain level (like 40 or something like that)
Sure they start to softcap at 25 in BB
John reminded me to finish the DLC, thanks John! (Those big hippo things down the well in fishing hamlet have killed me more than most bosses...)
3:40
*Shows up to party
JW-"Oh hell no! One of us is gonna have to change...and it aint me!"
_"I'm full of quotes today, from movies that I've seen..."_
^ I'm not sure why this is funny taken out of context, but I've amused myself doing it anyway. Thank you John :3
"I can't get over how cool I look" what I constantly think when playing bloodborne honestly
8:35 John's smarter than me bc I'd be like "oh a hungry man :( here you go this is the address of the soup kitchen:)"
you're doing great and improved in each video. fun fact for John, you actually can kill the NPC who was eating the corpse. you did the right thing not giving the information to him about Oedon Chapel
I'm loving this playthrough, I'm glad John's having fun.
The snakes in the forest are like the crows. There’s a lot of them.
The visceral attack on the pigs just being ripping out their ass, just... wow lmao
I've been thinking it the whole time watching John play, but watching him absolutely body the Shadows of Yharnam (a boss that gave me my first gray hairs) really cemented it. He's fucking killing it at this game.
Seeing you enjoy a video game like this is a lot of fun to watch, I look forward to these videos a lot! Can't wait for the next one!
John calling us "Your Highness" is comical
Haha, yeees ^^
Combat tip: double handed weapons (e.g. transformed hunters axe and holy blade) have an L2 attack as well since you don't have a gun.
Combat tip 2: the holy blade actually has a follow up after charges up r2. If you press r2 again you get a really powerful slamming attack that will usually combo.
This playthrough made me get the game myself after years of avoiding it due to intimidation. I’m so glad I started playing because it’s truly a special game
Loving this! I've known about Bloodborne and have loved watching people play it ever since seeing a friend play it a few years ago, and your playthrough inspired me to finally pick up the game and give it a try myself!
Just don't get discouraged! It's not as easy as John makes it look.
so glad for the "I can't believe you've done this" for a moment I thought you wouldn't and would leave me yearning
Glad John didn't fall for the trap from the cannibal. John you just saved people from the chapel
This has been my favorite series of yours, John! You're doing great at the game and it's genuinely so fun to watch your progress.
Glad you got Ludwig’s Holy Blade to try out! It’s definitely one of my favorite weapons in the game.
"You know theres a boss here there might even be two."
-Me in the back smiling- "Might even be three....never know. :)"
The Shadow of Yharnam was so hard for me I considered quitting, so I’m very happy to see John’s victory over them!
