Hey Ashley. :) The best thing we've ever done for well being re: managing our comments has been to use the comment filter feature to auto-hold comments with certain terms like stupid, waste of time, etc. We've also considered adding 'should' to that filter -- rarely is the term should ever used in a positive non-critical way!! The other great benefit is the block user feature. Junk comments get deleted, and junk users get blocked. We liken it to taking out the trash. :)
Nice idea about the adding “should” to the filter. 9 times of 10 it’s some entitled comment or unsolicited bad idea or both.

I have actually never commented on any video before but I just had to this one time so forgive its lengthiness (wanted to make it count 😁.) My husband and I have been watching your videos for over a year and love your channel. We look forward to it every week and here's why (hoping this will brighten your day)... 1) you are a real family, all your content comes from a place of reality - the true definition of reality TV unlike many channels that produce outrageous content just to get views, we love your genuineness. 2) Doug, you are just a nice, decent human being... I love the respect you show Ashley and your children. Not once have you ever belittled Ashley, not once have you shown irritation with your kids. 3) We love that even as an adult, Ashley can still be excited about the little things that matter - we loved watching her with the trampoline and the effort she put into cleaning the pond in her kayak 4) and lastly (well there are several more but will stop at #4) Your perseverance and calmness help us forget our own hectic lives. You all never back down from the challenge, you stride along when it's difficult and even though we know you must be frustrated, you remain calm. All of this make your channel a very peaceful, soothing respite for me and my husband so thank you, thank you.

Doug and Ashley, ignore the cruel remarks. Carry on with your lives. Don’t let them get to you. Doug is a master craftsman just as good as anyone in the trades. She's finally in a place where she's happy and you want to share your experience just to have nay sayers who are jealous and miserable in their own lives that they have to tear others down. I've watched you rebuild your last two homes. My wife and I have often said that you do awesome work and that who ever gets your property's don't have to worry about getting a quality home. Great workmanship. Don't let the bad comments spoil the good ones. Enjoy your remodeling and we will too.

Doug & Ashley, I have quietly watched you for years and have completely enjoyed you, your children, and the journey you share. I have learned from you and am always intrigued with your creativity. I appreciate your kind and gentle ways with each other, and with us; you set a standard and example all viewers could learn from. There really are a lot of very miserable, rude, ugly, and hateful people in this world. Please don’t let them stop you from doing what you are doing or from sharing it with us!
Anyone leaving perverse, vile, hateful comments has got to be mentally ill. Don't even entertain them, Ashley. Delete the comments & block the offender. Perfectly justified.
As a fellow RUclips creator, I have learned how to deal with the trolls on my channel. Ignore them. Don't respond to them. Don't mention them. Don't give them the time of day. They like ANY attention that they can get.
Tighten up your comment filters. Focus on those keywords that trolls use. Their comments will go to 'Hold For Review'. Your viewers will not even see them. Then, when you review the comments hit that 'Hide User From Channel' button. The troll and all of their comments will be gone forever. You don't need them. Show them no mercy, no tolerance.
I had one guy that was persistent. He kept coming back with a new identity. He just kept getting banned! 🙂 Nobody except me ever saw any of his comments. He put a lot of effort into typing long negative comments and changing identity for nothing.

I watch this channel because I learn ALOT. I am a woman… with a completely disabled husband and a falling apart house. I also have drainage issues and have been told by the experts to bring in sandy loam. I’m close to you in south Mississippi. I live near the gulf. I’m sorry people are ugly. I hope there is more of us that loves watching you and your family and can learn from you. I bought a air Jack because I saw yours and didn’t even know they make them. I learn a lot from you guys! I love your attitude about life. ♥️♥️

Ashley, the fools who say hurtful things about what you guys are doing do not deserve to be a part of your day, block them and forget them. Helpful tips, even criticism in that vain of thought can help. The title of your channel is DIY Different, big hint to the haters out there. Would I buy property in Florida, or have what looks like a swamp next to my home, no but that is me. You guys worked on the home in MI, got a lot of tips from how you did the projects, and even now how you are dealing with your home in Florida. At least you have shown when things go wrong, how you all fixed them or overcame the problems, that is honesty. Keep it up.
I've been subscribed to your channel since you were Ministeading! My husband and I are retired. We built a little house on our property (missionary furlough house) all by ourselves about 20 years ago so we love to watch your building and remodeling projects. My hubby started watching your videos (over my shoulder!) a couple of years ago and now we can't wait for new videos to show up and we watch them together. WE LOVE YOUR CHANNEL! We've watched you long enough to know that you put a lot of thought and prep into everything you do. Nobody's perfect and we all do things we wish we'd done differently - that's life! Don't let the negative comments get you down. Keep doing what you're doing. We love you and almost think of you as part of our extended family!!!! You're probably close in age to some of our grandchildren! Praying for you and your precious family.

I am not one to comment much, but after hearing about all the insults you're getting, I can't just stay silent. I feel you need to hear what you've done for me.
I am a single woman in my 50's and just recently decided to do some upgrades to my house. I want you to know, that because of your channel(I've been watching since you updated your small trailer in Indiana), I was able to do 98% of all the demolition in my house. Saving me, no telling how much money! Not only that, but was also able to understand enough about the new plumbing to make better decisions as it was being put in by my plumber. Your channel gave me the confidence to tear down old walls, remove ceramic floor tile, scrape ceilings and so much more. I tore out the toilets, bathtub, showers and sink while redoing bathrooms. I can't thank you enough for all the information on your channel. It continues to give me the confidence I need to tackle jobs I would have been too scared to even try before.

I try not to tell someone they're doing something wrong without also bringing a solution and providing anecdotes from my own experience. I've been the recipient of enough criticism to know that being told "you're doing it wrong" in isolation is completely unactionable. As you said, it's just upsetting. I do greatly enjoy seeing your journey. It's incredible what you guys have accomplished over the years.

I’m the son of a construction worker, and am also by profession a construction worker and heavy equipment operator. Also a Florida native. And I can say you have done nothing in your remodeling of your house that is wrong or “stupid” maybe you didn’t do it the way I would have but it’s not my house it’s yours. And that sand is the typical fill dirt here where we live. However if in the future you have problems with wash outs, which happens sometimes down here nothing you can control. Get a few loads of top soil and blend it into the first inch or two of dirt. It will help grass grow quickly and hold the soil in place. That’s the only advice I could give you. I worked at Lowes for 20 years and I can tell you that n dealing with contractors and DIYers for 2 decades that every single one has a different opinion on how things should be done. The point is there are many many ways to do things. It all boils down to this… ITS YOUR HOUSE AND YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT. Ashley and Doug you are both great hardworking people and I love your channel

I noticed those comments too and its horrible how rude people can be! Please don't take them to heart, those people who leave mean or rude comments are just looking for ways to make you feel don't and write what they think will hurt you! But it has nothing to do with you guys, it says way more about them and how miserable their lives are. I belive personally you are doing so good on RUclips that you have enough followers for haters to find you and vent their bad behaviors on someone else. Maybe some people are just jealous of your successes and your hard work, your fantastic family and your beautiful homes! We had "sand" delivered for our yard in Houston to lighten the clay soil. It worked beautifully. St. Augustine grass grew well. I'm sure your property is going to be wonderful!

I have enjoyed, so much, watching the projects that you’ve shared with us. I really appreciate your attention to quality and craftsmanship. It’s very interesting and intriguing, to me, to watch how you approach your challenges. You don’t always go the way I would, but that’s the most interesting part. Though you’re young and openly ‘different’, I very much enjoy that. It’s a great perspective for me to watch. Thank you for sharing a part of your lives. Be encouraged and live your life. Me, too! I've been watching from the beginning, but I rarely comment because I watch on my TV and it's too hard. So I logged in on my phone to say "I LOVE YOU GUYS!" And I love seeing tge kids play and explore in addition to the house stuff. I wish y'all were our friends in real life! We built 2 of our own homes, homeschooled our kids and vacation every year in Florida. For every troll comment, there are 9 people like me that love you guys and are just silent. Unfortunately, Doug and Ashley, this 70 yr. Old sees this rude aggression as the way the U.S.population is going. It is getting worse and worse. Intolerance is rampant, and i’m afraid the old adage “Do unto others” has gone by the wayside. It really bothers me a lot that it only seems to be getting worse with time. I know nothing about dirt and modifying your land, but at the end of the day it’s your time, effort and money. If it fails you bare the burden. If it is a success you reap the rewards. People should just be quiet and enjoy the ride. I watch your channel because I want to see you genuinely succeed. I can’t wait to see a restored house and property that will provide for your family. I have no doubt you will get it there. At the end of the day I will have been entertained and most likely learned something. I rarely comment, but I like to read the comments. And sometimes I get so irritated with rude comments, that I don't read the comments for the next few videos. I'm just an old lady that has followed you since the early days of the red and white mobile home. But I sure feel like mama bear when you get mean comments . Ashley, you are a really sweet, strong, and talented wife and mother. Anyone who has followed you and Doug for a while know that you research every project, and definitely DO know what you are doing. Your channel WILL keep growing, because you and Doug are not cookie cutter DIY folks. Plus, you are just GOOD PEOPLE.

To quote George Bernard Shaw - “Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it.” As many others have stated, the trolls are getting a lift from your reaction. It feeds their fragile sense of superiority. With that being said, the vast majority of your subscribers are supportive. That's a testament to you.

As I have followed your channel for a couple of years I have been totally amazed at the level of skill and creativity you bring to your projects. Your editing and narration tell your story well and I find it entertaining and inspiring. I suspect that rude comments come from maladjusted people who are projecting there own ego and fears of incompetence. Sending positive thoughts your way. Keep up the good work. As Floridians, yes, our soil is very sandy. We added top soil , rich for gardening and had tomatoes, potatoes last year. Keep up the good work and ignore those who speak negativity. Ashley, you do a great job of putting your vlogs together. Block those who think they know better than you. And yes I agree, many vlogers in RUclips land have the same issues. I've noticed a bunch of comments from people who are claiming you have a sink hole on your property. I've been putting in yards and lawns for years and what I can tell you is that you have no sink hole what you have is basically a swamp on the side of your property but you're doing the right thing by raising your yard up with the fill that you're using. Just keep adding to it and raising it up and eventually you'll get there. It's never easy but it will work. Florida is brutal as far as land goes there's so much swamp and wetlands but you can overcome that and I know you will. Ignore the sinkhole brigade they're crazy and they watch too much TV. Just keep pushing forward. By the way I miss metal Mondays and I know you're busy but down in Florida there's some crazy history in the ground all over the place.

My mom lived in Florida just south Gainesville on 10 acres. The sand is exactly what was on her property. She did grow grass, she had trees and flowers. I think people who have never been to Florida besides the beach would be surprised at the native soil. Eevee, we appreciate all the support you give your family. You guys just do yo.

I absolutely love you guys and your channel. I've followed you since the red paint running down the trailer episode. You are genuinely sweet people and have inspired many project for me to do around my home . I love the Dirt /Sand. it's like having your own mini beach each time you step out of your door . I know from living in Florida, that you are correct, that is Florida native soil . I'm sure it feels sugary soft on your feet. And hopefully it should help with any of that flooding issue that you guys had there last year .
As far as the rude comment . Treat them as bots or childish trolls just trying to get a rise out of you . Like the bullies did at jr. High . I'm sorry Ashley has to face the brunt of their assaults. It's clear to me that you guys are very happy in Florida when compared to the other homes you've had. So enjoy the sunshine, love your homestead . Raise your beautiful children . Have fun ... Love your channel and you are both creators! I live in a town that’s all sand. Actually, more plants grow here than I expected. You have to water more and fertilize more or mix in some soil in it if growing edibles. Your property will be amazing when all finished!

So sorry y'all have to deal with this, it is so unfair! Your family is what a family should be! A great example to others.... it has taken me years to realize (and alot of Bible study) to know I don't even have to pay attention, defend myself or respond. I am 68 years old and I figured out a long time ago that I do not much care what people think . I did my research and talked to people who knew what they were talking about and went from there . If I made a mistake it was on me . It did not cost anyone anything except me . Do not let a bunch of know it alls get you down , shrug them off and continue on . I know you do your research and plan your every decision . Keep on keeping on and pay no attention to those who have nothing better to do than critique someone else's hard work .

Hi - I have been watching since Indiana - the reason I enjoy your channel is that there is no drama - a happy family working together to accomplish something - I know the internet is full of ugly trolls - please ignore them - I am only interested in pictures of dragons, pirate ships sailing on tarps - finding orange trees - digging for hidden treasure but mostly transforming a battered old house into something beautiful
