So after spending all that time and money on the slammed sierra brakes I am still having issues with the rear calipers. I guess the single rear calipers on the silverado and sierra have issues. Instead of replacing the single rear piston caliper, I decided to upgrade to dual piston calipers. The dual piston caliper upgrade on the gmc sierra and chevrolet silverado should have been done from the factory. In this video I show you what is needed and how to swap over to dual piston rear calipers on you sierra or silverado. Go check it out.

Among the people providing videos, on how to do it procedures, your videos are very comprehensive...and overall, just excellent...Coupled with fact that you provide every single part number you've ever used or installed...I can't think of any one...(and I've watched hundreds)....who tops your efforts. Congratulations, you are in a class by yourself.
Thank you. I really appreciate comments like this.
Thank you so very much for your time in making this video! That's a very nice and clean truck and I love the color! You do very good work and I appreciate your great attention to detail!! Oh, and that 4.3L V6 is a damn good engine, you can easily get 300k out of that engine. Thank you for providing a list of part numbers, that is very helpful to the rest of us. Also, I think that it is really awesome that you were able to get your son out there and spend some time with him and teaching him how to work on the truck with you; personally I feel that a father and son working on a vehicle together, is the best bonding ever. I have a 2002 Silverado LS 2x4 4.8L V8 and I'm considering going with the Power Stop upgrade kit, with red powder coated dual piston rear calipers. It's their Z36 kit. It is my hope that you and your family are staying healthy, happy and Covid free!!! God Bless
Thank you. It is nice when I get help from my son
Finally got a silverado 01,your videos inspired me. I'd offer to buy the parts but I paid bills for my house and kids for 2 months.
Good luck on your truck.
Hahaha likewise.
My girl says she is tired of me alway talking about my truck!
My truck never talks back at me or fails me!
Lol
DUDE!! You're literally building my truck for my I bought the stock hangers to to my truck and the next day you had a video out about it. Last weekend I got the 2 piston caliper off a suburban! Thank you soo much man! You've helped alot! Any way you can make a "kill switch" video someone tried to steal my truck last week 😓
Thank you. I'm sorry but don't want to hack the lines to make a kill switch
@@TWAMotorsports understandable! Thanks again!
What's up Travis !!!!!!!!! Glad to see you got around to doing the rear brake upgrade and once you do the front conversion you'll be pleasantly surprised with the results !!!!!!! The ceramic pads are the way to go as brake dust is reduced so the rims stay cleaner and the caliper slides won't get as gummed up like they do with the semi metallic ones. My rotors also seem to be holding out better with no pulsing so far. BTW my truck is a 01 Silverado RCSB with a 4.8 and 275/55/20 tires on 20x10 MB Motorsports rims so it already has plenty of tire on the road and the brakes have no problems stopping them. Keep the great content coming !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's up. Yeah I should have started here but oh well. They do feel better but they work so that is a plus lol. Way less brake dust that's for sure
I would love to see you do a drum to disc conversion on this body style of truck. There is a lot of forums that say you can do this with suburban parts, but I have never found a good video on it.
If I ever buy one I will do that.
I don't know why gm when back to drums in 03. So dump.
They were way more reliable
@@TWAMotorsports see if one of you local buddies will pay for the conversation on one of their rides. If I remember correctly one or two of your lowering jobs had drum brakes
@@leviwoodring6101 According to a GM engineer they went back to drums because the disk brake system has a design flaw, and customers got sick of going thru pads and rotors every six months. For some reason the way the system was designed road debris wears out the pads prematurely. They tried a revised dust sheild but it didn't help. I found this out when I was researching how to swap my 06 to disks...
Awesome detailed install as always! I too did the same thing with my '04. Ordered the Powerstop kit for it and Russell lines. It does stop good, but the dual piston would have been worth while cause my right rear went bad, so I changed both. I heard the same thing on the 05+ with rear drums having larger front disks and calipers, also seen that 2019+ 1500 brakes will fit with a thick washer to space them. I'll be looking into that when I need a front caliper.
Thank you. Yeah I may look into that if a front ever goes bad
My 2006 Silverado came from the factory with 13-inch rotors and drum brakes on the rear. For some reason, they didn't make a disk brake for that year. They did up until 2004 and started back in 2007. So I am putting the 2020 rear disk brakes on my truck with single calipers as I have the 2020 set up with 4 piston calipers and spacers and drilled and slotted rotors on the front. I have heard if you put duals on the rear with 4 a piston set up in the front that the master cylinder can't pump enough fluid. So people are having to switch to a hydraulic brake booster that works off of the power steering pump for hydropower.
The 2020 upgrade seems to be a popular ine but have no experience myself
@@TWAMotorsports The front 2020 year fix for your truck is easy. Just get four spacers 2 for each side that measures about Thickness - 0.155"
OD - 1.10" ID - 0.54" or just stack up washers until you get the proper width. Do away with the original caliper mount because the 2020 calipers bolts directly to the hub on your truck. Use lock tight and the same bolts from your truck as the brake pads just drop in from the top of the caliper and are held in place by two pins. The spacers are to make sure that the rotors are centered in the middle of the new 2020 caliper you have bolted to your truck. I would save my old caliper bracket as you may want to sell your truck and keep your 2020 4 piston calipers.
I'm happy with the brakes it has honestly
I'll tell you one thing that beard line was 👌. I see you keep everything perfectly perfect.
Lol. Its getting out of control
Thanks for the video as I was seriously thinking about converting to the dual piston caliper on my 2000 Silverado Stepside. I liked your comments regarding using stock brake lines vs the stainless steel ones and that you really don't need a big master cylinder.
Thank you. Hopefully its helpful when you do it
I already told my yukon about you he was wondering wy he geting all these swaped upgrades.and I told him that your our neighbor Frome mo.we across the bridge on the east side. Great vid
Thank you
My Yukon is very fond of Travis and TWA motorsports as well
I dont know how I missed your video on this. I am going to look at this when I go to order all my new parts for he G80 axle swap. May be worth the upgrade to dual piston. I will be so glad to get rid of these drums on this truck
Definitely a nice upgrade
Is it still holding up good after a couple years?
Is it still holding up good after a couple years?
@brandon.buchanan81 it is
Great video man, lol when you mentioned the wind I checked the upload date because I'm up in MT right now since the race season was put on hold and we had severe wind that same day as I was trying to do some work on my Truck. It was frustrating
Edit: Man I love that project truck. It's super clean and I love that Green.
Thank you. Yes it seems like I'm always fighting the wind.
I remember when I did my rear brakes on my Silverado the first time and I sat there and pounded and pounded on it and it just would not come off.... Then my buddy looks at me and goes, "....Is the parking brake on?" Rotor fell right off.
Lol. That sucks
Dude my son needed his back breaks changed in his 05 Silverado so we bang on the drum for like an hour then he ask me dad should I release the parking brake. I said yes son and the drum sliped right off looked at him and smh lol he’s learning
Lol. Been there.
Your video wouldn’t be complete without the infamous TRAIN 🚂😂
Lol. I know. Its non stop when I'm filming
You can also do a 2019 to 2020 4 piston front brake conversion on the front. Direct bolt on with the exception of using shims to center the caliper.
I have seen that. Nice swap for sure.
I have an 04 Suburban with a hydroboost brake system that I did the big front brake upgrade with a 2018 year and it fit just fine, my truck already came with the dual piston in the rear and I put the powerstop heavy duty towing pads on all 4's and it stops great, night and day from the old factory small front brakes. But next time brakes are due on my truck I want to put the 2019 and up years front calipers on, the 2019 and up years come with 4 piston brake calipers that also directly bolt up on the front brackets with just adding 1/2in washers to space them out about an 1/8 of an inch to center the calipers even with the rotors. It's awesome that GM keeps all the same bolt on patterns with the brake calipers and with some wheels.
Those are a pretty good upgrade I hear.
Not sure if you know this or not but a 19 Chevy 4 Piston caliper and rotor fit the front and a little washer to space the clapper over a hair
I didn't but that's awesome to know
One thing I started doing a couple years ago is greasing the caliper contact points instead of the whole backs of the pads. uses less goo, is a much cleaner install to do, and it looks better when done. Otherwise great video. I just got all the parts together to install a 2021 4 piston setup up front on my 04 1500, along with an atomic coilover upgrade. got some bilstein 5100s for the back, but those rear brakes now need love.
Sounds like an awesome project you have. Thank you for the tips and good luck on your truck
The man!!! you have a job at my shop anytime brother
Thank you.
My 02 Silverado has always had lackluster semi spongy brakes to say the least since new. Even after many sets of “premium” pads & rotors it was never great - you got me thinking a dual piston upgrade all the way around may help. Thanks !
Glad I could motivate you
I would of had the hoses replaced
Steel braided lines are a must. ❤
It is an upgrade
The front already has dual piston calipers
The new front 4 piston calipers from the 2019 up is a direct swap too
That's what I hear.
Good man if u have anything else let me know fixing up my 03 avalanche slowly
Bolt on swap ?
Yes
Eddie Grijalva yeah just have to get the 2019 rotors and calipers
You mentioned upgrading the front rotors to the 05-06 front calipers. The better upgrade it actually the 19-20 4 piston calipers and 13.5" rotors.
That is a better upgrade option
Great video as usual Travis thank you
Man,I keep buying complete trucks and SUVs when I can pick em up cheap. I grabbed a wrecked 05 Yukon XL complete for $400 and swapped the hydro-boost,bigger front brakes and bigger twin piston rears onto my 01 RCSB 5.3 Silverado...now I gotta watch it cuz I could damn near throw the tailgate thru the windshield😉
Lol
That’s a slick truck
Thank you
Im about to do this upgrade on my 00 z71. Looks like 06 dual piston rear calipers and larger rotors. Gonna do the 07-up silverado/tahoe/suburban front calipers and larger rotors as well.
I need to do my front also
Nice work looks good and performs better !
Thank you. At least they don't lock up now
What rotors did u use in the back bcuz ur link in the description below, takes me to the link five lug rotor and not a 6 lug
Link updated but shows generic picture. It is 6 lug
You don’t need to upgrade the brake booster when upgrading to dual pistons?
No. Same components on trucks that came stock with them.
The pistons are made of a composite similar to Bakelite and the swell overtime from moisture the caliper itself is aluminum the pistons swell and won’t go back in to the caliper if your pistons are any kind of metal the calipers aren’t factory
Probably why gm changed this
I’ll take them if no one has already asked! And great upgrade.
9th in line and thank you
That is one good looking truck.
Thank you
YES SIR ANOTHER SILVERADO VIDEO.
Yep yep
I did the same thing. Replaced my brakes then found out I could of upgraded. What i did do was put Brembo replacement pads for the stock truck. Big difference. Only thing is that ist likes to blacken wheels.
Yeah I hate brake dust
Ya im not sure how much of an upgrade the 06,07 fronts you talked about are it might be the same but if you get parts for like an 09 or something suburban they are a good upgrade you juat have to know you need a 17 or bigger so like if your spare is a 16 you may have to change 2 tires in the side of the road you spare to a rear and that rear to the front
06 and 07 fronts are the same as 07 nnbs and up fronts.
Hey I would like to take the break pads n routers if u still have them By the way love you videos they help a lot
They are gone sorry
Ok thank you Your videos are plenty help already I’m doing everything that u have been doing to your Single cab
Cool,
According to Amazon these will fit my 06 tahoe.
They should
La mamalona 🏎💭
El cuh
Where did you get the dual piston caliper
I’ll take them for my truck! I live right down the street!
6 in line. Will let you know
Travis the truck looks great! Did the truck have rear discs from the factory or is that a conversion? (Sry I missed that part)
Thank you. It had single piston rears disc
Man we are going into may and it's only hitting like 50.. I live on the east coast..
It's been cold here
Good brake job thanks.
Thank you
Good video👍🏻
Thank you
Keep up the cool content! Makes my day
I'm going to try
What was your original rotor size ? The rotor you listed is 13 inches and a lot of trucks came with a 13.6 rotor .
I don't remember
I've been looking in to buying a torque wrench which one is that you're using? Great video 👍
Link in video description. Its a craftsman
I REALLY need to do something about the brakes on my 02 lol. They were soft and spongy before the mods but I was your typical bonehead where I put performance mods before the safety mods as any reasonable American would and lets just say its hard for the stock vacuum brakes to stop a 5100lb truck going 120+ mph. So I think it's finally time for a hydroboost swap, EBC rotors and pads on the front and then the OEM dual piston caliper swap on the rears before I continue my push for a 9 second 1/4 mile pass.
I'm sure that would greatly improve your stopping power
Is it safe to upgrade the rear to match the front? That’s turning the brake power to 50/50 instead of 60/40. So would I have to upgrade the front to be larger than the rear?
No issues here
Calipers come with brackets?
They should
Where you get the back rotors and the dual caliber’s from?
All parts listed in video description
Phenolic, 13 inch rotors. Hoping to find a full float rear end and put 6 lug hubs on with the large disk Brakes in rear. JF7 is rpo code on 2007 silverado classic.
That would be a nice upgrade
@@TWAMotorsports i wan this truck capable wiyhout a new truck note.
After you apply the caliper then you put the brake lines on. This is a easier way. I'm not trying to be cocky but I am a GM mechanic for 17 years
Great 👍 video ! Thanks for the info.
Thank you
great video, i want to upgrade the rear as well, what year is your truck? i have a 2018 and im having trouble finding a dual piston set. thank you
This is a 2002. Completely different animal than a 2018
Probaly going to do this to my 2000 GMC.
Definitely makes a difference
I'm thinking about a 9.5" or 9.75" 14 bolt SF rear with the 13" Rear disc with double piston calipers, know a good place to start? Converting from rear drum. Would like to make this a stock conversion (rear disk with the shoe emergency brake)
That would be strong
@@TWAMotorsports is it possible to accomplish on a drum rear end?
Probably
@@TWAMotorsports yeah it would make it easier if I cant find a disc end as a 9.5
That's for sure
Nice upgrade... Buddy..
Thank you
I was looking for the video on the overload bags. Looking to do a set on my reg cab. Looks like a nice setup. If you’d recommend them it would be awesome to get a link. Thanks!
Thank you. Link is in video description
@@TWAMotorsports awesome thanks! I couldn’t find it so I will go dig again
Another great video bro. Do they make a kit for the front? Keep up the great work
They do off a 2007 classic and 06 I believe
I have the same year truck as u. Do u think they would fit 2002 gmc?
@@bige3938 they do
It's so easy just to put the hardware on the brackets then lube the contract points on the pad, put the pads in place then apply the caliper. This i fine to be the easiest way.
Probably so
What kind of torque wrench do you use?
Craftsman. Link in video description
Nice video, what year the calipers and rotors are? I have a 99 Silverado 4wd and I want to make sure that I can do the upgrade I’m not sure if they will fit both 2wd and 4wd that’s what I want to know the year and model of the truck that the upgrade rotors and caliper fit, thanks.
Yes 4wd and 2wd are the same rear end
Ordered 2020 Silverado 1500 front calipers/rotors they came in and rotors didn’t sit flush inside calipers nor the pistons were aligned with the rotor. Also, rotor size is 13.5” diameter, there’s an upgrade kit that has the 15” diameter rotors for $2300 been to 4 dealerships and no one has them or can order them. Local auto part store go based on a non GM trucks so they won’t have the right stuff. Now I’ll consider 2011 model with 1” increase in rotor size 13” and call it a day.
Well that sucks. Good luck finding the right parts.
Good video. I would recommend clamping off the end of the brake line hose before breaking the seal to the brake caliper. This would prevent excess air entering the brake line, and prevent excess fluid leaving the brake line.
Probably not a bad idea
What would you use to clamp it?
Vice grips if rubber. I'm not a huge fan of doing that though.
Those lines are soft lines. He did it right
I'm checking right now but I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado and I ordered the kit I thought I was being smart after seeing you but I need the bracket for the rear two piston calipers as you know the one that's on there is 4 inches center to center are six and a half inches center to center and I need seven and a half anyways be much appreciated but hopefully I find it
Should be able to find one.
I just did this same swap a month ago and the fronts from an ‘05 with rear drums
Nice
Arturo Galindo did you use a kit? Wanting to do the same on my 07c
Haze89 for the rear I used 2004 Tahoe calipers, caliper brackets, rotors and re- used my stock hoses. For the front I’m using calipers, brackets and rotors from a 2005 Silverado/Sierra model that came with rear drums. Those rotors are about 25-30mm bigger. I’m also gonna be swapping in the hydro boost and master cylinder from a 2004 Suburban.
What parts are you using calipers and rotors
All parts listed in video description
What about the emergency brake pads and hardware with these different rotors. I am wanting to do this on my truck. I'm just not sure if I will be able to use the same caliper bracket
Same e brake pads work
What vehicle are these brackets supposed to be for?
I ask because I would like to do this upgrade but with the Z36 heavy duty system.
What year vehicle are the calipers and brake pads and rotos from
05 suburban I think. Links to all parts in video description
I have single rear calipers… can i just switch it to dual or is there anything i need for the conversion?
I show every single part in the video and video description
What kind of paint did you use on the Calipers?
Link in video description. G2 caliper paint
I want to do the same thing to my 2018 Silverado
Do it
Would like to do this two piston upgrade for my 2015 Silverado rear brakes. What would I need? Do I jus order the front calipers for my model year??
Not sure on the newer stuff
Hey Travis what truck did u get that set up from
All parts listed in video description
Id reccomend traction bars.
Probably do that down the road with the V8 swap
How are they holding up, going to do the same swap ,did you swap the proportion valve or does the one it has work
Its holding up great. Brakes are the only thing I swapped
What year truck they come off of thank you man
2007 classic
Hey did ur truck come with disk break in the rear already cause my truck has drums ughhh i wana swap it out
It did
Awesome
Thank you
I’ll take both set for GMC Yukon
Already gone
Quick question boss, the banjo copper washers did they come with the calipers? Im gonna buy all the same parts you got for my 06 so I can get rid of my crappy single piston calipers cause they keep going out and leaking break fluid at the piston. I noticed that the calipers may or may not come with the washers on Amazon. also great vid, I’ve never done a brake job in my life and I learned a lot just by watching you do the removal haha
They did come with the calipers
Awesome! Thank you man
You're welcome
One more question boss will the calipers fit onto my current single piston caliper bracket? Or do I have to swap the brackets as well
Need brackets
Do you still have those brake calipers and rotors
No
Good video bro.
Thank you
Do you still have those single piston caliper and rotors?
No
Hey awesome video and channel do you still have the old ones??
I don't. They are gone
Did you have to use tahoe rotors or did the stock rotors work ?
None of this is stock from this truck. Link to parts in video description
Are the new caliper brackets different than the original ones?
Yes
@@TWAMotorsports what’s the part number? Or can I still use the original ones to go from one piston caliber to two piston calibers?

@@TWAMotorsports my bad, I was a little confused and didn’t realize that the bracket and caliper are together in the parts list. I was thinking it was separate
Sorry, no they come together
I have a 2000 silverado do I need some kind of kit to change from single to dual
I list all parts used in video description
Do you have a link for the rear disk brake conversion kit? Having issues finding one that I like.
No but link to all parts in video description
what rear brake lines did you buy do you have that part number im doing the same 2 piston convesion i got your part numer list i bought everything i just need the rear brake lines if you can help me with the part numer that would be great thanks brother i have been watching all your vidios thay are grate thank you
Used originals I believe
I need those
Its a nice upgrade
i dont know if you still have the 2500 truck? if you do you should do a dashboard swap, and door electrinics swap, to be electric i just did it on mine it was so easy acouple bolts and the dash it out
That truck was not power windows
@@TWAMotorsports damn, I thought it was, I got my single cab for 1,000, I bought a suburban for 500 did the engine and full interior swap and even swap the fuel lines and flex fuel sensor, only bought a heater core for good measures everything was plug and play only cut my stock headliner to add the map lights
Nice. Stay tuned because I have surprises coming
@@TWAMotorsports 10-4 cant wait
Is there an OEM equivalent for these rotors and calipers, just for reference?
Yes for a 2005 suburban
This thing came with Rotors on all 4 corners? New to the channel
Yes
Will that dual piston caliper swap work on a 2009 Chevy Tahoe if so what year parts do I need
I'm sure it will
Did that green truck come factory with disk brakes and do you know if there is a disk brakes conversion kit out there for a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew cab LS short bed
It did come with discs.
Are these the stock calipers for the rear of the 06 and 07 trucks?
Nvm I see the links in description thank you for sharing that
You're welcome
I got some of a 2006 Tahoe the rear calipers. Dual piston. Would those be a direct swap for a 2001 Silverado for the rears?
Yes they should bolt right on
What wheels you running?

Travis, so I found out all the grinding while driving n braking, the rear passenger side brake drum rotor was all eating up, like a sharp disc from where the pad brakes on. So dangerous but I found that issue. Now I upgrade to the rear dual piston, it is still binding up, locking up the rear drum rotor so tight. What is the cause of this? is it the master cylinder or brake lines? I bleed all 4 lines n brake fluid does come out fine. Was this the problem u had when u said the rear have issue.
I would bet its a brake line if I had to guess
