Features I like about the IR-688:
    Large Capacity Internal Lithium Battery.
FM Reception is Well Above Average.
FM Stereo Sounds Good, and Comes in Easily on Many Stations.
    AAA Dry Battery Bay.
    Dynamo.
    Type C Charging Jack.
Power Bank Feature. Will Charge your Phone a Couple Times.
Two Hundred and Seventy Degree Range of Motion on the Reading Lamp.
    Bright Flashlight, with Strong Floods.
    Loud SOS Siren.
    Decent Build Quality.
    Shortwave Band from 3.2-20MHz.
    Weather Alert Mode.
    Switchable Power Modes.
    Easy to Read Display.
AM is Good for Locals, and Semi Locals. Will DX at Night.
Features that could be Added or Improved on:
Increase Charge Input Rate to Two Amps.
Adjust Headphone Experience. Too Loud on Lowest Volume, and Moderate Hiss.
Ability to Manually Add Presets. This would Make Shortwave Tuning more Enjoyable.
Remove Soft Touch Plastic Treatment, most People don't want this feature.
    Lower Price.
IPX3 Water Resistance is Questionable with the openings in the Dry Battery Bay.
Overall, this Emergency Radio makes Strides to set itself apart from the Common Emergency Receiver. A High Capacity Battery, Plenty of Lighting Options, and an FM Experience Usually found in more Expensive Radios. I give this Radio a "Maybe" Recommendation. The Price point puts it right in the middle of some Decent radios, such as the Sangean MMR-88. Not large capacity, but an Excellent Tuner, with an Amazing Headphone Experience. A lower price will make this IR-688 more Attractive to Potential Buyers.

Great review as per usual. I wish these radio manufacturers would make the lithium battery replaceable. The radio has all the features on the bands plus stereo, nice a little pricey though. I think REI still sells the C Crane Solar Observer for$50 ( my favorite emergency radio even with NiMh batteries). I’m always a sucker for emergency radios. Take care.

Test with AMT-MW207 AM transmitter to 576, 585 and 594 kHz when you tune this radio to 580 and 590 kHz, so you’ll know that bandwidth for this AM tuner on that radio or check with shortwave bands 6105 kHz for Japanese NHK broadcast and you tune to 6100 and 6110 kHz.

This radio actually can tune directly to 6.105 MHz. That is what the little 5 is for on the display. It also allows you to tell if, for example, you have a NOAA weather radio station in your area at 162.525 MHz.

Wonderful display, real stereo, and a good combo of features make this a buy... But this price here is still a little high for me. I'll probably be one of the first in line when it lowers though. Thanks for the review.

I really like 👍 all the “velvet curtain “ showings of your radios 📻. I’ve never 👎 heard of “iRonsnow” for the brand name, but this is a pretty 😍 impressive little radio 📻. Your friend, Jeff.

Todderbert the battery capacity of this orange radio also allows for the exploitation of the lighting capabilities of the devise. I remember when yellow was your favorite color for an emergency radio.

Oh this one's quite a looker. Orange looks great as a easy to spot color for an emergency radio. Even Stereo Speakers. Pretty awesome! Nice they even included a german translation in the manual even Weatherband is pretty useless in Germany. Cool that the reading light even turns. Sound is pretty good for the size. Seem to be using Laptop Speakers. Seeing that it also has a Scan radio feature makes me wonder... Co do you have any intentions on testing the Leehoos Emergency radio that looks like a smaller version of the Sangean MMR-99? It comes in a few color variations (Black, Sand tan, Green and Blue) and i haven't seen anyone on RUclips reviewing it so far.

I've always had a bad relationship with ironsnow, all of the radios that I've gotten end up with the exact same issues every time. Volume knob becomes loose, large amounts of static, and tuning becomes unaligned
