I bought fake Chanel earrings …I got 14 kt gold double C earrings. Fake Chanel but Real gold 149 bucks …I’ve had and worn them for 8 years. No lost stones or turning metal. I can’t wear the metals used in fake Chanel jewelry. I detest the term “ costume” when it’s just trash

I think it's crazy that you can buy a pair of earrings at tj maxx with real gold posts, for say 35 bucks. But a $800 pair of Chanel's, they can't even bother to dip the post in gold; or at least something that won't turn your ear green. I mean, it's absolute madness.

I have a couple of Hermes bangles and one LV fashion necklace, which is plated brass. I bought all of this stuff before I started working in a fine jewelry store. Now that I am around solid gold and real diamonds every day, I don't think there's any chance I will spend hundreds on costume jewelry ever again. The profit margins on designer costume jewelry are absolutely obscene, you are buying plastic, shady metal alloys, and poorly made junk that will tarnish. Gold, on the other hand, holds value and lasts forever, and doesn't irritate most people's skin.

Some of those brooches you can put on a denim jacket and make it a statement piece, I'd be inclined to do that with the dog and heart ones for instance, maybe on black or dark navy if you have more than 3 it can look good. This is a bit of a 2000 look or even an 80s look but can be great if you keep the rest of the look very plain. It's one way to get some wear out of jewellery items you aren't otherwise using.
    makeup looking great Jessie.

I think some costume jewelry pieces from Chanel and Hermes can elevate your outfit.
I was influenced by Christine Quinn on Selling Sunset in which she was wearing a gorgeous long Chanel pearl necklace that really made a statement. I was able to find the exact same one on the Japanese preloved market. It's good to wear with Chanel-like jackets, because dainty fine jewelry will be hidden underneath winter clothes.
The luxury RUclipsr Amber Ashleigh influenced me to buy a Chanel brooch. It's nice to wear it on the collar of an otherwise plain, simple jacket. She influenced me to buy Hermes click clack bracelets too. I like how I can match the colors with my bags and clothes. I think of these items as part of my clothes, rather than as real jewelry. I have real fine jewelry for every-day purposes but they don't really stand out when I want to make a fashion statement for special occasions.
But as you say, I wouldn't invest the full retail price on these items because I think they are overpriced. I have been able to find good deals for about half the price on the pre-loved market here in Japan.

I never understood why brands don’t use stainless steel for their costume jewelry? It’s cheap, it won’t tarnish over time, and it tends to be hypo-allergenic. It probably costs slightly more than the cheap brass they tend to use, by I’d be willing to pay more if I knew the pieces wouldn’t tarnish. But I guess all these brands really care about is turning the biggest profit, and it seems like using these crap materials is the way to do it…But it’s always a no from me - I won’t buy anything with brass or base metal in it.

Exactly! They must’ve spent R&D to find the world’s worst metals. It’s not just the un-plated brass it’s the awful nickel. I have sensitive skin & I just Can’t. My Derm warned me about the luxury brands when I was talking new ear piercings; she said even paying thousands+ & knowing the gemstone grades & setting’s carats doesn’t mean that post isn’t nickel, or some part of the underside of any jewelry - she sees the (wealthy, furious) patients!

I would never purchase exorbitantly expensive costume jewelry-I’d rather get the real thing.
However, I have read that a lot of extremely wealthy women buy and wear costume jewelry when they are out and about but bring out the real jewelry for events/galas. That way if god forbid they get robbed the robber gets the fake while the real is safe in a vault. They makes sense to me.
That Vivienne Westwood necklace is a gorgeous.
I also would rather spend the money for a bag.🤷🏾‍♀️

I understand and respect that each person does with their money what they want. Making that clear, I don't understand how someone decides to spend so much money on jewelry that it is made with cheap materials, not even silver or gold-plated. And I know that when you buy designer items, you are paying more for the name of the brand than for the product, but still, with what now charge Chanel for her jewelry, you could invest just a little more and get a piece of real gold from Cartier. It's just that Chanel charges up to thousands of dollars for something that surely doesn't cost her even 10 dollars to manufacture.
In addition, it doesn't matter if what you wear is original, in terms of custom jewelry, if you wear something from Chanel 90% of people will believe that it is fake, and in many cases it will surely be better made and with better quality than the originals lol.

I agree about a lot of the modern Chanel jewelry, Not worth it. But I’ve been a little bit of a collector of the 1980s and 90s gold plated Chanel. It’s really big and bold, and not very fashionable. The teeny tiny jewelry and curated pierced ear of today is in total contrast of the button earrings in gold. And not champagne, gold but bright gold or even antique gold

If I started to buy costume jewellery now I would definitely go BUST 🤣 My ears hurt even with fine pieces in, sometimes I wonder if I had them pierced in the wrong place or something 😕
You can't really trust all brands either. I see Ana Luisa being promoted by influencers - their website says the pieces are made in a different way and are tarnish resistant. My ring started to change colour two weeks in! I don't trust the content creators saying they wear their AL pieces daily, they surely would get the same levels of wear as I did! Unless they do nothing, I wore the ring every day and it was in contact with surfaces.
Now I wear two simple sterling silver bands from an Etsy seller, they were just 6 GBP each! No tarnishing and my fingers aren't green!
