I love your videos so much, so many people refuse to work on these old Fords, they say the parts are hard to find and they arent worth it but I love them, and you are so down to earth about going about it. This thing is gonna be amazing when your done with it.
If the parts were easy to find, they wouldn't be worth as much as they are. I will never put down anyone for their taste in old cars, after-all, it is the car owner who needs to be impressed with the car.......nobody else's opinions matter. Do what you love, fuel your own passions and FTW.
I bought a 1964 Galaxie XL500 when I graduated high school in 1967. It was cherry with a 390 4 spd stick with a Hurst competition plus shifter. I was running 11.2 sec quarter miles with it. Traded it in when I got back from Viet Nam on a 1969 Mustang Mach 1. Mustang couldn't hold a candle to the Galaxie. Still the best car I ever owned. Current vehicle is a 1989 C1500 Chevy Silverado that I bought new in March of 1990. Just under 300K miles and I still drive it every day. Getting ready to do body work and a factory original paint job. Going to cherry it out. Might replace the stock 350 with a 350/350. Love my truck but still miss my Galaxie. Good Luck with it.
I had one sj .. it was 4 speed with 390 4bbl carb it ran so good .seafoam green with black interior everything was cromed out inside and out ..sweet car it was ..it was in the mid 90s we had gas shortage and it liked to drink smoke and stay out late .so I had to sell it .great car you have ..I will be fallowing the build ..
You have great bones in that car. As for the rust, those models rusted above the headlamps in the fenders and the lower rear quarters...in the new England and mid Atlantic 100%. I sure wish I still had mine....If you intend to paint it blue, I suggest 1955 Mercury Gulfstream Blue, or a similar shade. I know that sounds nuts, but look. Irregularities...it is a one year design, even though the interior shares much with the 63. You have a real jewel here. Please don't ever give up. The coupe is rare these days...its 55 YEARS old, and is still beautiful.
I am not at all a Ford guy, but I am an old car guy, and Pontiac blood runs wild through my veins. I just found your channel today, and this is the video that made me subscribe. I say that because you were ballsy enough to wear that baseball cap in a time when Law Enforcement is not very well liked. As a LEO myself, I really appreciate you wearing that cap. Thank you, and keep the up the nice work on your videos.
Those two pieces of painted trim go around the back glass for the interior. And also those two carpet pieces are kick panels but I don't think those are the original (the originals are plastic)
@@Thecraig909 you're welcome, if you go follow me on Instagram (treylewis016) I can help you better and if you need something decoded send me a pic of it and I will send you want it means. PS: Ford did not keep documents for the cars, so if you don't have a build sheet you will not be able to get one (the build sheet is under the back bottom seat on the pass side)
The trim at 6:51 goes inside the car where the dash meets the front windshield. At 9:58 I think you had the window crank on the wrong thing. You had it on the one for the vent window
I did a one piece tilt front end on my Galaxie years ago using 89 chrysler mini van rear hatch latches it was killer, a baby c6 with a mild built medium riser side oiler 427 that Galaxie screamed. Dropped a little bit on some old weld drag lites 15x8 tucked in the back with 14x7 up front it had a mean look it used to piss off lots of folks light to light. Nice project man!!
Great videos! Fords had some great looking cars in the early 60's, from the big round taillights that look like afterburner on a jet, hardtop roof lines. We are just finishing up our own restoration project to on our 1964 Ford Falcon Hardtop too.
I just started watching your videos so I’m not sure how experienced you are with classic cars, but the best trick for cleaning and getting rid of rust off chrome and stainless is a wet SOS pad. It’s amazing been using them in my shop for years!
I’m almost 15 and I’m working on a 1969 Chevy c20 longbed project and I can’t wait to rip around in it once I get the wiring harness done. You inspire me to keep working on my passion. Keep it up!
i had a '64 with a 390 and the cruiseomatic auto trans..it was a XL with the 2nd speaker in the rear seat and a fader ...loved that land yacht ..used to drive it when my '55 chevy was down or it was raining...i can verify at least 4 people can fit in the trunk on 3.00 per car drive in movie night
I went to tubular control arms on my 64 and have a set of upper and lower arms completely restored, 100% new parts, ready to bolt in.. They can be seen on page 16 when the car was the centerfold in The Galaxy Club magazine May/June 2017.
I had a friend who's dad work at the Ford assembly plant in Dallas and remember seeing these coming out of the plant and the guy's taking them to the storage yard had em screaming out of the door.
I'm taking a special interest in this, as I learned to drive and got my license in a '64 just like this - except dark metallic green. Loved that car. Good luck with your project. I'm anxious to see your progress.
Glad to see you have that car I'm sure you will give it the respect it deserves damn carpet pieces maybe the side kick panels up front I'm really amazed at how good a shape the car s the floorboard wise I web down south and most of them are just rotted to the ground and enjoy the video as always
Those painted parts go around the windshield or back glass an a great find with some tools in all the goodies in the trunk an that's awesome that you almost all the trim your very lucky there cause these cars are expensive to replace parts for I've got a 66 T Bird been working on for years
That motor looks exactly like the one in my ‘85 t-top mustang gt after I did a a/c delete. Throw that carb out with the air cleaner and get a 650cfm double pumper with manual choke or choke removed, been over 15 years since I installed the Holley and haven’t had any issues. I think it has 72/76 jets and changed the cam on the squirter to come on slow. Still have to ease into it at lower RPM’s but when you hit 3-3500 and punch it, it will roast the tires!
Really enjoy what you all are doing it's great to see younger people getting involved in the car/truck lifestyle have you considered building that galaxie into a replica NASCAR stock car from back in the day just a suggestion but it would be pretty cool
This Car is Awesome! Great to see all the original parts you found in the trunk, If you look around enough im sure you can find someone that "rebuilds" those old radios & HVAC Controlls, or you may be able to find a do it yourself hvac kit, just a thought. keep the vids coming Craig & keep up the great work buddy!
Brother that car has alot of the original parts which is a bonus. At least you are not dealing with RAT poop like usual. You can find that back trim piece by using some of the Galaxie vendors or even reaching out to the Galaxie Club of America. I too am restoring a 64 Ford but mine is a Futura Falcon Convertible with a 289 T-10 4 spd with buckets, console, dash pad, 3.25 8 inch rear. Keep going man despite the limited time you have between school and work. I will be following this video series.
Those two painted pieces either are for the interior rear window or carpet holders rear side of door on floor but it looks like it’s 90 percent there .
"Sill Plates" in the bottom of your door jambs. "A" pillar trim for each side of your windshield. The drivers side is always the left side, and I believe the proper term for your project is "basket case"! LOL!
I wouldn't say this car is a basket case at all. I have seen guys take cars in far worse condition than this one is and turn them into show stoppers. This body is fairly clean and complete, the floor pan and trunk pan are nice and solid. He even has 2 new front fenders and a hood for the car. Yeah there is some rust issues with the roof, but nothing a little work won't resolve, everything else is cosmetic and electric, which are easy to work through. Naturally with the car being a few decades old, and it was not properly cared for, it's also going to need to be repainted when he is done with the mechanical, electric and cosmetic issues. I'm sure if he wanted a show car, he would have saved up some more money and bought something ready to show, but a lot of us old car guys prefer the project car so we can really get to know the car, personalize it to our own liking and turn it into a show car that we want to keep forever.
Curious to see how you tackle the rust in the A pillar and roof skin. I am getting ready to embark on fixing those same spots on my 67 Buick, have never done that type of repair before.
I love watching this. Excited to see what you do with it. I have a 64 galaxie 500 4dr. Just ripped out the 289 and dropped a 390 in her and she rips. Gonna be doing suicide doors on her soon really excited.
Check the ID plate codes. By the roof rust it looks like it had a vinyl covered roof. They don't prep so well under the top and they are known to rust out way before they should.
7:32 you know, those are supposed to come out, what did you think happened to the ash after it filled up? 😂 Anyway love the video and I look forward to seeing where this project goes
hey Craig love the channel I owned a 64 galaxie and a 69 f100 when I was a senior in high school if I remember correctly the red trim pieces go to the front half the headliner by the windshield also I don't know if he is still around but I got galaxie parts from a guy in kingman,az that had I literal valley of galaxies I found his info on some galaxie websites back then but that was 2008 so don't know if he's still around worth looking into
When i bought my dart i ran into the same problem. It came with all of the trim and most of the interior and even stuff that used to belong to another car
Hope you have the headlight retaining rings been helping my friend work on his 62 galaxie which was missing only one all the supposed after market ones he ordered ended up being late 60s or early 70s ford pieces which are to big for the early 60s galaxies pretty much have to get them off a parts car
Putting plastic over your car helps it rust faster. use no plastic and leave windows open about an inch, or put it inside or carport or build tent that has lots of airflow.

the arm rests you showed are for the rear the red trim is for the top of your windshield the odd looking handles are to open your doors
At 2:45 those go on the inside around the front or rear window...
Hell ya man! The car is sick, cant wait to see more!
I would be great to be able to get the radio working and tune the oldies station. Imagined what was like back in '64.
There's nothing on AM anymore except Sports Talk, religious stations and right-wing tripe.

You can go to lmc truck and get a radio that looks like the original with knobs but they are digital and I think they are plug and play too
Craig, there’s a growing market on the Japanese Mini truck. How about a video on them?
The FoMoCo headlight is either an old original or Scott Drake reproduction. I have the 7 inch reproductions on my 69 F100.
When I got my c10 I saved a c20 for parts so when you start a project see if you can find a parts car or truck that is the best way I think
