"Former longtime NBA shooting guard JJ Redick, who has no prior coaching experience in the league, was introduced Monday as the Los Angeles Lakers’ next coach.
Redick, who celebrated his 40th birthday Monday, replaces Darvin Ham, who was fired in May after two seasons with the Lakers.
“I have zero coaching experience in the NBA, but I would argue that I’m very experienced and it started 22 years ago when I went to Duke and I got to play for Coach K (Mike Krzyzewski) for four years, spent 15 years as a (NBA) player,” he said.
Redick said the past three years - in which he’s worked as a podcaster and ESPN analyst - have been invaluable in his preparation."

It's not unheard of to hire a coach without experience. It's been done before. However JJ had a lot of smoke for Doc Rivers, a lot. So, now JJ is gonna find out how hard it is to coach especially coaching Lebron. We gonna see wut he's made of.

Pat Riley didn't have any coaching experience, only experience as a nba player. Clippers head coach, Tyronn Lue, also didn't have head coaching experience but was an NBA player. However, both of them have a strong basketball IQ and extensive experience on the court, which is crucial for knowing what to do.

29 coaches in Lakers history one of those Magic Johnson who had no experience when he got the job , unsuccessfully I might add. Larry Bird no experience when he became Pacers head man. Need I also mention Jason Kidd with extremely limited experience before he got a head coaching job in the NBA. Point being this isn’t the first time this has happened in the league and it won’t be the last time. So screw you for trying to bring race into this. Not really news at all. Plenty of former NBA players get hired all the time without any coaching experience. Doc Rivers, Jason Kidd, Earvin Magic Johnson, Larry Bird are a few names that stand out as former players with zero prior coaching experience. The NBA leads all major sports when it comes opportunities for non-white players. Even women have better opportunities in the NBA when compared to other leagues. The only coaching bias known in the NBA is the league's reputation for not hiring former centers. And even some centers have made it as head coaches. Critics have to let this one go.

3. Kidd was in line/talks for owning part of the team so, whereas not right, still made sense for reasoning.
4. Mark was the result of new owners wanting to recall their whole system.
5. The Lakers are not amid a rehaul w new ownership.
6. JJ has never won a chip in the NBA and is only known for buckling under pressure IN THE NBA.
7. The Lakers team is one of the most historically relevant franchises in the league, and the guy they hired, called all of those players 80s and prior, trash plumbers.

I don’t see what the issue is. There have been several former players who’ve went on to be coaches. I mean if he can play the game for as long as he did why not give him a chance? Steve Kerr didn’t do too shabby of a job.
