Mario 35 kinda replaced Tetris 99 for me at some point, now that Mario 35 is gone I have played Tetris 99 again a few times, but not a whole lot. So I think what you said worked for me with Mario 35 as the replacement addiction. The problem with Pacman 99 as rehab is that one isn't going anywhere, so you'll never be cut off.
Jon has definitely been having a lot of 99 hype recently. From Mario 35 being shut down to Pac-Man 99 coming out within like 24 hours of its announcement, he’s had a lot to talk about.
Tetris 99 is still a fantastic game and I love it dearly, I didn't play it as much during launch, but once they started adding in all the themes and DLC I got hooked! Still love playing it today.
It's kind of weird. I've been gaming for a bit over 20 years now but I never played Tetris and Pacman until the launch of Tetris 99 and Pacman 99. That's what I like the most about these games: they give these classics a new chance to shine.
I stopped this video 7 minutes in to hop into Tetris 99 .... and won the 1st game I played ... my 1st win ever!!! I blame .... I mean, thank Jon Cartwright!!! Thx mate!!!

Love Tetris. I played Tetris online when it was on the DS. This is a wonderful evolution of the online format. The tickets keep me playing everyday for at least on game to get them.
Tetris 99 is amazing. Can’t tell you how many times “eh.... I’ve got time for one game” turned into “what time is it now?”... also does anyone else’s eyes hurt after playing this game for awhile?
My favorite themes are the Animal Crossing theme, the Ring Fit theme, and Luigi’s Mansion theme. So fun and addicting! I’m missing a few themes from the Maximus Cup events and I hope that they make a return at some point in the future.
I have a love/hate relationship with the Tetris series. Sometimes the series gives me the right puzzle pieces that I want and sometimes it doesn't give me the right puzzle pieces that I want.
Yep, still playing and I got my first star recently too^^ Most of the times it's just nice to start a gaming session with a couple of 99 matches because they are like a warm up training for reflexes, finesse and strategic thinking which is needed for many games like PuyoPuyoTetris2^-^ I also thought that the music would bore me eventually but once the first Kirby theme(Kirby Super Clash) was there I was completely hooked. Such a great victory theme and it works so well with Kirbys midair flatter sound being the rotation sound. I used that theme for a long time without any complains and now there is another Kirby theme(Kirby Fighters 2) and I am addicted to the 50-11 theme because that Dedede theme is absolutely georgous. That said, the other themes are great too. Ring Fit music slaps and without Tetris99 I probably wouldn't have known that :D Here some general Tetris Tipps: - speed is key. Fast stacking, fast down stacking, fast reactions to what pieces you are using. Keep playing - missplays are okay. The real problem is the stun phase after a missplay. Focus on fixing the missdrops and don't make the even bigger mistake to get stunned for too long. - try not to cling too much on to I pieces. Yes, they are valueable for Tetrises but if the piece at hand doesn't seem to fit anywhere than switching to the holded I piece can be very useful - If all you want are Tetrises(clearing 4 rows with an I piece is called a Tetris) than build the shaft for the I pieces on the left side. It's easier for I pieces to get caught on the right side(this might vary from other titles but in Tetris99 it's like this) - T-Spins are fancy and very useful but not necessary for winning. If you want to learn them, check out the Harddrop community. It's easy to understand but can be a bit tricky to build. I suggest learning the TKI3 as a start to get the general shape for the most common and basic form for a T-Spin. From there you can go to fancier stuff like STSDs and DT canons once you got a good grip on the matter...or should I say T matter...no, no I shouldn'T :3
I pretty much have Switch Online just for Tetris 99. It's the game that I keep getting back to. The fun thing about this game that it can be fun even when you lose. There is always something satisfying in a single game. You don't have to be a Tetris-pro to enjoy it.
Invictus is my favourite too. Incidentally, the Tetris 99 community on Twitch is awesome. People like Tetrium, Jin, Ducky etc. are amazing and I regularly play games or snipe with them.
Great video! I love this game. Wasn't a huge Tetris fan beforehand, but when you stick to it with T99, you DO get better. I have won 3 or 4 times but I have only gotten 2nd on Invictus mode so far. This game is COMPETITIVE and I love it! iI can pretty consistently end up in the top ~20 and that feels great since it wasnt the case until I put the time in!!
First time I tried to play it, it was just too intense and stressful for me. But last year I tried again during the Animal Crossing Maximus Cup while I was in quarantine, and it just clicked. I don't know if the soothing Animal Crossing music made a difference, but I played the heck out of it and have loved it since. Tetris is probably the most perfect video game ever made, and Tetris 99 is one of the most fun ways to play it.
I love Tetris99 so much! I've played 103 hours, won 76 times, once with 16 KOs. I've won Invictus just twice, but I don't play that often. I even play in the Mexican League, every tuesday we receive passwords and each place gets points. I just love Tetris99!!!
I bought a NSO membership when tetris 99 came out and have clocked over 300 hours. I've never played any other game online (aside from mario 35) and I still feel like I have got more than my money's worth.
So far, I’m much more of a PAC-MAN 99 kinda guy, but I played Tetris 99 so so much. Once my PAC-MAN 99 hype dies, it’s definitely going to go back to being in my regular schedule
To answer the question in the description, yes, it’s perfectly fine to experience the Tetris effect (in this context, I mean the actual scientific phenomenon, which the game Tetris Effect is based on). You see blocks in sleep? That’s amazing. Also to add on to statements in the video, I was playing Invictus Cup yesterday, only got in a match with 25 humans. I won, but it is more empty than in the past
I play Tetris 99 every week still, but honestly, I almost always only play the paid DLC, "Marathon," which is just standard tetris. I only play the 99 player game when there is a free theme available.
I still play this too. I usually play whilst waiting for dinner to cook, time flies when you're having fun. The only thing that's annoying with the game is it lets me do really well just when the cooker starts beeping telling me dinners ready, why does it do that?
I just got a MUCH bigger SD card for my system and was JUST looking at this game (which I put in the cloud previously) and was wondering if I should possibly go back and mess with it again after all this time. I think you might have just given me my answer (especially since it seems the special themes from the maximus cups can still be bought if you have enough tickets, and hear I thought I missed out on that cool Origami King theme forever among others) ;)
I still play Tetris 99 every day. I completely agree, it’s one of the Switch’s best games, and it single-handedly makes Nintendo’s online service a bargain.
