    • Creole Belles - March ...
Open the videodescription for link to the tab (sadly, it's 7 pages long, all the repeats are written out - it also differs slightly from my version).
I posted a free condensed version of how I play it on my website
    www.daddystove...
"Creole Belles - March and Two-Step" is a cakewalk written by composer J. Bodewalt Lampe in the year 1900. Lyrics were added to the middle section and it became a popular song of it's day.
Mississippi John Hurt, the country-blues guitarist, eventually turned this part of the composition into a song which he used to play and sing as : 'My Creole Belle'. This is the version that most people know well.
I play all three sections. the first one has a brass band feeling to it, which comes as no surprise as 'Creole Belles' was one of the early cakewalks that the great bandmaster John Philip Sousa included in his repertoire when looking for new syncompated rhythms. The second section is the song 'my Creole Belle' and the third, a trio in a different key.
    Standard tuning, capo II
I learned this song from an old Kicking Mule lp called 'Masters of the Ragtime Guitar'.
"Masters of Ragtime Guitar" is still available as a download, with the original version by Lasse (only $10).
It comes with a pdf file that has tabs for 10 songs

If you're interested in this style, check out Lasse's book 'Early Jazz for fingerstyle guitar' published by Mel Bay
This book comes with a cd on which Lasse plays all the arrangements from the book; you'll find tab for 'Creole Belles' in this book too.
Also lotsa Ragtime songs in my "Ragtime" playlist

In the background a print of a painting by Belgian artist Jan Verheyen. Jan and I went to primary school together and he gave me my first, and only, guitarlesson when I was 16 years old.

Splendid job! I had only heard John Hurt’s version of this tune. The full composition is great. Your videos are always a revelation and an inspiration.

A lovely arrangement. I only knew John Hurt's version as a song and your previous 2008 post of this ragtime. Thank you so much for sharing Carl !

Why the capo at the second fret? To match the recording or just to make it sound brighter?

On the original recording (Masters of Ragtime Guitar - see videodescription) Lasse Johansson has a capo on the second fret. It sounds brighter and is easier to finger.
