For me my #1 adult cartoon right now has to be Moral Orel. I connected with this show a lot. This show also did something that I love: it delved into its characters. This hit on an emotional level, which no other show has been able to do in a long time. Another thing is the fact that it starts out very similar to Bojack, in terms of being more simple. I am going to be honest. The first season is the weakest, but at the same time it is needed. The first season is more formulaic and focuses on comedy, basically a pilot season. Like what you thought with the first few episodes of Bojack, I believe that the majority of the first season of Moral Orel was more of a front. My evidence for this is that the first season ends dark, and it only gets darker. In summary, this show is really amazing. Some additional points are that the show also looks very childish, being done in a very cartoony stop motion style. Sorry, for the long comment, I just really wanted to say this.
My hot take. A good adult cartoon (or, any adult product) doesnt go out of its way to be grotesque, violent, vulgar, or otherwise "mature". It goes there sometimes, maybe even frequently, but not for its own sake. It still tries to be engaging without the layer of edge. Shows that just try to offend you in one way or another constantly are honestly trying too hard. Good adult cartoons should have the ability, but not the obligation, to go into things like the mentioned sex and politics. Edit: does seem i agree with you
Surprised Bob's Burgers wasn't mentioned at all during the video or not a lot in the comments. While yes it's another sitcom I feel like it hits the same nice spots that King of the Hill and Home Movies hits. It was definitely a bit edgier in the early seasons (just a bit it wasn't South Park edgy) I think it's a good addition to the "Adult animated family sitcom" genre with having the Belchers basically be broke or down on their luck every single day of their lives but they don't let it get them down. It's very realistically wholesome even if some of the situations the Belchers get themselves in are a bit wacky compared to the world we live in.
It came to mind (Obviously) but for me I think it's much more universal than all these other shows. The rest of these couldn't be understood by kids, watched maybe but not understood, but Bob's Burgers will make adults and kids laugh for much the same reasons. I think it's an everyone show, as opposed to an adult show. 🙂
Bob's Burgers, the show's first few episodes had that type of edge that's expected from Fox entertainment, but is very down to earth and keeps the optimistic and wit through the seasons. And sweet song numbers.
King of the Hill is a perfect example of a cartoon that's appreciated so much more as an adult. I also changed the channel typically when it came on as a kid, but watching it as an adult, it's so much funnier and all the jokes really hit home in the down-to-earth way that makes it so great.
I feel like another show that I could say is specifically adult is midnight gospel since it talks and dives into a lot of concepts and ideas that a kid wouldn't understand and heck even a lot of adults wouldn't understand.
Great shows: Moral Orel, Fired on Mars has potential, Venture Bros. Black Lagoon. If you like that every day line, you might love Millennium Actress or Trailer Park Boys. Time and what you're there for is a trip.
I started watching Bojack when I was 17 and became a special interest for me! I watched Moral Orel RIGHT before its resurgence. While I could see a kid liking the first season, as it goes on, it's very much about the adults around the protagonist.
I wasn’t allowed to watch the simpsons as a child. i was only allowed to watch the movie when I went to visit my cousin and a couple classic episodes at a friends house as a kid. I now have seen every Simpsons episode prior to the current season. The “edgy” factor comes from the fact that many such as myself weren’t allowed to consume it as a child. Similarly to how many feel about South Park.
To further your point: I didn’t grow up watching South Park because it was one of the few shows my mom didn’t want me watching, and I only saw my first episode a few years ago (tho I’ve seen clips) and I didn’t at all get the appeal. It feels very middle school humor to me.
I don’t think it is to be honest. It only got a season or two even dubbed there. I would be surprised if your average Japanese person knows the show at all.

Not all of them. Bojack Horseman for example is one of the best animated series of all time, with depth, great humor and respect for its darker moments. It potrays depression as it is in real life and it also covers many other topics. Bojack is the best written character of all time and not only him is greatly written because PC or Dyane are too awsome characters.
Your opinion on South Park makes it sound like you only watched the first two seasons (which *was* mostly just random crude humor for the sake of shock value just like you described it). South Park has 26 seasons, and seasons 3-26 are objectively the most accurate satire of all time. Satire is BY FAR the most mature form of comedy that exists since it’s the only form that has overarching societal value beyond just making people laugh and feel good. Every single episode of the show from seasons 3-26 was based on a modern social topic and accurately mocked the stupidity of real-life people and real-life phenomena, which makes its viewers think more critically and have more self-awareness rather than blindly subscribing to the arbitrary ethnocentric ignorance of the social groups that they belong to

I remember being a kid watching Beavis and Butthead try really hard to impress mean adults like Todd and stuff like Eon Flux and The Head before South Park showcased little foul-mouthed dweebs that never dealt with real adult stuff at the time.
i wouldn't call Bojack the perfect adult cartoon, nor is it the best example, it's just slightly above average enough to stand out..
it's good, not bad at all, but slightly above average, nothing more..
No
Adults cartoons are bad. Immature and poorly thought out and made
Not all of them. Bojack Horseman for example is one of the best animated series of all time, with depth, great humor and respect for its darker moments. It potrays depression as it is in real life and it also covers many other topics. Bojack is the best written character of all time and not only him is greatly written because PC or Dyane are too awsome characters.
bojack? primal? king of the hill?
