Probably the worst kinda dried up industrial variants from the local grocery and served cold. Shoulda been fresh made carelian pastrys warm from the oven. The proper way. I'm not blaming Gordon for being honest, I blame the reporter who should be ashamed for the way she presented finnish delicacies. I just made carelian pies last weekend myself. Easy and delicious when selfmade, fresh and warm.
I'm not Finnish by blood, but I've had all of these things, and I like them, except for leipäjuusto. It's the squeakiness that I don't like. I've even made my own karjalanpiirakka with munavoi and mämmi. All good stuff. Sure mämmi is a bit strange for most people, but it's pretty good. I've made other Finnish dishes and I always enjoy them because they're simple and good. My Finnish colleagues and friends have adopted me.
Everyone seem to freak the hell out when it comes to eating mämmi. I forgot what the channel was called, but kids were given mämmi to try and majority refused to eat it just because how the mämmi looks.
There is leipäjuusto and then there is leipäjuusto. This thing here was super thick and by the looks of it not heated up. A thinner variant that's not all dried up (my personal favourite Maakerkelän Leipäjuusto) that has been just recently heated up on a pan (get it sizzling a bit, get a bit of colour), served with cloudberries and vanilla sauce or ice cream... Very different from what was shown here. It's not as squeky as in here and very tasty. It is still a bit rubbery, but soft.
Olisivat tarjonneet Gordon Ramseylle esimerkiksi Karjalanpaistia tai joulukinkkua niin olisi ehkä saattanut tykätä, en tajuu miks piti antaa mämmiä, leipäjuustoa ja jotain kaupan karjalanpiirakoita. Nyt meillä on huonoa ruokaa Gordonin mielestä. 😅
Looks like Gordon can only eat burgers, fries and steaks… he’s so boring about finnish cuisine but at the same time he likes indian cuisine. In my personal opinion finnish cuisine is one of the best! next to italian, japanese cuisine.

It's not about pickiness, it's facts. Make him a proper karelian pie and don't serve him some random storage food from a store, my karelian grandmom would be ashamed. Mämmi is questionable at least. Ramsay' has done a lot of episodes of Finland and he's been cooking with the best chefs of Finland (Kim Mikkola). He's a brutal honest person, there is no way around it. He's a three micheling's star restaurant owner and a former (if not a current) head chef, so he's not going to please you without an effort. It's not personal, we can't act like we are short of food, we can be picky, at least what comes to food reviews. If food ends, then fine, it still can be shit but we are eating it, right? The main point is that let's not act like we are stupid. Well, safe to say, I don't like cheecebread either.
@@rks8820 Agree it's a bit of a joke now, but there's obviously a lot of an unic ingredients to be used, kinda, so there's some potential. But at the same time, "we" must do good with our own ingredients and specialize with that if we want to have own special known cuisine.
Tuo oli hyvä' lopussa että on "viisi suomalaista kokkia palkollisina eikä ole koskaan puhuneet näistä ruoista." At the end of this clip Gordon Ramsay says he has five Finnish cooks in his restaurants and none of them ever talked about of these dishes, and Ramsay has a clear clue...

This only goes to show that *ONE* chef doesn't decide what's good or not, especially if he's not open to try new dishes. I have watched his "beautiful grilled cheese bread" videos as well, where he burns the bread over an open fire and isn't even capable of melting the "fancy" cheese he chose himself. While I somewhat admire his expertise on some foods, he is literally a doofus on others.

I do like karjalan piirakoita, mämmi but only drowned in vanilla sauce, hernekeittoa but not after the bug incident, lohikeittoa. Most Finnish food is very depressing. No tämäpä. Kaikki kaupan valmis paska on juuri sitä, paskaa. Varsinkin Gordonin suussa.

Cloudberry seeds are kind of hardy and might feel like glass shatters or sharp plastic objectives. Otherways, cloudberry is the beauyty of berries.
