This was the golden age of GW, for me - Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer Quest and Necromunda 1995. Everything felt so new and exciting, the worlds, the models, the hobby. I remember going into GWs when I was a 10 year old and staring in awe at the models in the display cases, spending hours looking at blister packs on the wall, sitting down with the staff and them showing you how to paint a goblin. It's pure nostalgia and it can't be beaten. This game is so important to so many people, thank you for giving it the love and attention it deserves!
Your original WHQ series is like comfort food. No lie, I put it on sometimes just as background noise while I'm working and need some inspiration. Hell, it inspired me to make my own print-and-play copy of the game and share it with a friend who's never played it, and he loves it too! We just survived our first adventure together last week and we'll be rolling some travel hazards and heading to our first settlement next week! Thanks to you and Littlemonk!
Here is some WHQ trivia. The heroes on the back of the box are actually Talisman heroes. Apparently the actual heroes weren't ready for the shot in time.
34:18 Shadows over Brimstone is the only other product that I know of with a similar book in it's core box, although they certainly didn't manage to match it in volume. I think we don't see such a huge adventure book anywhere else is because GW was in a unique position of having a huge range of WHFB miniatures already available that they wanted to encourage you to add to your base game so they wrote rules for all of it right there in the box, while every newer dungeon crawl creates expansion content afterward and it's packaged specifically for their game.
It’s worth mentioning that Games-Workshop’s current version of Blood Bowls Dungeon Bowl includes cardboard tiles that are directly inspired by the Warhammer quest tiles. They aren’t all in the box, but it could be an option for someone looking to get components to make their own version of Warhammer Quest.
Love a good WHQ vid dude, great stuff and i still revisit that first series you did! I got (and found thanks to that very series) the littleMonk cards ! It's a funny thing to want and own something not so rare but so expensive these days. As one who cobbled together bits and pieces for all over I have the base now and working towards the rest
One of the things I love & realized about Kingdom Death: Monster is that it’s essentially as Roguelike Campaign Game. I love roguelikes. I hate campaign games. But one of the most brilliant things Adam Poots did in the design is focus on an emergent narrative, instead of a scripted story. This is a core tenant of the game. And I think there is some overlap here on the first point on your list for Warhammer Quest. The world is defined, but the individual stories of the survivors and settlement are not. In contrast, I could never pull the trigger and pledge for either ISS Vanguard or Oathsworn. Those are probably two of the most highly scripted, new games to hit the market, and I just feel like that style of game is better suited for a video game. I’ve been thinking about KDM a lot lately and it’s still the only campaign game in my collection, largely for this reason. I’ve never played WHQ. 😅
I agree completely, and recommend looking into Dungeon Universalis and Shadows of Brimstone. Emergent narrative is what makes these games seem closer to a TTRPG, where you create the story in your head. Brilliant stuff, I wish kingdom death monster was a bit less punishing but it is amazing :)
I think I'd really love the gameplay of KDM, but the setting creates so much dissonance for me. It's like Evil Dead meets body horror, and then it tries to use overtones to make the obviously comedic setting dramatic and grim. If your game is going to have characters revel in vomit and rip off monster balls, then the overall tones need to be campy and comical.
I'd say it's the opposite. It's largely a dark fantasy and horror setting, with over tones of camp and comedy. Snatching the monster's private parts is far from the majority focus of the game or its tone for example. Either way, one man's dissonance is another man's complex harmony. It strikes the perfect chord for me. I'd even go so far as to argue that having both overtones and undertones match up is largely more boring, predictable, and monochromatic. Not to mention there is probably a large number of games that do that, but very few that take a chance with a unique blend of tones.
@@VaultBoy13 The theme and tone of KDM makes a lot more sense when you find out that Poots is a self-described weeb. KDM cover a wide spectrum of anime. Including sexy/naughty anime, brutal/gory anime, and comedic/cutsie anime. It’s all there. You just have to put it in the context of the creator.
I just checked Ebay for prices, just for fun, and I've found a copy for 4.500 sterling pounds....... Although they have some of my all time favourite games ever. I remember with nostalgia very good times playing Mordheim or Gorka Morka. Mi DIY version with house rules doesnt have Roll to Resolve, but added a lot of randomness outside that in order to keep the drama!! Thanks for the video!! excited to see the series :)

@@Mechanicoid I thought I finally got it to post... but it disappeared again. Its on board game geek in the forums. I dont know whats going on this is like the 5th time Ive tried to reply.
Nice vid! Would Cursed City be something completely different, or are they very similar? Would be cool if it would be possible to access a similar game on today’s market 🙂 (sry if you talk about this in the vid already - I’ve listened one third in so far).
This hits right on the head why Warhammer Quest is amazing. I never could figure out why I was unsatisfied with other games, passive story was the problem
Yes this is especially true for Cursed City. Amazing style, amazing miniatures and lore and then you just go 80% of the time on some boring grind missions without any story. Also gearing up finding loot feels much worse in Cursed City compared to the original. Such a missed opportunity since I like the fast paste action CC has.
Cursed City has more story than this. And the original was all about the grind. Less written story is a good thing. I want to be in control of the story.
I managed to buy the original Warhammer Quest Full Box at a Used Game Auction for only around $125 a few years back. So glad I jumped on that, still play with Littlemonk's additions to this day. Even thought of making some custom Warriors and Monsters.
Ive always been a little more attracted to Advanced HeroQuest due to my impression of the sprawling randomly generated dungeon aesthetic. I havent played either of these classics though.
The events between dungeons were absolutely one of my favourite parts of the game. Back when I was a kid playing this game, I LOVED the White Dwarf expansions - things like expanding the list of settlements to include a port with event tables that included getting press ganged and into fights with pirates. Amazing times!
Great video as always. I've been looking for my next big PnP project and I think this is it. I'm a bit late to the hobby and I was disappointed that this game isn't in print anymore. Now I'm going to go watch your old Warhammer Quest videos.
A copy of this base game and a bundle of miniatures was sold at a wargame club annual sale for NZ$150.00 to a very happy buyer who'd wanted it forever. It was a privilege to see him just after finding it engulfed in cling film, fantastic. Cheers
For me it's always been the flexibility of the game. Play a throw away quest, or delve deeper into a full RPG campaign. Then create your own content based on your needs.
Daniel, Thank you for these deep dives. This game absolutely deserves this attention to detail. I really would love if you keep this series going. Find ways to focus on specific aspects line characters and their developments at later levels etc. Also, I’m kind of stuck on building up my monster minis. Can you please please do series on how to build metal armies. Like what we need and how many? You have a good talent for what you do. 💪🏼
My long deep dive is already done. There’s a playlist on the channel. I don’t use many metal minis. I just use a lot of proxies from various games lies Zombicide, and Massive Darkness.
@@TheDungeonDive yeah I know. I watched them all many times lol. I was just suggesting to keep this series alive ☺️. I don’t want it to stop. You’re our only hope.
Thanks for the Darklight shoutout :) I agree on your points in regards to how very few games manages to do what WHQ95 did, but there is a reason for it I believe, and one of them being that WHQ at heart is a story generator based within the Warhammer world which by default it is dear/unique to most people, beside the obvious nostalgia which makes it extra special. The game did not concern itself with fairness, simplicity or balance, and in some situations it pretty much trolled the players I believe but THAT was its strength. Losing 2 months of progress from a bad level up roll while playing Chaos Warrior is infuriating but it makes for great story telling and a good laugh, no game could get away with this today if you tried, and this is why there cannot be another WHQ. That said, this is what I got from WHQ; a wonderful story generator but everybody's reasons could be different. With my next project (Animarium) I am trying to combine the deadly, campaign scope of WHQ95, with the snappy, quick action of modern WHQ. It is a very difficult challenge but I have made enough progress to be confident it can be done and I hope to see you there once it releases!
I grew up with Warhammer Quest and your review is 100% spot-on! I love many things about it but if I were to play a dungeon crawl boardgame today, I would go for Descent (1st edition). Descent just has a super fun combat system whereas WHQ doesn't, but in Descent I miss the co-operative feel and the immersive quality of travelling between dungeons, going to shops, meeting people in a tavern, etc. I also don't understand why other games didn't copy this feature more from the original Warhammer Quest.
I played Descent for quite a long time. I unfortunately gravitated away from 1 vs Many games, and play only solo / co-op games these days. I wish Descent also had more stuff to do beyond combat, but the combat and items are pretty cool!
@@TheDungeonDive I agree with all of that. Warhammer Quest is also a lot more aesthetically pleasing to me than Descent. But yeah, I love the combat in Descent, and I think later on it inspired the 3rd edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, which I love to bits (though I know many fans hated it).
Eventually I'm going to do a deep dive series into WFRP3e. I have almost everything for it, and I think it would actually lend itself well to solo play because of how the dice help tell stories.
I’m hungrily absorbing all these elements. I’m looking at Warhammer Quest, and Advanced Heroquest… I’m currently developing my own board game based off of hero quest. is purely for personal use, it started as a project that I could then have a fun activity to do with my boys, that we would all enjoy, as an alternative to them simply getting into video games. I must say … It is interesting designing a Board game as you begin to realise it’s very layered, and nuanced, it’s not an easy thing. Trying to develop the combat. But as I was playtesting, you begin to feel like something is missing from the experience. And it’s what you’re talking about is all the other things that surround the combat that give and life to and flesh out the experience ….
A couple more videos and I'm definitely printing and putting together a copy of this game... Your channel is bad influence... 😁 Recently bought the new kickstarter version of Dungeon Universalis (should arrive later next year)... Is it a valid replacement for Warhammer Quest or should I give WQ a try?
Got my copy this week, I forgot about this second review series so thanks for that. (Binging everything WHQ right now.) My first two games I got my head kicked in. TPK in first room. Then, TPK in second room. Seriously thought, "Uh oh.. I don't think I like this game." But each time I have died I have felt a strong desire to try again, and each time I learned a nuance that I had overlooked. IE; I forgot about Death Blow in my first game, there's just no way to win without it. So I have played four games now and 'won' some. I am really liking it. There's something about it... but also, I could really see now that if there was no RPG book, this game would die real quick, so looking forward to getting into 'the real game' soon. Going to play a couple more times just the out of the box content though because I think I am still missing just a couple tiny nuances. (But it's so simple, theres really not a whole lot to miss.) Long story short, I'm having a blast. Thanks for everything you do.
@@TheDungeonDive Its going to be such a long road through the game as is, with the two GW expansions, printing cards, sourcing minis. Hopefully, I will make it to Hall of the Hag Queen at the least. But it will be years I imagine.
@@TheDungeonDive Reading through the Tougher Monsters Level 1 chart in the RPG book. I am blown away by the depth and all the additional monster aspects. Definitely one of the most influential dungeon crawlers of all time. That it still compares favourably to many games today is a testament to its longevity and enduring popularity. I’d say there were maybe 5-6 games tops that I would hand-to-heart say were better dungeon crawlers.
I love these games. I wish I didn't have to spend a whole paycheck or more to pick them up :D Right now I have The Silver Tower, Blackstone Fortress, and Cursed City.
I hear that. It's one of the reasons why I've been gravitating more towards smaller / indie games these days. Even non-OOP games are over $120 these days.
(Rambling post) Very interesting video (haven't watched the earlier ones). It's that RPG book which sets it apart imo, incredible value for money package ,(albeit, as you remark, likely a little baffling for some of the original purchasers). The only thing which seems lacking is a map, although I think i saw one in the book. Fascinating to see how some elements have been taken forward into contemporary systems - the likes of DUN, the forthcoming League of Dungeoneers, S&S and so forth, albeit these games all have significant differences from this and from each other. I doubt there is a better system than Shadows of Brimstone for town events etc but, without investing in monsters and expansions, I find the base game tedious. Interesting too that there are dead ends and ways to fail other than team wipeout, I wish more games were like this.
i was considering getting a copy of this or Advanced Heroquest. I went for AHQ - purely for the solo rules. Its a shame AHQ failed. You get so much more in the box with this one and the presentation is so much better.
Yep! I actually view AHQ as an expansion for HeroQuest. None of the stuff even shown on the AHQ box art is in the game! Probably GW’s word boxed board game in terms of stuff. Good rule system though.
@@TheDungeonDive ive not completely read through the rule book but seems very easy to adapt. One grumble is the tiles are smaller than the charictor bases! An extra 1/8 inch or 2mm would make a huge difference to it
WHQ is the absolute best dungeon crawler ever created. The amount of content that came with it, and that you could get for it officially, and now-a-days unofficially, is SOOOooooo much, and would have taken so much dedication and man-hours to create and playtest...nothing comes close to it. I'm also incredibly surprised it hasn't had someone come along and make something very similar...I'm also unbelievably surprised (and down-hearted) that one of the really good sculptors hasn't come along and sculpted all the Hero minis and put them up on My Mini Factory for sale...
@@jamesmit7914 Does Shadows of Brimstone and Darklight come with a game that you can play as a fully co-op or blow out to a full-blown RPG system with a game master...all in the same core box set?
There are all kinds of people who have made DIY versions using various files and stuff. I mention that in the first 5 minutes of the video, and will touch upon it again in the 3rd video in this series. A lot of the stuff I have is DIY / printed / unofficial.
I totally disagree with you. Players who do love Mage Knigth and stuff like that with a lot of player agency can love Sob or WhQ and their randomness. These ones translate so well the chaos of their universe that I can't imagine a better tool to make me feel the danger and the surprises of such adventures. I own MK & SoB, Ido love both. Sorry for my english I'm french.😁
It is crazy that they just dont re-release the original game. I never got to play and only played BSF which I really enjoyed, but being a hero quest fan, would loved to have play the original WHQ game. Though GW released now they’d probably mess it up and it would probably cost £180.
I love this series. I often see League of Dungeoneering compared to this game. What is your opinion on this comparison? I never played WQ'95, but absolutely love Dungeonerring.
New to this game. Wondering, when starting a new campaign, when do you switch from the base game system to the advanced rules? I tried starting with the advanced rules and lost 6 times in a row. Some people seem to play the out of box game for a few rounds, with settlement events in between, then integrate the advanced monster tables. Im trying to feel it out but dont want to crash and burn.
I would play a couple of quests from the Adventure Book and then once you have some L1-2 warriors with a decent amount of treasure and equipment you should get a GM to play through Death Below Kharak Azghal from the Roleplay Book. If you want to house rule anything out of the game to make it easier then permitting a re-roll of 1’s for the warriors to hit will make it a lot better.
I noted a game store web site selling a WarHammer Quest card game for around $30. Is this related in any way to this WarHammer Quest game? By the way, when are you planning to interview GeekGamers. Should be interesting the topics you will talk about!
If you're playing campaign, you're supposed to use the tables. They're more difficult. The cards are only supposed to be used for one-off games at level 0.
I just use those when I'm playing those expansion quests. There aren't really rules for any of the things you're asking. Just play how you have the most fun!
@@TheDungeonDive thank you buddy. I’m still hoping you do another AHQ run. That one didn’t give you any good rolls lol. But it’s cool the game allows that to happen.
What made WHQ such a great game was a complete lack of ambiguity. There are no hieroglyphic dice to memorise, no iconography replacing simple words from the published language. Everything is D6 based and uses a couple of charts; working out damage is a simple bit of maths instead of ambiguous ‘successes’. Like all great RPG systems it is flexible enough to either play as a simple one-off board game using the cards or as a lengthy campaign lasting years if you like. The rules never get in the way of the game.
No, sorry. Not here to share files. That would become a full time job. Check out the WHQ fan page on FB for the best most up to date info (which also contains info on joining LM’s forum!). I found all of my stuff there and just using google. I’ll also be sharing more resources in part three of this series!
@@TheDungeonDive DUN is basically a game system with a campaign attached to it -- if you ignored the narrative and added a few random tables for laying tiles and monsters appearing it could serve nicely as a WHQ+, I think. The original still has charm though.
If you absolutely must buy one then don't pay the stupid B.I.N prices on Ebay, wait for an auction with a reasonable starting bid and if you're lucky you can get a complete or almost complete set for considerably lower (still expensive though) The thing to remember is that for the most part, individual components for this game aren't actually that expensive so buying a cheap job lot then adding the missing bits later is the way to go. The only parts of the main set that really run particularly high prices (last I checked) are the manuals and these are the easiest to replicate by just printing them off from the easily found files online.
This is the game I always wanted and I would have been ok to pay more than its worth. But two things always prevented me from that: 1) I want it in French and there is a French version...but only for the core game, which is a shame. 2) The game feels "incomplete" in a way that the adventure book has many monsters the core game doesn't provide and when I look at the extra minis that were available back then, they are either nowhere to be found or way too expansive nowadays. As a collector, I'm ok to pay more than necessary and get everything eventually but I won't pay insane prices to just get some of it (or be forced to proxy some stuff). It feels like a fool's errant. In a way, it feels like KDM: whatever you do and no matter how much you pay, you never get to get it all and never will. My dream would be that some company gets the rights and does it all, with all the minis, without touching the art. It would have been unthinkable years ago but in the era of over bloated KS's, it's very doable. The golden age of KS is about to be over but there is still a small window.

Don't have it yet and need to play it a lot more before I can really say. I only got to spend a couple of days with the prototype. I think it's going to be a different experience though because it's more about a narrative campaign, like Dungeon Universalis, and not just a series of random quests.

It definitely had a campaign from what I’ve seen. But like I said my exposure was limited and I only really know what other backers know of how the game is shaping up! I haven’t followed any updates at all since backing it.
Any possible follow up /recreation/ commercial revival of warhammer quest has to go through GW who.s the owner of the IP. There.s absolutely no possible way they don.t change it to a money milking horro today, seeing what they are doing with their « standard » game lines
The very first product I bought from Warhammer that I was angry and disappointed with was Warhammer quest Silver Tower. As a Die hard 95 fan, I was so underwhelmed by the content, progression, character, just everything! 95 is king
Its maybe the most shallow game I've ever bought and the 3 first levels were exactly the same with no end game pay off. It had maybe 1/50th of the content WHQ95 had and I'm surprised to hear you say that after calling WHQ95 the gold standard. I am happy you enjoyed it tho seriously
Silver Tower is a masterclass in presentation, with a well written, direct narrative that is laser focused on a single, small story. It also incorporates dice placement mini games, charades, and weird little 4th wall breaking elements that I love. I also love the dice placement / action selection mechanism. I think it's a perfect game.
@@TheDungeonDive I I'm happy you love all those things but it's just way too of a casual experience for me to enjoy it. Nice vid! Would Cursed City be something completely different, or are they very similar? Would be cool if it would be possible to access a similar game on today’s market 🙂 (sry if you talk about this in the vid already - I’ve listened one third in so far).
yay warhammer quest 95!!
Oh man. My friends and I loved this game back in high school! I always played as the Chaos Warrior. The randomness was fun.
This hits right on the head why Warhammer Quest is amazing. I never could figure out why I was unsatisfied with other games, passive story was the problem
And yet, for some reason, that's what designers keep giving us. I don't get it.
Great video! Love getting more of your perspective on classics like Quest!
I managed to buy the original Warhammer Quest Full Box at a Used Game Auction for only around $125 a few years back. So glad I jumped on that, still play with Littlemonk's additions to this day. Even thought of making some custom Warriors and Monsters.
I agree. A solid game - perfectly realised.
Ive always been a little more attracted to Advanced HeroQuest due to my impression of the sprawling randomly generated dungeon aesthetic. I havent played either of these classics though.
You can mitigate that problem a lot by employing switchback corridors.
The events between dungeons were absolutely one of my favourite parts of the game. Back when I was a kid playing this game, I LOVED the White Dwarf expansions - things like expanding the list of settlements to include a port with event tables that included getting press ganged and into fights with pirates. Amazing times!
Yes!! More WHQ from the Dungeon Dive. Thank you.
Cheers
That's great! Lucky guy. :)
For me it's always been the flexibility of the game. Play a throw away quest, or delve deeper into a full RPG campaign. Then create your own content based on your needs.
Yeah. I think this has to do with how simplistic the rules are.
Daniel,
Thank you for these deep dives.

Ah! Thanks! :)
Thanks for the Darklight shoutout :)
I agree on your points in regards to how very few games manages to do what WHQ95 did, but there is a reason for it I believe, and one of them being that WHQ at heart is a story generator based within the Warhammer world which by default it is dear/unique to most people, beside the obvious nostalgia which makes it extra special.
Can’t wait to see what you have designed!
I’m looking at Warhammer Quest, and Advanced Heroquest…
I’m currently developing my own board game based off of hero quest. is purely for personal use, it started as a project that I could then have a fun activity to do with my boys, that we would all enjoy, as an alternative to them simply getting into video games.
Love the content, dude. It’s all good stuff!
DUN is not a WHQ replacement. Very different kind of game. Only Shadows of Brimstone really comes close to replacing WHQ.
Thanks for the cool video. Really good perspective on the game and the genre this game shaped :)
Great video, thanks !
Glad you liked it!
(But it's so simple, theres really not a whole lot to miss.)
Long story short, I'm having a blast. Thanks for everything you do.
Sure thing! Are you going to dive into a lot of the fan-created content?
@@TheDungeonDive Its going to be such a long road through the game as is, with the two GW expansions, printing cards, sourcing minis. Hopefully, I will make it to Hall of the Hag Queen at the least. But it will be years I imagine.
@@TheDungeonDive Reading through the Tougher Monsters Level 1 chart in the RPG book. I am blown away by the depth and all the additional monster aspects. I finally know what you meant when you praised the book so much. This is epic just reading in prep for my first 'proper' game. So much joy, not since I got HeroQuest in 1991 and this surpasses.
It puts a lot of others in start perspective for not offering as much as this old-ass game!
@@TheDungeonDive Lol. Yeah, I think I am starting to GET IT. I really think that this will help me gauge and even appreciate my other favorite games even more. Sometimes less is more. Sometimes more is more but it needs to be elegantly executed. It will be a different animal once I actually take the rules to the table.
But this is the kind of book I could read for hours just for fun, and that's what I am doing right now.
Daniel, have you done a review or feature on Warhammer Quest: Cursed City yet? It’s very much a mixed bag for me.

Definitely one of the most influential dungeon crawlers of all time. That it still compares favourably to many games today is a testament to its longevity and enduring popularity. I’d say there were maybe 5-6 games tops that I would hand-to-heart say were better dungeon crawlers.
I think there are a couple that are better, but none that offer the scope. What are yours?
One of these days I'll find a 120% complete all-all-in, not a single thing officially released missing, not a single damaged component.
I love these games. I wish I didn't have to spend a whole paycheck or more to pick them up :D
Right now I have The Silver Tower, Blackstone Fortress, and Cursed City.
Yes! Failing quests without TPK is a good thing.
How about dungeon universalis.
That game gives you a simular style especially when we add in the additional campaigns.
It’s focused on a narrative campaign and doesn’t have random dungeons.
i was considering getting a copy of this or Advanced Heroquest.
They tried with things like Descent and a few others but you're absolutely right - none come close.
Aren’t Shadows of Brimstone and Darklight Momento Mori extremely similar in terms of mechanics?
@@jamesmit7914 Yes. They are basically clones, except for the theme and some upgraded mechanics. But the core concept is exactly the same.
Yep. I discuss that in the video.
@@jamesmit7914 Does Shadows of Brimstone and Darklight come with a game that you can play as a fully co-op or blow out to a full-blown RPG system with a game master...all in the same core box set?
Great video of a great game! Wish I could get it but I only have one kidney left...
Just make your own!
@@TheDungeonDive What do you mean?
Your English is fine. Thanks for the comment.
have to agree. mage knight is one of my favorite games. it and warhammer quest are both compelling in very different ways
It is crazy that they just dont re-release the original game. I never got to play and only played BSF which I really enjoyed, but being a hero quest fan, would loved to have play the original WHQ game. Though GW released now they’d probably mess it up and it would probably cost £180.
With inflation, $180 would be about right.
I love this series. I often see League of Dungeoneering compared to this game. What is your opinion on this comparison? I never played WQ'95, but absolutely love Dungeonerring.
I've got like 4 hours of videos on the channel for LOD. :)

I usually start with advanced rules but just use the basic monsters for a few games.
Thematically related but very different game. Cool game though.
If they reissued this game as a Kickstarter, they would make a killing.
Hey Daniel,
Is there any pros or cons playing off the monster table vs the cards? I jist don’t see the goblin arches on the RPG monster table.
If you're playing campaign, you're supposed to use the tables. They're more difficult. The cards are only supposed to be used for one-off games at level 0.
@@TheDungeonDive perfect. Thank you 🙏🏽. Roll tables are more fun to me.
@@TheDungeonDive How do you add ones from the expansions etc? Example Gubbinz the jester.
I own a lot of Shadows of Brimstone and play it often. Should I still get WH: Quest? I understand they're very similar
I would not, unless you’re prepared to spend a lot of money expanding WHQ. SOB is close enough.
@@TheDungeonDive would you say it's better to invest in silver tower then
ST is very different. Hard to say. It’s a smaller, more limited experience. I love it, but it’s a very unique game.
I've never played WH Quest, but it sounds very similar to Five Leagues From The Borderlands.
There is definitely some WHQ DNA in 5L.
Are there any fan made Skaven expansions, and bretonnia kingdom?
Skaven, yes.
@@TheDungeonDive can you send me the Skaven WD, or scenario, or fan film?
No, sorry. Not here to share files. That would become a full time job. Check out the WHQ fan page on FB for the best most up to date info (which also contains info on joining LM’s forum!). I found all of my stuff there and just using google. I’ll also be sharing more resources in part three of this series!
Surprised you didn't mention DUN! You could easily take all of its content and make a WHQ
DUN is a narrative campaign and doesn't have random dungeon exploration. It's a very different kind of game.
@@TheDungeonDive DUN is basically a game system with a campaign attached to it -- if you ignored the narrative and added a few random tables for laying tiles and monsters appearing it could serve nicely as a WHQ+, I think. The original still has charm though.
Oh yeah - the possibilities in DUN are great, and it's a great system. Just out of the box it offers up a very different kind of experience.
If you absolutely must buy one then don't pay the stupid B.I.N prices on Ebay, wait for an auction with a reasonable starting bid and if you're lucky you can get a complete or almost complete set for considerably lower (still expensive though)
The thing to remember is that for the most part, individual components for this game aren't actually that expensive so buying a cheap job lot then adding the missing bits later is the way to go.
The only parts of the main set that really run particularly high prices (last I checked) are the manuals and these are the easiest to replicate by just printing them off from the easily found files online.
The Dwarf took the photo 😂
Haha! Love it.
This is the game I always wanted and I would have been ok to pay more than its worth.
But two things always prevented me from that:
1) I want it in French and there is a French version...but only for the core game, which is a shame.
I just use proxies for 90% of the minis. There’s absolutely no reason to own everything.
@@TheDungeonDive I totally get it. I just hate proxying and printing stuff. I like to play the game with the pieces and boards that are made for it. It’s the OCD talking but hey, board gamers all have their « thing » ;-)
Take care. I watch your stuff for quite a while and I love the old school / vintage approach of your videos. You never challenge my 48 years old and I thank you for that.
You can buy all of KDM right now...if you have 4 grand laying around that is... 😂
@@memitim171 I have pledged it all during the KS. Even though, there are still tons of stuff with some gameplay available through the store. But it's impossible to keep up with the amount of content. So much that I gave up. it's not worth it.
I always knew it is not necessary but as a collector, it felt like to was achievable, but it's not.
@@lexmachina8961 I didn't get the unspeakable box, it's the price of a full game so I didn't see the value there and there's already a ton of stuff in the unknowable box, I plan to get everything else though, I'll just get season 4 discounted at retail.
I see Cursed City in the back, have you re-visit CC?
Nope. Still need to assemble minis.
@@TheDungeonDive you can play it with tokens in place of the miniatures if you like… I followed the instructions in this video and now have tokens for Blackstone Fortress, Silver Tower and Cursed City. I’d prefer to play with the minis of course, but I am very slow at assembling them, so these work in the meantime. ruclips.net/video/XxrkAEW33u0/видео.html
… and reviewing the video I linked, he also points out another creator who made tokens for the entire bestiary from WHQ ‘95…. I’d forgotten I’d downloaded those as well. :-)
Sorry if you mentioned it, but I thought League of Dungeoneers was really supposed to be a spiritual successor to WHQ. Have you taken a look at that game on your channel yet?
NM, I see you covered it in a video already. Didn't hear you mention it in this video though.
Don't have it yet and need to play it a lot more before I can really say. I only got to spend a couple of days with the prototype. I think it's going to be a different experience though because it's more about a narrative campaign, like Dungeon Universalis, and not just a series of random quests.
Really? I did not know that (and I'm a backer of the current kickstarter). That is going to be a shame if they focus too heavily on narrative missions.
Hope that is not the case.
It definitely had a campaign from what I’ve seen. But like I said my exposure was limited and I only really know what other backers know of how the game is shaping up! I haven’t followed any updates at all since backing it.
The dungeons have random layouts in LOD. So that’s cool.
Ill add this to my spank bank
Any possible follow up /recreation/ commercial revival of warhammer quest has to go through GW who.s the owner of the IP.
There.s absolutely no possible way they don.t change it to a money milking horro today, seeing what they are doing with their « standard » game lines
Yeah. Not really the subject of my coverage.
If this is still the gold standard, why is it not being reprinted?
Ask GW. I have nothing to do what that business. I’m just a guy who likes things.
I am not blaming you. I would love to see it reprinted. I would buy one.
The Karak Quest in the back of the roleplay book is not solo playable? Or can it be played without a GM?
It's not designed for solo play - you will spoil the secrets / progression. But nothing is stopping you from doing so.
The very first product I bought from Warhammer that I was angry and disappointed with was Warhammer quest Silver Tower. As a Die hard 95 fan, I was so underwhelmed by the content, progression, character, just everything! 95 is king
I actually like Silver Tower more. It’s ranked higher on my top 10. I think it’s a masterpiece.
@@TheDungeonDive I
I'm happy you love all those things but it's just way too of a casual experience for me to enjoy it. WHQ95 encourages custom campaigns and a lot of sandboxing with more in depth mechanics that the new line cant offer imo. Little monk is a great example of how expansive and creative WHQ95 allows you to be. I will admit that the tiles are cool in SIlver tower and I incorporate them in to me WHQ95 games
