- Today was the day I got my 2002 Volkswagen Golf remapped to "Stage-2" at TRP Performance. It was a very sceptical day, I wasn't sure it would even be able to be mapped.

What turbo are you running?
304 at 3.5k is bad, just don't launch it. He should have lowered it to 280 max but you sign the form and take the chance.

BWTV I booked my R-tech remapping session today and understand why you went else where.. Earliest I could book was 7th September. O well I guess I'll be waiting.. till then.. The smoking could be your turbo sills slightly leaking after upping the boost.. I'm glad I put a new ko4 001 on mine now.

Forget that your going there. Good result especially with the torque it’s massive. When you told me about the noise and loss of power I knew it was just a pipe popped off it’s a common vag thing with petrols and diesels I had the same issue with my pd130 after mapping

300lb ft, that is impressive!! Smoke could be numerous things mate, so check thoroughly for what it is that’s really causing it, hoping its nothing too serious 👍🏼
Thanks, wasn’t a bad guess but glad you finally got it done. Don’t worry about the figures now and have a look at what needs done then go back for the final map. But I would ask for a more ‘linear map’ than that. Peak power comes in and then it soon drops off.

Phill at his best again. Will get mine done sooon. Good luck mate. Best thing to do with the metal pipe is get it beaded. That will stop it from popping off. Also it might be a weat pcv on the intake pipe that makes the engine smoke. Minor stuff.

Worth changing the pcv valve to see if it helps the smoke, they’re only a few quid and you mentioned that the pipes were knackered. 👍

Before attaching intercooler piping silicone bits, spray some hair spray on them, will hold them better

BWTV your welcome bud.. it worked a treat on my agu a few years back, I now have acquired another agu mk4 and seeing what you have done has inspired me to start modding this one.. p.s. all mk4 gti turbo' s have their quirks and issue's, just adds to the character of the car.

If ur gonna do anything major, i suggest instead of forging, swap the bottom end to the s3 bottoms but keep the head you got as it. Has better airflow than the 225 engine

Lambda is the Air fuel ratio the engine is running at. What's yours reading when it's making boost?
Still a decent result and decent good torque. Hope it is an easy fix and sorted out. How did you find TRP? WIll be having my hybrid mapped there soon as can get time off work

I have a seat Ibiza 1.8t fr with a revo-map, supersprint catback, pipercross airfilter and forge dumpvalve. It makes 220hp at the wheels.

You can push more power than 300ftlbs, but like you said, these motors don’t handle harsh curves, as long as it’s a smooth build up to power, you are fine
Did you have overrun mapped in and are you happy with the map as I'm having my Cupra mapped there in a couple of weeks
Mine smoking, only because I got a k03 turbo and it's mapped. So I got a bigger turbo k04..should hopefully hold the boost
Do you have a Ko3 or Ko3s? Price and recommendation for the mapping company?
What performance mods did you do to the car to reach 228?

What was it before the remap ?
You're right on the limit of torque there! Wouldn't worry though should be able to get more horsepower once it's nice and healthy, just had to replace my turbo on Tuesday there because the seals were starting to go, caused the smoke from mine, check you IC piping for oil :)

Before you think about building the engine, make sure you set aside money for a helical diff. Learn from my mistakes. I built mine on my Mk2, larger hybrid turbo ect. Made 310hp// 401lb-ft and chewed my gearbox up on the second pull.

Smoking under load like that is rings (blowby) or turbo seals.
Stem seals only blow smoke under vacuum (idling etc)
How is your catchcan ran? To atmosphere or to your inlet?
My stem seals have gone on my BAM -.- STINKS
Probably stem seals and chamber needs cleaning and steams seals replacing causing smoke

What does a mk4 golf gti 2.0 need for a remap was thinking of putting a short air intake on it a ko4 turbo kit with all hoses and inter cooler and a straight through exhaust will that be any good with out anything else fitted

Check boost sensor my car did same thing when u put on aftermarket intercooler lots of people forget to put it on aftermarket intercooler check it u will be surprised I had same problem
It's definitely plugged in, but could be leaking in not sure 🤔
Get some Mikalor clamps and spray a bit of hairspray on the silicone so it will stick to the pipework

Get yourself some decent pipe clamps on Ebay and get all the intercooler pipe edges rolled if they aren't already. They shouldn't come off again.. When you put the pipes back on lube them up with hair spray and tighten everything up and leave it for as long as possible for it all to dry..
Job done they'll never pop off again..
Hope you sort the smoking out.. I think 304ftlb was a bit too much.. 270-280ish is much safer..

You’re running the rods limits at around 320lb.. but there’s been known for rods to go at any point over 300lb depending the map.
Am I right in thinking the Golf’s fuel pump is only 3 bar?! Might be worth swapping in the Leon’s 4 bar fuel pump and go slight bigger injectors from the Leon as well.

Yooooooooooooooooo I want 200 bhp out my mk4 Jetta I just got a down pipe and Sai and pcv delete with a bov and short shifter I'mma just get if remapped with what I got cause is my daily and I don't want any issue but I am happy for u bro
Not as bad luck I got my car back yesterday but cylinder 2 was letting too much fuel past the piston so I have got the rebuilt my engine too typical Audi 👌🏻 and I just paid £1000 to get everything put right as I took it in to get mapped and one of the injectors was broken so I just told him to sort it out and he did and now the second cylinder is f*cked!

Black smoke is fuel related, air leak or fueling issue however many things can affect air and fuel, you need vagcom, get live data, fault codes and go from there. blue is oil related, but it looked black to me.
I miss my 1.8t golf, it was an awsome all rounder why the hell I sold it I'll never know. Full audi tt front suspension, Stage 2 with hybrid beach buggy turbo, 550cc bosch injectors, miltek full system 297bhp at r tech, pissed off a lot of cars that thought they were quicker

Ah yes, blowing boost pipes off. Been there too and thought the same! "Oh shit I've busted it... AH no just a pipe thank god!" - Don't know if yours will be the same as mine, VAG push in ones, I kept blowing mine off until I replaced them all with hard pipe, silicon hose bends and T-bolt clamps. But a decent result still though!

Also recall being told you can spray the inner lips of the hoses with hair spray to make fitting easier and also helps to seal the hose? I have no idea if it's true or not as I didn't try it!
I don't have much choice with these engines.
I was going to get my 1.9tdi done by these guys, new turbo, downpipe and clutch kit, but they tried to see me off by saying they would do the clutch and then do the turbo when it comes in (they wouldn't give me a date) and since I have not seen that turbo and clutch package on their website. I'm glad that they done some solid work for you thought and love the car, keep it up!

It's not 300 torque, i don't know the exact torgue number but it thought it was 300 hp before the rods start bending.
Mark Goudsblom around 300bhp and 300 Foot pound/ 400NM are the safe numbers,
Though people have pushed way higher and been safe,
Yet theres people that went way under there and still blew up.
Just maintain it good, and the block will handle pretty much everything u from on it ( on stock turbo )

Possible smoke could of been caused by loose intercooler piping, engine getting unfiltered air etc seems slight excessive but bro work on your car yourself man! Save money and learn!
I've done almost everything currently to the car myself, but taking the engine apart I'd rather leave to the experts 😂 could the smoke be caused by the loose pipe you recon? 🤔

Unmetered air will make the car run lean so no this is not the cause to the smoking. Excess oil is entering the chamber somewhere...
G Fresh surely thats a brief second before lambda picks it up and adjusts fuelling? Let me know, and i agree there must be something more

Fix it, sell it and buy a VR6 Bora 4motion. When you get the Bora, turbo it and tune it.
