    Good info, 👍🏻 Thank you
Not quite clear on tunings & string sets, though.
    Using 12-52s and substitute 12 for a 14 , you would tune for Open G then Capo2 for A.
Are you suggesting that you would you not use this set to also re- tune to Open D with E at Capo 2 ? Not sure why.
    Thanks

You’re welcome, I find that I can use the same string gauge for both open D and Open G tuning. They have a similar tension. Using the capo will lower the action slightly - that might be a good thing it depends. It’s not to say that you can’t use that same gauge for Open E and Open A tuning but that’s quite a bit of tension on the neck, I just find the capo an easier solution and it’s what Ry Cooder does. My preferred gauge for Open E and A is 11-49. There’s no real hard and fast rule here as all guitars are different and present other variables . Sometimes it’s trial and error
      Hope that helps ?

      That's great thanks 😊
Trial and error works for me, like you say there are many variables.

Hi, I've got a Guild SC antique burst semi hollow that I don't use much so I've decided to at least for the time being to set it up for slide. Of course it's easy enough to raise the action using the bridge saddles but I'm unsure what to do about the nut, The action is quite low so should I get a higher nut and if so what height above the 1st fret do you have on your slide or what would you recommend? Thanks.

A little hard to judge without seeing you play it …however heavier string gauge and weight of the slide might be worth considering - Open G and Open D tend to be slack coming from say a 10-46 gauge,
You could try popping a thin strip of cardboard under nut just to gauge this before you do something more permanent. But getting a nut cut to string gauge good idea
It can take some trial and error to find right combination. Part of this is about finding right touch / technique with the right amount of string tension.
If you want to contact me via website (send video) I could help further cheers Paul

Ry Cooder guitar? Thanks for the input!

Basically yes , though Ry uses an original lap pickup , the one in this guitar is a Lollar , I put it together with parts , I tried a few necks before I settled on a warmoth , thanks for watching

why is your neck pick up not close to the neck? it s more of a middle pick up?

    • @paulgreig
      @paulgreig  2 года назад

Not sure, its an old 60s teisco pickup , I like the tone where it is

@@paulgreig i m asking because it seems to be like that for a lot of coodercaster esp the ones of cooder himself but then i ve seen some where it was a bit more close to the neck so wondering if it was because of tone or another issue like phase or because of the routing behind the pickguard ?
