- James Rogers, founder of Apeel Sciences, learned that one of the main causes of global hunger isn’t that we as a species aren’t capable of growing enough food, it’s that so much of it goes bad before it can be consumed.
The reason food goes bad is fairly simple: Oxygen comes in, water goes out. If he could find a way to stretch that out, he might be able to make a dent in global hunger.
James thought, if we could slow the process of steel from oxidizing, why couldn’t we do the same for a ripe avocado?
Here’s how Apeel became a $2 billion start-up looking to end world hunger.

The biggest lesson from this video is, "Don't assume a problem has already been solved"

Is it a problem?
I do think this is a problem that has already been solved, but I can be wrong. In the Netherlands for years, most fruits have this 'edible-coating' that extents the shelf life. it is also widely used in the export of fruits. What differs in its product (I think) is it is plant-based or made with plants for plants.
in short, hats off
There is no food shortage on the planet it's a distribution problem
I came to the same conclusion after realising people been starving since forever
So the issue wasn’t too many people
Where? Your comment sounds like pure whitenoise. In many places it's not a distribution problem, it's food expense problem. Under colonialism many tropical countries were disincentivized from growing food and their people were forced to work on cocoa/pineapple/sugar plantains for Europeans through the hut tax system (i.e. slavery). Now many tropical countries import food while their farms are growing coffee for Western business men, as they fund non-profits looking to solve world hunger. Virtuous cycle ain't it.
@@uoohknk6881 if it’s an expense problem then why have people been starving since we’ve been writing history?
Lack of money? Lack of room? Lack of resources?
The only lack humans have, is a lack of knowledge because (it seems) with enough knowledge maybe we wouldn’t have all these issues (but maybe we’d have more issues that we can’t even imagine)
@@defid.system9298 Interesting. I take it you have zero experience living in the places you care so much about. It is clear that your poorly defined problem has led to misleading statements
@@uoohknk6881 what I find interesting is how you assumed so much…
-How do you know where I’ve visited and what I even love?
-when did I make any statements? I asked questions and left my beliefs vague and undefined.. ending in statements like..
“It seems” and “maybe”
I don’t pretend to know but I do ask questions
In fact I would say your comments actually make statements with you saying “in many places it’s not a good distribution problem it’s a food expense problem.”
What I can agree with you is.. maybe we haven’t defined the problem enough.. but can we define in a greater and more defined sense when it’s such a broad question with many factors including the one you stated ..
(We can engage and I think that we can learn from anyone but if we’re not trying to engage or trusting to learn, and in turn we are only trying to destroy (my views) and destroy (my questions), and destroy (my opinion) then I won’t engage)
These are the people who need to be running things.
People in third world countries solve this issue by leaving certain produce submerged in a bucket of water to make the fruit and vegetables to last longer. I'm guessing it's the same concept of leaving moisture in and oxygen out
I do that with avocados to make them last twice as long and more

What i'm concerned is the health effect of that coating material that prevents decay? If it's too good to be true it probably is
Exactly
Its a layer of tasteless, odorless, plant-based protection on the surface of fruits and vegetables. It is made of plant-derived materials -lipids and glycerolipids -that exist in the peels, seeds, and pulp of all the fruits and vegetables we already eat.

This is awesome, but people are not hungry because food is going bad. People are going hungry in America because corporations rather throw away billions of food daily than give them away. Yes but also food does go bad.

Exactly. Most people are going hungry becouse they have 10 kids and live on arid land. Not politically correct, but true.
If corporations gave them away why would anyone then pay for the products? We would all just wait until they started handing them out for free. I’m sure there are several other reasons why they can’t hand out potentially spoiled food, avoid getting sued etc.

If he’s really interested in helping the world surely it should be open source technology
He can still be really interested in helping the world while still making a profit and providing tons of jobs to workers. He just might have the same values as you do and wants to make sure that he protects his idea and is in a position to help as many of his employees in the way that both of you agree is the best. Just because he doesn't give away his idea to some rich investor or some clowns who want to use it for their own selfish needs doesn't make him the devil.
Making it open source would be even better tho

Buy 2 watermellons, clean one of them really well. then leave both and watch the difference. The product exists on nature. it can't be hard to create a product of it imo,
