Beautiful and inspiring story. I’m so grateful to have been part of YC S24 and to have met the most incredible founders and group partners in the world
I've watched so many startup videos and David and his team's story was by far the most useful. I really appreciate the failures, pivots, risks and even personal battles he went through. Thank you for giving me and my team new hope and a fresh perspective.
Google Photos is by far my favorite Google Service. The value it has given me (I was 15 when I bought a galaxy nexus in 2012) and having all those pictures from that time until today is in my opinion immeasurable
There were a lot more basic 'low hanging fruit' problems to solve back then. But also, there were very few role models & examples of how you build a company yourself, and no StackOverflow or AI to help you code. Impressive and engaging story!
15 years from now, it'll be said that there were a lot more basic "low hanging fruit" in our time. Considering the easier access to AI skillage. It always looks easier looking back.
Yup no disrespect but back then it was so easy. As someone who was too young in the era to really build products, I do live in envy. Those folks in that era should count themselves to be very very lucky. Im eagerly hoping and anticipating there will be a new technological revolution and take advantage of it.
Thanks for everything, Dave. Having you as our partner has been very very helpful. You are making a great impact throughout, every single day. ❤ Inspired as always.
I wish there were more stories like this to put the faces and stories behind the products that people use everyday. - The fact that on the night David thought he was going to die, he stays up as long as possible to looks at photos and videos of his family on Google Photos. - The fact that David initially built Bump because he was trying to share contact information with 10 classmates at the start of the semester at business school Is somehow really poetic
Very nice story. Google Photos is probably the app I "use" the most. It automatically detects pictures of my son that I take using facial recognition and adds them to albums shared with my spouse and all the grandparents, basically completely automating the task of sharing baby photos.
Total boss move going against authority to work on Photos. A common phrase from every event I attend is "remember to upload your photos!" So thanks David and team for pushing through 👏
The best video I watched in long time, the story, the suggestions, the work, the progress and user feedback, the real way and pretty much excellent for first time founders.
I really loved the bump app when I first saw on iPhones I was transferring photos from iPhone to PC it was quick and smooth ever since I followed the story and one day it sold out to Google I thought it was lost but whenever I see google photos that makes me believe that idea that born so strong it is not going to die 💙 So much power to you David and lots of love ✨
I am really inspired by David Lieb Life Story. About his entrepreneurial mindset and zeal of building an amazing product which at the end of the day add value to the user' life style. About his downs with treatment and embarasing moment but I am really attached to what lesson has he extracted from his health journey Wants to be someone like him who builds a product, a really useful and innovative which adds value to the end-user instead of doing some kind of job at a software house.
There are so many apps which have become inseparable part of our lives. Google photos is one of them. Knowing it's history is so fascinating. David you are an inspiration to many , wishing you and your family amazing healthy life! Keep helping, keep inventing!❤
Thank you for sharing this fantastic story with us. I've been an early user of Google Photos, and while watching the interview, I checked the app and looked at some memories of me farming in Haiti and playing soccer with my friends. Thank you again.
This is awesome man. Wishing you healthiest life ahead. It’s really inspiring. Initially I was telling coding is my passion. Now building products that’s use by millions of user is my passion.❤
Having supported my partner through two successful cancer treatments, I can identify with this feeling of second chances. Sounds like David is really using his well.
Amazing story! YC, please make a video where you talk about basic things founders can do to take care of their health. 1-2 blood tests per year and going 3x per week to the gym ain't hard and gives a founder peace of mind.
This was amazing speech i have ever listen any more with advancements and disadvancements our life balance come up and low points we need to fix those errors like coding bugs
Awesome vid and story from the YC team and David. Photos is probably my favorite service from Google, truly a great product on both mobile and desktop web. I'm sure Google burned a looot of money giving free *unlimited* compressed photo storage to everyone until a couple of years ago, but I'm sure it was worth it to get folks into the Google ecosystem.
This was a great watch. Im totally shocked, something that you use every day and is so popular you'd think was a priority from top brass at Google but nope. So interesting.
Great story! There is a great and interesting more detailed The Social Radars (by Jessica Livingston and Carolynn Levy) podcast episode with David and this story. Dated March 13, 2023. It was the second episode of the podcast overall. Worth listening. 🤗
wow what a crazy journey! 👀 dude started with the boring corporate route but ended up making this app called Bump where you could share stuff by literally bumping phones together lol. it actually blew up and became super popular 📱 but then Bump kinda died out (happens to like every viral app tbh). they tried making another app for sharing photos but that flopped too 😅 ended up selling to Google and made Google Photos even though his bosses kept telling him no... man literally got fired TWICE but kept pushing for it anyway. respect for not giving up 💪 Google Photos became HUGE - hit a billion users which is insane 🔥 plot twist: right when everything was going amazing he got diagnosed with leukemia... pretty deep that he spent that first night in the hospital looking through his family photos on the app he created 😢 happy ending tho - he beat cancer and now works at Y Combinator helping other startups. what a legend fr 👏 crazy how life works sometimes, right? 🤯
Great inspiring video. How to find a co-founder ....i have the business that is running, but unfortunately, do all the code and everything by myself. I need to have trusted ppl who share the same mindset I have never found them yet .
Sincere talk needs sincere response: There is an infinite afterlife also, your current mission is already aligned to make that life also a great one. Some minor adjustments in your good intentions will not hurt. It is the best time to add some study tpocis...
