I've been working for my current company for about a year now, and there are many millennials as well as old timers. I was hired to run 4 axis mills with absolutely no experience in cnc. Only thing I knew was gcode from 3d printing as a hobby and basic processes from running manual machines. When I started, everyone doubted that this 18 year old kid would do anything besides run production parts; which brings me to today. I have brought a new perspective to how things are run. I was the first person to bring 4 axis simultaneous milling into play. When I started, I was just an operator. Hate to say it, but I may be considered a machinist now. Have ran a handful of complex custom v-blocks and many other random parts from cutting stock to planning, choosing tooling, grinding tooling, programming, and inspection Everyone doubts millennials, but if you give us freedom, we will not disappoint; took me less than a year to learn a massive amount of a trade. Why? The passion and satisfaction to see something I made affect people worldwide. BOOM.
Ps- it's still necessary for me to take a cnc class as part of my degree, so you should definitely visit up here in st louis next semester! This channel has helped me alot, and I'm sure guys that are just starting off would develop a drive after seeing your passion for this industry

It's so good to see the age spread in the company, and that's clearly reflected in the Academy too. Without enabling the youth of today to help make this planet better, to be creators, we are all destined for failure. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is learning a trade. Sending my best wishes to everyone taking part in this course for your greatest successes, whether you 8 years old or 80 years old, enjoy the journey.

Hardest part of the machine world is its all old timers that hold us millennials back. Im 30 and work for a high end machine shop but they think were all idiots and we need 15 years of experince to know anything.... its annoying. Hopefully those old timers whatch this video. Great content btw.

So true. As a lead CNC Programmer all my managers have been between 55-65 years old. They don't respect any of my opinions of new technology. They always want to stick to what they know... Old school Cobalt 🌽 cob cutters for milling steel.. for example. Running 1 part at a time in a CNC Machine instead of multiple... A big company just bought is out and a the changes I suggested they are making those changes now... But the manager is trying to take all the credit when I been telling him for a few years now

ls1camaro867hp your absolutely right. I had a internship with Lockheed Martin this summer and the first month and a half was all manual and surface grinding. I won a national CNC programming competition and after that I had my own desk, mill, and fat stack of prints to mill. It is understandable that they are cautious with the parts they make but it has been like this at every smaller shop I’ve worked too. We need freedom! Lol. I’m a 19 yo college student btw. After winning they were actually super open to teaching me everything I wanted and challenging me but I don’t think you should have to go to that extent before anywhere even lets you button push!

The attitude that CNC is too complicated to be useful is pretty common, I even spoke to a 35 year old guy working at a local factory in the tool room say they have some kind of haas toolroom CNC mill that they don't ever even use. I was pretty concerned after hearing that, there's no reason not to use something computer controlled, the learning curve would take a little while for the older guys but it's completely reasonable. It only took my dad a few months to learn to use his tablet and then he was watching youtube videos every morning with his coffee.

I read statements continually like this. What is the pasts incentive to embrace the future? Embrace as in welcome with arms wide open as if you are their savior. Remember you arnt there to cure the past. Everything that was made until you: they did without you. That is a significant amount of work and accomplishment. So instead of walking in asking to be elevated on a pedestal simply based on your youth. Prove you need to be there with your contribution to the work. Why would someone give up a life time of that proof to you overnight? If they did; they are idiots. If they are idiots; do you want to be there as king of the idiots? Or do you want to be with people who are truly great? If you do; accept they arnt just going to hand over the scepter; you have to earn it. The problem in my experience is millenials don't want to make the effort to earn it. They expect it with no effort and that is the real problem.
At 37 myself I'm not giving anyone anything. If they want to earn it then by all means we want to help. Its not worth our time to invest in someone who isn't going to work hard enough to take some of the load and responsibility. There is no free lunch, there never was for them and they arnt giving you theirs. This whole problem is really simple.

First time seeing this video 2022 three years after posting. At the time. I’m 40. An older millennial if not one of the oldest of them. January of ‘82. I think most people see millennials as people born after ‘95 at least. We are pushing 40 years old. We didn’t always have computers or tech. On the other hand we did grow up with it as it grew. So all the advances in tech came as we grew older. Not to discredit the generation before us who paved the way. It’s people in their 50’s and 40’s maybe some in their 60’s who opened the masses up to tech. Machining or electric cars or the internet. As long as it keeps building. The world is better off to an extent.

Titan. How often are you in the Las Vegas area? You really need to come to the school I just graduated from.
I live about 100 miles northeast of Vegas on I-15 in southern Utah. I heard that someone was trying to get you to come here about a year & a half ago but nothing ever came of it. It's a brand new campus about 3 times the size of the one I started school on and it's awesome! You could bring the family & make a vacation out of it. There's so many things to do that are within 100 to 150 miles of this area, Zion N.P., Grand Canyon's north rim, Lake Powell, Lake Meed. and on and on... World class golfing too(if you into dat). Tons of awesome scenery within 40 miles also if you don't have time to travel all over. It's right on the edge of the desert so the cool mountains are within 30 minutes. As far as diverse landscape and out-door recreation, I'd say it's one of the best places in the world to live. I feel lucky to live here.
So... ya., come on down. You need to get these students pumped about their future! I'll show you around. Like repelling? There's five great spots that range from 40 to 200 ft. within 15 miles of the school. The best one is about ten minutes drive, it has overhangs for getting crazy, running across the rocks & such. Those off-road, four seater vehicles are big here right now too. I'll have my brother take you for a spin in his and you can blow chunks! ;-) I heard we are spoiled in terms of theater here too but I know nothing of this, just thought I'd mention it in case the wife likes that stuff.
    ...boom!
Ok, I'm done kissing ass now.
Just do it. If you like the outdoors, you won't be disappointed.

OK, so you know the area. My ex-wife always wanted to move to Vegas, I told her it's the last place on earth I would raise kids.
      Machining program?
      Yes.
Sorry, I should have mentioned that's what I went to school for, I just assumed...
Let's see if links work on RUclips.

The program I went through is about half manual & half cnc.

I love your videos! As a Millennial with a mechanical engineering degree and 3 years of aerospace machining background, I really related to this video. I have a unique question about how the CNC generation can relate to manual machine generation. I been to three shops in the past three years (job hopping unfortunately), and two of the shops had the same problems. Their main CNC programmer was programming the machines like he was using a manual mill/lathe. Low speed, low feed and not the best cycle time. In those two companies, I was able to use the recommended tooling speeds/feeds from the tooling manufacturers and increase cycle times significantly, but it was always a struggle to work with these old school machinist. How do you recommend Millennials work with people that learned on a manual machine/low torque CNC/low RPM machine/whatever and increase shop productivity through bettering tooling and equipment? Also, what should someone do when the owner of their shop does not know how to work on the machines? I have seen a lot of programs that are running carbide at HSS speeds because the programmers are afraid to use them at the correct speeds and they actually wear faster! Thanks for the videos!

And it's like HALF of them start like that in some of these places. Their so worried about them "settling in" and all these little things and THEY'RE 35 and stuff....
