No guts no glory. Over the last 25 + years as a Toolmaker, I've been quite the procrastinator when it came to learning CAD.
Because of you, I stopped making excuses of why I couldn't, no why I wouldn't , make time to do it. Titan, you are inspiring in so many ways. In Switzerland we study this career 4 years it's called Polymechanics 2days of school which we learn Math physics some chemistry and Mechanical drawing. General knowledge. 3 days we work with CNC which we do the drawing and write down the Programm, inspection documentations etc
Titan these vlogs are crazy. My wife knows when i start watching. And you are here for a reason which is inspirational for sure. Remember stay humble and give thanks to him. I have taken the advice you gave me and being a pillar in the small company I’m with. My wife and me are making a plan, and laying out how we want to go after are own company. Over my 10 years I’m making a great reputation as a machinist that will make anything and make deadlines happen with parts that not only are in spect but look amazing. Can’t wait for the next vlog, everyone is new notes paving the pathway towards my own shop. Thanks for what your doing BOOM!

I'm 19 and I'm running my grandfathers shop myself for a couple months while he's visiting family, right now it consists of a HAAS mill, bridgeport, prototrak lathe, and a manual lathe. I have big dreams even though today all I have to do is bore a couple of holes LOL a far way to go forsure. Your story is a big motivation for me, just hearing how you made it and the perseverance and blessing that brought you to where you have been but more importantly where you are today. But what I'm most glad to hear of is your faith, people can say the hold on your work might be due to the crisis or president at the time but I know that it was solely God's hand that saved you from your pride, and I used to think why would you run this academy and spend all this time making informational videos for FREE. Now I see that its because you truly want to give someone else a chance and just in general your love for your neighbor. The work you do and I do doesn't compare at all but we all start somewhere which you also give an amazing example of and I live in the name of Jesus Christ because only by his grace he touched my heart and opened my eyes, your testimony of how God guided you into seeing yourself is a powerful one for me. I dont really know why I'm writing this comment except just to say that God bless you and that you're surely in my prayers. The only possible thing that could've made this channel any better is knowing that we're brothers in Christ. You're doing a great thing, may your faith be ever growing!

While experience is certainly worth it's weight in gold, what's there not to know with all the information out there, especially now with you which I could say is more directed and potentially more valuable, to a person with the desire to learn it, than even a college education. I'm not just saying it, I'm already halfway through mine.

That was hard to listen to because I lived it, on a much smaller scale. Similarities were eerie. Lost a big customer and another walked in the next week. This lead me to think I was leading a charmed life. That new customer and another grew and grew until they were 80% of my business. More machines, more employees, bought a building. Then, over a short time, one closes their US facility and moves production to Thailand the other closes US facility and moves all their work to Mexico. I feel obligated to my employees. They have families, are single moms, dropouts working their way back up. Surely another big customer is around the corner. I have stellar credit from business being good and start making payroll using my personal credit cards, borrowing against the house to pay the mortgage on the shop building. Long story short, it didn't end well. Huge debt and no work coming in the door is it's own kind of prison. I'm rebuilding completely debt free and I find these inspiring. Thank you.

Wow. Hard to imagine this journey. Amazing all on learning the cnc world. Lucky I'm in a spot where I'm picking up where I left off in highschool. 20 yrs of construction work and now I find myself in an automotive prototype fab shop. Big name company with some far out projects. Anyways I've been in the machine shop running mills and lathe. More recent I jumped on the proto track cnc lathe. Can't wait till I'm writing my own parts. Cool video series.
Published on my birthday, but this was definitely an inspiration video I needed to see. I just bought my first Fadal and look forward to do more tolerance driven parts. I usually used my vertical mill and lathe, but I needed something that can run my 3D surfacing programs.
Blessed, Focused, totally optimized life. When orders collapse, owners strive to maintain till it kills or almost kills their business. Health issues can also be an eye opener. Reference Bob Cad instructor "Zorin" who started with and AT computer back in the day and the first version of Bob Cad. He had a operating machine shop in Fla. and things went horribly wrong about the same time. Very interesting story.

Thank you for everything you have done for this industry. I started working in 2008, when China had earthquakes, SARS virus, Olympics and national snowstorms. China under the financial crisis has started a crazy infrastructure, crazy, crazy to the extreme. The government invested 4 trillion yuan in one time to start expanding domestic demand investment. For the United States and any free trade country, this is the beginning of a nightmare. I remember that my salary was 13 RMB/hour. The Chinese government has given a large amount of subsidies to every company, so cheap goods are being exported to the world. Export tax rebates, low labor costs, and government subsidies, a large amount of funds into various industries, the government has mastered monopoly industries, oil, electricity, networks, banks, etc., the central enterprises controlled by the government began overseas expansion Buy raw materials, buy technology, and cooperate with US investment funds to let Americans invest in China, but only if they can't enter the fields involved in central enterprises.

This story is exactly why I will never grow my shop out of hand. We have been in business 30 years and just my father and I. I will take over next year. I might hire one or two employees when my dad quits working, but that will be a long time from now. I’ve seen years when you don’t cut a chip for a month. You cannot get over extended like that where you just blow up buying shit left and right. I would love to have endless emails of quotes coming in, but on the other hand, just staying busy where you don’t go in crazy debt is just right for me.

Would you be willing to hire a beginner cnc machinist, I just completed a 4 year course learning all about milling, lathes, mini cnc but I didn't get to fully operate a large cnc.

QUESTION: Titan this is indeed awesome story and you're really big MAN. It's very inspiring for all of us of what you went for and achieved in your life. Looking at what you say how you tried to be competitive and used your agressive cutting strategies to win the business I have to ask on how you did that with Hass machines? (I assume you were using these horses) . We have a brand new VF6 in our shop and honestly I have to say this is the heaviest, biggest and the worst machine in our shop. We mostly machine aluminium and seriously you can't do any deep cuts on this machine. It's only good for kissing the material. We had several visits from Haas service engineers, we even had a spindle replaced and almost no change. Any other machine in our shop with the same tools, same holder and the same speeds and feeds cuts better without any chattering then a VF6. Based on our experience I truly don't want to discredit Haas machines by any way here but I wonder how you did it man? Are you really so happy with them? If we run this machine your way I bet it would get killed within few days. Seriously I wish you could test our VF6 one day to have a really neutral view on our machine. I really believe that we have a bad boy our shop and were simply unlucky with getting bad machine.
People like you are the reason America was great in the first place and as you and a lot of Americans are rediscovering that spirit, vested in them by the Lord which will make America Great again!

I stopped a student from using a pirated copy of Mastercam. You don't want stealing software to follow you to your first job interview, IF you graduate from the university. Just don't do it. It's not worth it. Titan has FREE tools for you! Use those instead! If that's not enough to convince you, my reseller told me that they know who has pirated copies. They told me about the shop that had 1 license and 9 pirated copies on the other computers.

Can someone please inform on where “geometric Tolerancing” is used in the real world? I’m currently taking the class for my CNC apprenticeship, and everyone I talk to at work don’t know much about it.
Adam Popma at my shop where we do mostly high end fixtures GD&T almost never shows up on our prints but it is still good to know just in case.

Listening to the experts, not reinventing the wheel, going after the right tools and using recommended SFM and Chip Load... and then being creative with my tool paths etc

There’s an entire slew of secrets to cutting titanium. It all depends on what type of machine you’re using and what ghost is inhabiting your machine that day. I’ve pulled off some crazy shit with titanium on a Swiss Turn, but if I was standing next to someone machining the stuff on a Mill... I’d probably be humbled.

Just depends on the types of parts, materials, tolerances and quantities?
Aluminum and stainless steel...Do You think that Haas can do the job? I've always seen Haas vmc cutting only aluminum bit not SS
Each Haas is different...
but most can cut Stainless easy... and especially with the advanced tool paths that takes pressure out of the cut...
Down the line when your making more money you can look at other machines...
Up to you but I cut titanium and Inconel on Haas’s... definitely not easy to keep tenths, but we do.

7:20 Were the part dimensions in metric or english? 11:25 Oh, english. I'm in awe of robotics engineers that don't use metric, while the rest of the globe does.
I'm curious. As an Engineer that uses both Merican' and Metric on a daily basis, what makes Metric a more sensible unit? I don't see the difference, they're both just arbitrary numbers. I use decimal inches and decimal mm's. They have identical precision, identical resolution and accuracy... I just honestly have a hard time understanding why it even matters what unit someone uses. I'm not trying to start a fight here, I really just don't understand this perspective.

1. I like 'Merican because a dimensional length can be easily divided in half, quarter, eighths, etc.
2. I like Metric because the rest of the world uses it. If everyone speaks Japanese, then I am going to learn Japanese to maintain communication with my customers. Wakarimashita ka?
3. Not much is being done to standardize the 'Merican units of measure.

The French originated the meter in the 1790s as one/ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the north pole along a meridian through Paris. It is realistically represented by the distance between two marks on an iron bar kept in Paris. The International Bureau of Weights and Measures, created in 1875, upgraded the bar to one made of 90 percent platinum/10 percent iridium alloy.
In 1960 the meter was redefined as 1,650,763.73 wavelengths of orange-red light, in a vacuum, produced by burning the element krypton (Kr-86). More recently (1984), the Geneva Conference on Weights and Measures has defined the meter as the distance light travels, in a vacuum, in 1/299,792,458 seconds with time measured by a cesium-133 atomic clock which emits pulses of radiation at very rapid, regular intervals.
None of the definitions changed the length of the meter, but merely allowed this length to be duplicated more precisely.
Our English foot has not been so constant. The U. S. Congress legalized the use of the metric system in 1866 on the basis that one meter is exactly equal to 39.37 inches. In 1959 a number of English-speaking countries agreed that an inch is exactly equal to 2.54 centimeters so that the International foot is exactly equal to 0.3048 meters. The United States retained the old 1866 equivalency and called it the U. S. Survey foot so that 1 U. S. Survey foot equals 1.000002 International feet.
4. The last reason is personal preference. If I ever confuse 1 mm Z depth with 1 inch Z depth, then maybe my machine will plummet into the stock.
