I think this moment was the pinnacle of what music reality television can produce. This was heartfelt. It was beautiful and it showcased over twenty soloists from many different styles of singing. If you can think of a better moment I'd love to hear it.
So good... anyone who is a musician can appreciate how unbelievable the key change was. To get all those peeps to hit that and retain pitch and the key. I can only imagine how the girl felt who had to hit that key change and how worried she was about hitting it. WOW. They're all SO good! I'm in Awe.
This is One of those moments in music i'll always remember and come back to when i'm having a bad day amazing and i've heard it a million times and it still gives me goosebumps to this day.
This song is on my list of "Best Musical Moments Ever" That key change enver fails to give me absolute goosebumps. This is beyond almost everything else I've heard musically out there. So many talented peopel all focusing on a giant surge of epicness.
Such an amazing performance. You could tell that almost everyone in that knew that they were singing in one of the most amazing performances they may ever be apart of. They definitely need to invest in the show and blow it up for all it's worth. Stretch the season out, make fan voting a huge roll and keep bringing back Courtney Jensen with a different group each season until she wins!
Apart from the amazing transition through the key change, which was executed masterfully by Catherine from the backbeats, there is very cool visual that most people missed. the entire upper deck is dark and presumed empty, but then on the downbeat, after Catherine's solo, the rest of the cast springs up for an even more powerful arrival point. Just very cool performance with amazingly talented people! It is a privilege to even hear this work of art. Thank God for ears!
In my eyes, this is the BEST opening of Season 2. Now that Pitch Slapped and Men of Note were taken out, I can hear the best effects of the 8 remaining groups. And the first crescendo that leads into everyone coming in absolutely BLOWS ME AWAY every single time. Best opening, hands down. Season 1's Under Pressure and Season 3's Sing has nothing on this.
Glad to know The Sing Off is coming back Fall of 2013.. This is my favorite performance of all four seasons opener or group. It gives me chills every time.
@avafiery I was in the audience that night to see my son Brennan "Sassy" Caldwell of the Whiffenpoofs ("I'm ready now" at 2:25) and it was marvelous to hear this song in person.
@@Klipik12 nope, the voice sucks, almost never produxe generational talents... Imo their best talent is christina grimmie, and she already had a youtube following before the voice
I keep coming back to this. Such amazing fantastic musicians with little or no electronic correction - it is a rare thing these days. This piece always gives me goose bumps.
Absolutely no doubt about it. The key change by Catherine Ricafort of The Backbeats at 2:33 was the highlight of all three seasons of The Sing-Off. So glad I was a member of the studio audience to hear it live. Originally aired on December 8, 2010.
Thank you so much for putting this up! The opening numbers are much harder to find than the individual group performances, and I was going crazy to see this again!
EVERY damn time i hear that key change at 2:33 i start to cry. I dont know why but... this performance, this singers... they make me fell THE MEANING that they put in this song. Awersome.
Holy shit. THIS IS SO GODDAMNED GOOD. And it's not like glee where it's all processed and touched up with about 17 different runs through 300 computers. Real talent.
This is people working together to create something wonderful, showing their talent and not discriminating anyone. This world has beautiful people whether its the inside or out those people are found by those who didn't discriminate but took the time to get to know and listen to the individual. Are you one of those people? Let your true self shine!
The best part about this (aside from the singing--THAT'S a given) is the end, when everyone's looking out at the crowd amazed by the standing O. As if they don't know how really amazing they are and that was.

I.... cannot..... get ..... enough of this song sung by them! I really love everything about this! I have this on my ipod and blast it whenever i can!
The arrangers of the combined numbers in both series deserve enormous praise for not only the choice of each wonderful piece but the amazing arrangements. Awsome awsome awsome. Oh to be one of those singers and to be a part this experience of so many talented people coming together to create such powerful and joyous music.
Hearing these group songs gave me soooo much chills. This, along with 21 Guns are my favorites. And CALDWELLJ your son sounded wonderful. I have a soft spot for the Whiffenpoofs.
You know a lot of times modulation in a cappella songs is just sort of thrown in as a change up but the key change at 2:34 is incredible, adds such another level to it. I'd kill to be half as talented as anyone on that stage.
@caldwellj OMG he's your son?! I have quickly become a HUGE Whiffenpoofs fan, it's just a shame this group of guys won't be together after their senior year. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll stay in touch after graduation. You must be so proud! I downloaded "The Whiffenpoof Song" and have it on repeat at work! I hope that money is going toward Brennan's tuition!
Only just heard about this program. We're deprived of it down here in Oz. I am stunned how great it is. I am a sound engineer and in awe of the audio boys doing this show. How many RF mics, cues & the EQ on the bass & beat box voices. Wow - Such talent and quality production. Hats off to y'all concerned & performing. Expect tons of hits now from down-under guys
i saw a clip of this in a movie preview a few times a month ago and ive been rewatching this video and clips of committed, backbeats and scs nonstop since then
OMG!! there is just something that happens to me in the pit of my stomach when they sing this song together.OMG!! I love Kings of Leon and this is a beautiful song don't get me wrong, but there is just something so pure about Use Somebody when they sing it accapella like this. They did an awesome job!! Real Music and Real Talent
Awesome! Ive been a part of a Singing group since high-school and been a fan of acappella music ever since. Acappella trully brings Harmony, Blending, and Beauty to Songs. Like my Music Teacher told me... THE HUMAN VOICE IS THE BEST INSTRUMENT OF ALL! This is a showcase of how the human voice can create artistry thru acappella music. Thank you NBC and Sing-off for bringing Acappella into the mainstream!
I love how even in the beginning openers they use the soloists from the top 4 groups to solo the openers, they want to split it up...but we all know that when the top 4 are singing, thats when we love it.
As a fan of Sing Off - this showcases the talent this show brings. Keep it on the air for more than 3 weeks so we get a better chance to see the acts and get involved in the voting. Love it!!
At 2:34 my jaw absolutely dropped. These people are amazing, and will go far in life. I love acapella. because it shows the true talent of raw voices. There's no hiding behind instruments.
I love this so much! Ever since I saw this, I've been searching youtube for other good covers of Use Somebody and The Water Boys at the University of Waterloo up in Canada did a sweet cover of Use Somebody too! :)
Josh Heying, the soloist from On The Rocks here, kinda fascinates me. Whenever I see him talking on camera or being interviewed, he seems so shy and withdrawn, even unemotional. But when he's singing, he's very emotive. It's like he lights up and becomes really himself while he's singing.
This is such a great song with amazing singers! I especially like it because they don't only use white, black, asian; etc, people. This is sooo much better than any TV show in the world!! They have so many fantastic singers! LOVE IT!
this performance IS the highlight of all three seasons...chills every time I listen.
EVERY time...100% agree
This whole season has epic group performances. Chills when Joanna sings
In my opinion, THE best opener out of all the seasons.
2024 and this is still a top musical television moment.
I just came here to listen to Jeremy sing "I've been roaming around, always looking down at all I see". This man's voice is crystal!
I think this moment was the pinnacle of what music reality television can produce. This was heartfelt. It was beautiful and it showcased over twenty soloists from many different styles of singing. If you can think of a better moment I'd love to hear it.
R.I.P. Mr. Jerry Lawson, one of the best of the best!!
Ten years after this song and, for me, his is the voice that truly elevates this performance. 🙏
That first guy is so amazing. His voice is so pure.
Holy moly that key change.
The absolute peak version of this song. None can do any better.
So good... anyone who is a musician can appreciate how unbelievable the key change was. To get all those peeps to hit that and retain pitch and the key. I can only imagine how the girl felt who had to hit that key change and how worried she was about hitting it. WOW. They're all SO good! I'm in Awe.
why is God's name would you ever cancel a show like this?
I'm still mad about it smh
Only reason is because this show was actually about the music and not about the backstories or showmanship. 10 years later this is still amazing.
@@SWAY716 4 years later and i still agree!
Same here
and decide to keep trash XFactor, The Voice and American Idol… I would trade all 3 for this show ffs
This is One of those moments in music i'll always remember and come back to when i'm having a bad day amazing and i've heard it a million times and it still gives me goosebumps to this day.
This song is on my list of "Best Musical Moments Ever"
That key change enver fails to give me absolute goosebumps. This is beyond almost everything else I've heard musically out there. So many talented peopel all focusing on a giant surge of epicness.
Hands down BEST performance on the Sing-Off ever.
Such an amazing performance. You could tell that almost everyone in that knew that they were singing in one of the most amazing performances they may ever be apart of. They definitely need to invest in the show and blow it up for all it's worth. Stretch the season out, make fan voting a huge roll and keep bringing back Courtney Jensen with a different group each season until she wins!
that is how you sing a dang song! bring this shit back.
wow speechless, thats the kind of moment that puts the whole audience to listen
Monday 9pm...waited 2 years for this to return
Apart from the amazing transition through the key change, which was executed masterfully by Catherine from the backbeats, there is very cool visual that most people missed. the entire upper deck is dark and presumed empty, but then on the downbeat, after Catherine's solo, the rest of the cast springs up for an even more powerful arrival point. Omg.......this is the ONLY talent competition in EXISTENCE in which every competitor is legitimately talented. Simply wonderful
Season 1's Under Pressure and Season 3's Sing has nothing on this.
best opening of any song/talent contest ive ever seen!
Simply Beautiful........ tears!
Brennan is such a wonderful singer! And comes across like a wonderful person too. You must be super proud of him!
How is it that EVERY time I hear them, I get chills... gosh, amazing!
So many frickin amazing things about this song and this version. I am addicted to OTR and Jeremy Lister's voices respectively. Man
And that's how you open a show!
Still gives me goose bumps!!! They canceled this for the voice, smdh!!!
In the Voice's defense, it's probably the next best singing show after this.
@@Klipik12 nope, the voice sucks, almost never produxe generational talents... Imo their best talent is christina grimmie, and she already had a youtube following before the voice
With Jeremy at the opening & closing & Jerry singing the backup parts for flavor - makes this a sing off all time classic!e
I keep coming back to this. Such amazing fantastic musicians with little or no electronic correction - it is a rare thing these days. This piece always gives me goose bumps.
This whole performance is just goosebumps
Dude my sentiments exactly... I've been in production enough to know how freaking brilliant THAT was!!!
i love this version of this song. all of these singers are absolutely amazing to listen to.
Absolutely no doubt about it. The key change by Catherine Ricafort of The Backbeats at 2:33 was the highlight of all three seasons of The Sing-Off. So glad I was a member of the studio audience to hear it live. Originally aired on December 8, 2010.
excellent! music brings all races together.
Love it when Catherine from the backbeats sings just before the Key change an amazing moment for sure.
I like the last line the most, he sings it wonderfully. :) - AWESOME SHOW. :D
My favorite opening of any Sing Off Show so far...this is fabulous!
literally gives me chills
I'm getting goosebumps and tearing up. Always loved this song, and this is a pretty amazing cover!
OMG I MISS THIS DAMN SHOW!!!!!!!!!
Still epic
We're singing this version with my acapella group! So excited!
Every time I hear this version I get goosebumps. Amazing!
I just love the expression of pure joy on Jerry Lawson's face at 2:52. He looks so happy that he forgot to sing.
OMG this brought tears to my eyes!!!
The talent on that show was insane!!
Awersome.
Let's take a moment to appreciate the perfect blend on "make you notice"
Goosebumps Every. Damn. TIME!!!
Shivers down my back CONTINUOUSLY.
Throughout the ENTIRE song.
UGH that ending line...

I get chills every single time I hear this song.
Thank you so much for uploading this, I missed episode 2, and wanted to see the performances. This is astounding to hear.
OMG does anyone else feel like they can do anything after hearing that! Seriously the power of the voice....AMAZING!!!
I love when she starts singing @ 2:53. I love the whole performance and all the solos, but I really loved her.
