    The author of PCem did not want to have a pause key and replaced it with a NumLock key. Does anyone have a patch that will return the pause key?

    Does it run Carmageddon smoothly? And if so, does it use less CPU than Dosbox? Dosbox SVN with Glide patch is able to run the game fast but makes your CPU fry with high load/temperature.

      It Depends on your CPU most likely, because on my PC Pentium 150 MHz on PCem/86Box works well, games (Especially 3DFX Games) are working well.

      Unfortunately, PCem is a resource hog. But WAY more stable than Dosbox for running windows.

    • @fishyc43sar
      @fishyc43sar 3 года назад

      @@stormykeep9213 that's because PCem totally emulates a PC - Chipset, Motherboard and a Separate CPU, without Hardware acceleration of any kind.

    Currently, what is the most accurate, speed is not an issue since I will be getting an Apple Silicon processor, which is very fast in 2024, QEMU, MAME, 86box, or PCEm

    Why is PCem faster than 86box, i have both PCem V16 and 86Box 2.10, 86Box lags and stutters when PCem runs smooth and has a few hiccups, both are Shuttle HOT-557 (was Award 430VX PCI), Pentium 75, 16 MB RAM, Phoenix S3 Trio64, 8GB HDD, Multiboot (DOS/WFW 3.11, Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0). the main PC Specs are AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0 GHz Quad Core CPU, 6 GB DDR2-800 RAM (2gb and 4gb sticks), Gigabyte GTX 660 Graphics Card, Windows 7

      Probably it depends on your hardware, because I have i5 (Sixth Gen), SSD as OS Partition, 8 GB of RAM, and GTX 960 (4 GB) And it PCem seems to work faster on my side.

      I have a Athlon II X4 640, 4 GB DDR2 RAM, GTS 450, Windows 7. PCem is quicker than 86box, 86Box runs at 50% to 60% speed when PCem runs at a solid 100%, sometimes drops to 90%.

      Now I think the newest PCem Version would be better, but Also Probably running something lower than a Pentium 150 MHz would be better, because running 300 MHz on a Sixth Gen i5 is definitely slow. 150 MHz is fine for that CPU.

      @Szady Cbr Have you looked at 86Box recently? I actually removed the Riva TNT emulation because its developer was kicked out from the team for bad behavior (and was incapable of finishing it anyway), and 430TX is not there because I'd need ACPI and USB emulation first to make it proper. 86Box's strengths are others - several bug fixes (including in CPU emulation) PCem doesn't have, and now much better 808x CPU emulation - 8088mph now works fine (and will work even better on the next build when I commit again).

    Just yesterday I tested PCem v17 vs. 86Box 3.4.1 with Pentium II 266 MHz on GA-686BX, SB 128 and Voodoo3 3000.
    My host is i7-8700.
    86Box dropped the emulation speed to 47-55%, and was able to work on 100% with only 100 MHz processor. PCem has no problems with emulation of 233 MHz processor at full speed, some sound garbling occures with 266 MHz, but still playable.
    PCem v17 has some sprite glitches with Voodoo2 (3DMark 2000 on Win98), v16 should be used instead.

    with the brain-dead IDE Setup (Disk as Primary Slave without Master) this Comparison is NOT OK

    • @Super123456789Kuba
      @Super123456789Kuba  Год назад

      I don't care. 86Box V2's IDE setup is brain-dead to begin with. This garbage didn't see my HDD on Primary Master. CD was also annoying to work with. Honestly PCem V17 did resolve this situation better. (And that even took years since this video!) So not my fault. Otherwise I could not have 98 on 86Box to at all. Maybe the newer version of 86Box is better at that. But I'm tired of emulation at this point. Especially on a Host I'm stuck with.
