    I installed a support for that cable on day 1, it never made sense that a high voltage wire would move that much. Metal break when you fold it back and forth!

      Did you design a support yourself or did you pick one up somewhere?

    Had this notification from Bambu Labs already as i have the A1, checked the cable and mine is fine but good to know they seem on the ball and acknowledge a potential fault promptly.

      Definitely keep an eye on it. I feel this may be a batch problem as I don't fully buy the "damage in shipping" quote quite yet.
      Glad yours is looking good though. I'm also lucky, at the moment mine seems fine, but does sound like a surprising amount of people are experiencing this issue.

      Please definitely keep an eye on! Mine definitely didn’t ship or get knocked around to get damaged! It got damaged over time of using it.

    I received the printer 3 days ago, I have looked at the cable thanks to your video, and it is indeed broken.
    I don't know whether to ask for a replacement, or since I've had it for such a short time, it would be better to return it in its entirety and have them send me a new one. What do you recommend me?

    • @3DRevolution
      @3DRevolution  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hmm, if you don't have an immediate need for it I'd see if they'll do a full replacement (accept a return). My only concern there would be due to all this going on, I'm not sure if there's going to be a temporary halt on new ones going out, so you may end up with a bit of a wait if you did that.

    I'm glad there is visibility into this, and Bambu is acknowledging the problem. However, a 3d printed part to fix this doesn't give me much hope or faith and I'd like to see a better design. I was planning on purchasing an A1 but will definitely be holding off with this issue. Time will tell if this "fix" works- but I personally wouldn't trust it. I currently have an A1 Mini and it has been great, but the connector seems to be very similar, and I don't even feel comfortable leaving it printing alone now.

    • @3DRevolution
      @3DRevolution  5 месяцев назад +2

      Exactly, as you say it's good they've publicly acknowledged it, that's the first step. It'll be interesting to see what happens from here though.
      I would say that whilst this obviously adds an extra level of concern, it's worth noting that (whilst we all do it) it's certainly not advisable to leave any printer alone whilst running. There is always the risk of things going wrong and regardless of how "smart" your printer is, if you leave it running unattended, you're always doing so at your own risk.
      Whilst it won't help in a lot of cases, I have all my printers plugged in via smart plugs. I use these to turn them on and off, but it also means if something where to go catastrophically wrong whilst I'm not in the room, I can at the very least kill power to the machine.

    • @GregsMakerCorner
      @GregsMakerCorner 5 месяцев назад +1

      Very true! I generally build most of my printers and use good specs for wiring and power supplies so I may be a bit more safety conscious than most, but it’s still a risk regardless. Now that there is a known risk on the Bambu A1 I will definitely be even more so.

    surprised that just apparently a dodgy bent cable can cause the fire
    would think that bendy copper is robust and fail proof, even if bent to hell

    • @3DRevolution
      @3DRevolution  22 дня назад +1

      The cable in question was related to powering the heat bed and also the headbed thermistor. The bed is designed to get up to 120 degrees C when it's working. If the cable was dodgy and things went wrong, it could heat up indefinitely until flames come a knocking.

  • @MrKornnugget
    @MrKornnugget 5 месяцев назад +1

    It’s even more dangerous when it’s an AC bed on a bed slinger. They have to use thinker and more insulated cables that can break down quicker. Also a 24v DC is less shocking than AC mains voltage.

    • @3DRevolution
      @3DRevolution  5 месяцев назад +1

      It's going to be interesting seeing how this plays out. It's good to see them responding to it rather than outright ignoring it but their response needs to be successful.

    • @MrKornnugget
      @MrKornnugget 5 месяцев назад

      @@3DRevolution What? It is a cable that has mains AC. If they ignored it and someone gets electrocuted, and it cased injury or death, Bamboo would get their pant sued off and they would still have to recall all the printers.
      They have not issued a recall, they issued a call back… whatever that is. They don’t even tell users to stop using the printer until this cable “protector” shows up. Even asking users to print their own protector can open Bambu up to liability. It is only going to take one, fire or injury and Bambu is going to get sued now that they know of the problem and asked the end user to do a self inspection instead of issuing a recall and telling all users to stop using the product till this they receive the fix.
      It is a bare minimum response and they try to push the blame for the bad cable design to external factors, like the users bending the cable wrong or something in shipping. Tons of items gets shipped and moved that have AC cords and don’t burst into flames. I have no idea why people bend over backwards to cover for this poor response.

      @@MrKornnugget Absolutely a fair shout. All I meant was at least they have publicly acknowledged the issue rather than straight up denying it or trying to brush it under the carpet. What I meant by "their response needs to be successful" is that I feel this is going to escalate and if they are to survive this they need to respond in a way that's appropriate to the risk it poses.
      I agree, a full recall would be the best solution, but I don't see that happening. At this scale, that could put Bambu in the ground, so they'll be avoiding that if possible.
      As you say though, being AC, they can't really ask end users to do direct mods or part replacements so it is going to be interesting seeing what they decide on.
      However, I this may also be a wake up call for a lot of people who joined the 3D printing community during this wave of next gen printers and who have felt it's a little safer than it actually can be. Whilst I certainly do it myself, even with all these extra safety features, I'd say it still isn't advisable to leave a long term print running unattended.

      @@3DRevolution Sorry to come across like that. I am an Electrical Engineer and I stated in the Bambu forums and on other reviewers since the A1 was released that it was irresponsible to put an AC heater on a bed slinger. The reason Bambu did this was so could use a smaller power DC power supply since it doesn't have to power the bed heater. The problem is that there is mains power on a part that swings back and forth quickly causing metal fatigue in the bed cable. This is compound by the fact that A/C voltage requires larger conductors and are more prone to metal fatigue and break down of the internal insulation that can cause shorts. Also, they have a heater where people us liquid cleaners to with mains voltage. It is a cost cutting measure that is promoted as a feature because A/C can heat up the bed quicker. This has always been the case and is not some new technology, the reason it is not used on the majority of bed slingers is because of the potential shock and fire hazard. I would rather get shocked by low current 12v or 24v DC than direct from the mains 110V or 220V AC.
      I have received nothing but hate from the Bambu community for pointing a very obvious design flaw that was implemented as a cost cutting measure. Now that the A1's are failing just like was predicted, all the Bambu community is praising them so addressing a known design issue that puts people at risk. This is insane, Bambu doesn't need anyone to defend them. Just looking at their "fix", all it does is move the inflection point further down the cable. So instead of shorting out in a few months it will happen in a year.
      A/C bed heaters should never be on bed slingers. If you want to modify your Bambu or Ender or PRUSA with an A/C heater, that's you and you put yourself at risk. It is completely irresponsible for Bambu to have done this. People need to stop giving them credit for putting out a machine that puts people at risk and then blame the users for "pinching" the cable.
      Again, this is not against you or your reporting. I just have a problem with this design. It is dangerous.

    Its 2024 and bambu lab is taking a play from the anet A8 playbook. People are already sending in pics of bulging heatbed cables and BL is telling them they're fine and not a problem! Ridiculous considering that BL's official pics would state otherwise. They tell you to contact customer support but their customer support doesn't even know what a bad cable looks like.

      I personally find Bambu printers fantastic on the whole. They print 3-4 times faster than most others, maintaing equal if not better quality, and make things like multi-material printing super easy and accessible. There are of course loads of pitfalls with it though, from the less open ecosystem than some competitors, to the issues like presented here and how they're being handled, but on the whole I've found Bambu printers have become my workhorses, coming from Prusa's being my daily drivers for many years. Don't get me wrong, I still love Prusa and use them for many things, but I personally wouldn't say Bambu suck. Though obviously, it all comes down to personal opinion.
