John does a good job on this. The original was by Ben E. King. This was one of the last songs that John played in front of a live audience. On April 18 1975 he performed "Slippin' and Slidin'", "Stand By Me" and "Imagine" at the "Salute to Sir Lew Grade" at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. Unfortunately "Stand By Me" was left off the TV presentation. It was quite ironic that John even performed at this schmaltzy showbiz event, given that Lew Grade's ATV company had ended up in control of the Lennon & McCartney song catalogue but he did have a new album to promote at the time. It's worth checking out the other two songs that John performed that night, they can be found on RUclips.
This is a cover of an early rock/pop tune. John has a lot of heavy, deep songs. Imagine, God, Working Class Hero, Mother , Cold Turkey (describing his kicking a heroin habit) and some nice sounding lighter songs, Instant Karma, Jealous Guy, Mind Games. John wrote all of those songs.
Classic tune! "Stand By Me" never goes out of style. Ben E. King dropped the original in 1961. He was a founding member of The Drifters in their second line up and sang the lead on "There Goes My Baby" (1959), "Save the Last Dance for Me" (1960), "This Magic Moment" (1960), and "I Count the Tears" (1962) among others. His first solo hit was "Spanish Harlem" in 1960. Aretha Franklin took her cover of that song to the tops of the charts in 1971. John Lennon covered "Stand By Me" in 1975. The song featured prominently on the soundtrack to the award winning 1986 film of the same name starring River Phoenix and Kiefer Sutherland based on a novella by Stephen King. "Stand By Me" is so well known that it's a great song for impromptu jam sessions with musicians of varying degrees of skill too or at least it was in the bar band scene I knew in the nineties.
Thanks Biz! Love John Lennon's cover of this tune.. not sure which songs of Lennon that you've done, but "Whatever Gets You Thru the Night", "#9 Dream", "Mind Games", " Watching the Wheels", and "Instant Karma" are all Great..
This is my Great grandsons favorite song. He's 3, lol. He'll bounce around the living room doing his little dance. At 3 he has a great ear for music! Loves classic rock, even Pink Floyd!
I was just singing this version a few hours ago today with my music group, how bizarre 😮 When I sing it I channel John's voice. Of course this is a cover of Ben E King's original version. Brilliant!
I don't recall John or Yoko saying a bad thing about each other, it was always someone else. I stand corrected but they both loved each other. I hope you get to hear 'Beautiful Boy' he wrote to his son.
Biz, everybody, and I mean everybody has done a reaction to the music video for "Now and Then", the final Beatles song that was released last week. When are you doing it? Looking forward to it. Peace
Hey Biz, will you be reacting to The Beatles new song, NOW AND THEN??? Pretty please??? Official video a must. So much work has gone into this creation. An old song by John Lennon back in 1977 was extracted from an old cassette tape by using a type of AI, created by Peter Jackson, director. Peter directed The Beatles Get Back movie and has done amazing work. He's known for Lord if the Rings. So many reactions out there to this new and last Beatles song, however, very few have done an intelligent review on it. I'd like your smart insight and opinion on the song. I'd appreciate it and I'm sure your other subs will too
I have loved the Beatles since I was in 2nd grade, around the time they were on the Ed Sullivan show. Don't have a favorite, each is unique and special. They were trailblazers in the explosion of British rock and the amount of talent between them all is beyond belief. Most all of their music is timeless, but there are a few that I'm not crazy about. This version of Ben E. King's classic song is a killer. I used to be among those who really disliked Yoko until I read a sympathetic biography on her life. Her life story, before John, is amazing and she has sadness and insecurities like many people. However, I still HATE her "so called singing", and no question she was a total bitch where poor Julian was concerned. But John truly loved her, so that is all that matters. I miss him. It is tragic to think of what could have been 💔
@@detroitlady7201 Probably all of the above. From what I have read, John had a lot of emotional problems himself and was not always a likable dude (no disrespect intended, no one is perfect).I choose to believe that they were two emotionally wounded people who fulfilled a need in each other. If they were happy with each other, I'm not going to judge.
@@jathygamer8746right. However, you say" who knows where the truth lies". To me it sounds like you're not totally convinced. Mark Chapman himself has told his story and the reasons he killed John
John Lennon is a legend, I love him and his music sooo much, including every Beatle, together as a band or soo. 😊

I agree! All of them, and I would add "Imagine" and "Jealous Guy".
@bobmarley8270 Definitely.. and also the song, is it "Nobody Told Me ", that there would be days like these? Strange days indeed..
@@4tuneagent Oh yeah, for sure. I forgot about that one. lol

Imagine is John's most prominent and important solo song. Nobody Told Me is the one I enjoy the most!
“Power to the People”

My favorite Lennon solo song is Watching the Wheels! Check it out! Cold Turkey and Instant Karma are some other great ones!
Another banger! Definitely check out Borrowed Time. So wild that he wrote that one not long before his passing, powerful lyrics. 💙
The Beatles Enough Said 🌄☕
Please react to John Lennon's...Mind Games..official video..please Biz!💞✌️

Hey, you know who you are out there, is lennon underrated😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Personally I'm not a ",fan " of The Beatles but love ❤️ this song and " Give Peace a chance "(anti war song)
And if people don't subscribe don't let them comment 😜
I think Ben E King wrote it, I could be wrong of course
I know he had the original hit. Pretty sure he wrote it.
Ben E. King was the first to record it in 1961, but it was written by the prolific songwriting team Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
@@scottgelb2650 Thanks. Every time I try to work from memory....
I've always thought his version as good as the original. "Nuff Said."

Yes, more John Lennon.
There are some crazy theories about Yoko and his murder. Who knows where the truth lies.

@@eviekelpie1 No, just saying there are theories
