I am obsessed with the Alice quilt. Just finished the quarter square triangle section, thank God!!! On to diamond in a square which will be so relaxing as I already know how to make them. The quilt is going to my 4 year old granddaughter Bella and her mom said she is so excited! I told her it had 100 squares and she told me she could count to 100 now too!!!! What a joy. What fabulous projects. I haven’t attempted a zipper pouch but you have inspired me to try. I laughed when you said about making a quilted handbag so when you left the house people would know you were a quilter. I went to the quilt show in Birmingham with my sister, who is not a crafter at all, and everyone she saw with a quilted bag, jacket, brooch etc she would say ‘there’s one of your friends!’ We did have a laugh. Thank you for sharing and enjoy the festival.

Wow you’ve been busy! I’m not surprised you’re behind on your temperature quilt. I have to agree something like that is easier to do in small batches rather than one a day. You might still get to use the hot colours, the summer isn’t over yet. Is it your fault we’re having a bad summer because you really wanted to use those hot colours? (Just kidding) 😉😂
I love the mini houses, they are so cute and the colours are lovely. Those zips are gorgeous the floral one has a very Cath Kidston vibe to it. Rainbow fabrics has some fabulous fabrics at amazing prices.
That retro French fabric would make a fab apron!

Love your videos. Cute bags! I was actually making a tote bag when your video popped up. I have a fat quarter of the second piece of fabric you showed with the children on it. I haven't decided how to use it either. I've had it for a few years now.
We must have the same in fabric! its hard to know what to use it for because I dont want to cut into another of the children.. the perfect project will come along!

Fun video. I laughed because once you start sewing bags it’s hard to stop. They’re fun to sew and very useful. I’m not sure how you quilted your duffel bag but if you quilt back and forth you tend to get those ripply areas. If you quilt top to bottom or left to right etc then you shouldn’t see those wrinkles. Unless it’s a fabric or stabilizer type issue. I cut my fabrics an inch or so larger if I’m doing a bunch of quilting. Then if It gets a bit weird I can trim It to size. Usually if you’re using a walking foot and not tight matchstick quilting the fabric should stretch very much. Your houses are darling. Perfect size in my opinion. Not large houses with too much sky. Your fabrics are so cute. Happy sewing!

Lovely work as ever Rachel . I asked my son to order Alice’s Sample book for me & I met him for coffee yesterday & brought it along . But best of all he wouldn’t take pay for it . What a lovely son I’ve have . Can’t wait to look through it now . Tomorrow Tuesday is my free day as such . So large pot of coffee & sit & look at it . Looks lovely though. ❤
Oh Rachel you're such a day of sunshine (despite our British summer!!!). Love the bags. I've just been making a few little phone bags to take just a phone and maybe credit\debit card. They're very sweet. Not however as sweet as your tiny little duffle bag. That's super cute. You deserve to realise your hope for the future.

I’m thinking about the wavy zipper. Maybe the zipper needs to be sewn on the grain where there’s no stretch as opposed to the width where there’s stretch. So, the fabric pieces where the zipper will be installed, try cutting the pieces on the grain.
@jojorey6886 that's a very good point, one of my wavy zips was on a patchwork edge so maybe I had stretched it. I'll keep it in mind, thank you!

Great video! Thanks so much for sharing the pattern for the crossbody bag. My 10 year old granddaughter mentioned to me yesterday that she wants to make a crossbody bag with me and that pattern looks perfect. I would be doing most of the sewing, right now she is most interested in picking out the fabrics😊
Aww that will be a lovely project to make with her, I suspect she will be desginer and supervisor whilst you work on the production line... have fun!!
Rachel, love watching your videos. you are so inspiring. I have started to hand stitch since I have been watching you. I have been machine sewing quilt tops for over 25 years. The one piece of advice my mother taught me is to always use a 1/4 inch seam unless otherwise stated in the pattern. I wish we were closer so we could sew and quilt together. Keep up the good work. How do you think is the best way to become very confident in sewing, I am fairly new at this. I get by but want to become so much more able and my work to be much more of a higher standard.

Rachel, your videos are amazing. You have such wonderful taste in material. Note; when ever I make something kind of different or something I may not make in a while I will write up a note to remind me to watch out for specific “problem” areas so that when I make the item at a later time I will be reminded to take care in what I work on so I can avoid costly mistakes. Do you ever do things like that? Cute comment about your sewing machine. Thanks
Hi Louise, I've never done that but its such a good idea because I often make little changes to patterns and I suspect I'd forget when I come back to make the pattern again.

Hi Rachel! Oh my I love everything you are making especially the large Tula bag. There is an acrylic precut insert to put on the bottom of that bag so it would not sag if it were full which I love. If you are interested just msg back and I can give you that information. The sock and yarn you are using is beautiful. I only wish I knew how to knit. Maybe someday. I love your bags! Your sock is so cute! You might want to consider doing a short row heel like the shadow wrap heel, otherwise a heel flap and gusset will mess with your micro stripes. ❤
Thanks for the tips! I'm hoping I'll have enough of the contrast mini to do a different colour heal so I won't need to worry about the stripes

Bags are so fun! Yeah i defo think you could make the bag in time, and how lovely it will be to use it on your trip. It took me around 2 days to make but I would be longer if you opt for patchwork version, but worth it!
You have been busy. On my zippers that have small pull tabs I put a large or medium size safety pin.you never know when a pin is needed.

Question? I noticed the hand stitching on your quilt is quite wide and I also have seen this before on another quilt. When I first started hand quilting many, many years ago, I was taught to use very small even stitches. Is this a new trend?

You sound like a local brummie girl to me, what date are you going to the festival of quilts at NEC next week? Also did you go to Alice Caroline recent sale in the Cotswold, my friend went and they were giving away smaller pieces of Liberty, she is going to pass on a bag to me at the NEC on Saturday. Rachel, I have a question about the size of the duffle. The large pattern says it is 12x20x9. Your duffle looks much larger and you said you made the mini one. What are the dimensions if the one in this video? Thank you.
