That is an excellent question, as the allicin compound within the bulb should have deterred them. The question is did they survive after eating the bulbs?
@daviddomoney the bulbs are intact, it was the stems they decimated. I'd used nematodes for the slugs quite successfully, so the snails took over! They're also in a raised bed.
