    Nice flight John. Great little 1s Models.....I am big fan of the Firefly Nano, I did change to an XT30 to get the best current flow. Seems the iFlight is nice too but a bit more weight. Both killer buys.

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  2 года назад

      You’re right the iFlight baby nazgul is heavier, mine weighs 25.88 grams. The flywoo weighs 21.42 grams. An xt30 seems to me like it would be overkill on this quad … but, there’s far better battery availability and choice on xt30. Still think the iFlight quad despite its weight and +1000kv in motor rev is being held back by that non solid pin connector. Don’t know what they were thinking!!!

      Thanks! ✌️The nazgul definitely needs a new connector, I will do an experiment at some point and swap one in. But the nazgul is a heavier micro than the flywoo as well, so I think it will always have less flight time. Durability wise the flywoo concerns me a bit compared to the nazgul - but, I’ve crashed it a few times so far since this, and no damage. 🤷‍♂️

      Agree my friend! The flywoo doesn’t seem to be as well protected. iFlight went for a very traditional 5” frame type and literally minified it. It’s super cool. The flight performance consistency and obviously time on the ‘woo is def better though.

      Glad this was useful! I went out again with the Baby Nazgul and put a 600mah LiHV battery on it. I was able to achieve around 4 minutes of decent flight time with that size pack, but it did add more weight to it and felt heavier. I feel like the Nazgul one might be the more durable unit in the long term but the flywoo baby nano is seriously optimized for flight time. iFlight also made such a stupid, simple mistake putting a non solid pin connector on it! 😔 It's still a lot of fun, but that connector has got to go.

      Have him check! That’s probably exactly why. I’ve came across a number of people with the exact same problem. I think all the frsky receivers in the recent batch have an incorrect antenna size. The flight time yes, and - consistency of the flywoo too. I noticed going back and looking at the DVR the woo is just sipping that battery in terms of amp draw but the nazgul is really pumping it. Probably a combination of more efficient + better connector. I would love to fit a solid pin ph 2.0 or GNB27 connector.

      It was a tough call. I can tell you that I finally decided to sell the iflight baby nazgul and kept the firefly baby nano 1s. Since that time, I have crashed the baby nano 1s with the insta360go2 on it in more ways than one, and mine has survived. I did take some extra precautions and added a little protection to the back of the camera electronics, though, but other than that it's stock. Having the Flywoo for a few months and all the crap with the ELRS, I almost gave up. It would not bind and I felt dumb. Thank goodness for the ELRS discord and the brilliant people behind ELRS. Apparently the two tiny capacitors needed to be removed!!! The ELRS peeps talked me through fixing the damn thing, for which I am very happy and those guys are solid. After all that and the many bumps, the Flywoo is tough and flight is good. (Not a fan boy...but I now own both flywoo hex 'copters....firefly and venom).
    The Baby Nazgul 73 is new to me. The only changes to ALL my quads is: 80% power max and some expo on the throttle (40-50) if it *feels* too twitchy @ mid stick. It has more power for sure. Ran 3 packs of the 450 mah Flywoo HV's so far. It tends to drift backwards, just like the firefly, so it needs a recalibration, just like the firefly did...lol more to come. Side note: the video is better in the Nazgul, even with 50 me limitations. The Flywoo is at 100 MW. They both have ELRS stock. "Born to be Powerful" is no lie.

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  Год назад +1

But it has great flight times, just as smooth as the Emax Nano Hawk, and pretty tough.
      The Baby Nazgul 73 was a breeze to set up. From Betaflight setup with the bind in the setup (no quick 3x power taps for bind mode or finding the tiny bind button, lol). The video seems better, antenna separation is way better in the Nazgul or something else?

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  2 года назад

      I believe the big hold up has been licensing issues… GNB and other battery vendors have not wanted to pay for a license to use BT 2.0. Then, GNB comes out with GNB27 and it isn’t that great. Issues with it being too tight, and breaking. Now they’ve made GNB27 V2 which is on the flywoo, fixing those issues. And I believe the licensing cost almost nothing to use, GNB benefits because they are a battery company. I think we may see GNB27V2 slowly replace PH 2.0. Eachine has also put out a branded connector exactly like GNB27 called the “ET 2.0” as well. I always figured a battery company like GNB were in the best position in the market to make a connector to overtake PH 2.0

    The Nano Baby rarely pulls over 7 amps while the Naugul is pulling beyond 11 amps, I think that is the reason for the extended battery life of the Flywoo but is the punch of the Nazgul worth the +- 100% extra
    amp draw? What are the motor specs? Size? KV?

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  2 года назад +1

      Yes, correct - the flywoo nano is just sipping off that battery in terms of amp draw but the iFlight is pushing it. The iFlight is 17000kv and the flywoo is 16000kv and both are 0802 motors. So the nano does have a bit more punch and also weighs more, but I almost guarantee more flight time and less battery voltage sag / amp draw would be achieved with at bare minimum a solid pin ph connector or a proper one like bt 2.0 or the GNB27. The rolled pin connector is absolutely _horrible_ for current flow and more amps are being drawn because of that crappy connector than would need to be. The flywoo is probably always going to be the winner in flight time regardless since it’s lighter and has 1000kv less.

Just a poor/cheap decision by iFlight.

    I love these quads, but in small size I just like prop guards and you can really just send it through gaps n crash, turtle repeat without bending props and blowing esc.
    I prefer to go up to 2inch or 3inch when I go open prop quads.

    Hallo. Is IT possible to fly this little drone with one 18650 Battery Like Sony vtc4? Is it for beginners? Thanks

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  2 года назад +1

      I don’t see how it would work well. A Sony VTC4 18650 weighs far too much for either of these. Doubtful it would even get off the ground really, and even if it did, would just be for straight cruising. ☹️
      I would say these drones are not best for beginners. It’s more of an intermediate level drone. A beginner will be crashing - a lot. And both of these have completely open props, and open motors. That’s not good for someone who will be crashing a lot while they learn.
      Something ducted like whoop that provides more protection in crashes would be a better choice. If you need a recommendation, let me know!

    • @JohnCuppi
      @JohnCuppi  2 года назад

      Alright, I'll do the best I can but it's difficult to explain in a comment. The 'white part' of a receiver antenna is called the 'active element.' That is the exposed part of the coax that receives the signal. The black part of the antenna is insulation, but there is also a very small wire mesh that shields the coax inside of it. Because it is very important to get as close to 32.8mm on the exposed active element part of the antenna.... let me give you what may be an easier solution. HappyModel sells replacement IPEX3 connector antenna models, which is what the Flywoo Baby Nano 1s frsky version uses. Here is where I found them, you can get a pack of these and repair it a lot easier if don't have any more to cut left: www.banggood.com/Happymodel-Moblite6-Moblite7-Spare-Part-5PCS-2_4G-DSMX-DSM2-Receiver-Antenna-for-Diamond-F4-Flight-Controller-FPV-Racing-RC-Drone-p-1820235.html?p=G814221249561201502U&custlinkid=1711362

      It depends on when your taranis x9d+ was made. If it was made before 2017, then frsky d8 is built in. Otherwise, past that, no d8. In that, case I would try setting the receiver type to FRSKY_X on the baby nano instead, which will put it into d16 mode. Then bind in d16.

      Go really high, make sure you know where the normal mode switch is / brake mode and just flip over, and then flip yourself back.
