Yes, Austin Hardt, to be specific. I train at RG-B and Austin was using this technique in competitions as early as 2016. And yes, he was a white-belt when he developed it. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves for inventing this ingenious submission.
This sounds very weird and I'm legitimately in shock. I do this thing where I go for runs and drills movements in my head. I kept thinking this exact way you're showing to choke someone and was gonna try next time in class. To my shock I get home turn on my computer, open youtube and this video was one of my top suggestions and not only that, it only had just been posted. I've never experienced anything like this in my life...fucking nuts.. I was drilling this in my head whilst on my run
I did this with one of my training partners a few months ago and it caught him off guard too. He always does the over under pass, I was attempting to set up a version of the canto choke and this exact position presented itself. I've since used it successfully on several other training partners with great success. It really does work well. Just like he said in the video, I started doing the canto choke from different positions after watching Bernardos video with Flavio Canto, amazing how things work out.
Bernardo, I have the counter for this choke its the same thing I do when someone tries to push my head across the center line. Control the hand that your opp. is using with your under hand. Say Hi to Mike for me and looking forward to seeing you again.
I've actually done this before. It's very similar to the hand in triangle, where you feed that same hand into deep in the collar to take up space and close down on the carotid. You flex that had away from the neck, which presses the wrist INTO the neck, like the Helio choke. Both work, just not super high percentage.
Good to know. Over under is my favorite pass technique. But I wonder if that is much of a risk because as soon as I got the "under", I drop my shoulder on the opponent belly.
I was thinking the same thing. I was seeing as good counter when your triangle fails and they start stacking you with that leg over their shoulder, of course you will need to be faster to get their lapel under your leg
I have learned a move from a white belt I was giving privates to! He messed up the grips for a John Wayne sweep and swept me straight into a paper cutter variation. It’s is named after him. I use it all the time but he doesn’t remember how he did it 😂.
Love it. OK everyone, let's crowd source a name for this...here are some ideas: BB (blue belt) choke BB Over Under Honor Choke Crooked Canto Twisted Canto
Gotta respect Bernardo for making a video like this
We were just talking about this after class. You can learn something from anyone, no matter the color of their belt.
i think being featured on bernardo's channel is every blue belt's dream
Love it. Remember the buggy choke was invented by a white belt at Ralph Gracie in Berkeley named Austin not that long ago. The sport evolves so fast

Wow! Love this channel for a reason
There’s a guy in my gym where all he does is over/under pass. Can’t wait to surprise him with this little gift 😈
Fabulous!
Really cool, I'll have to give this a shot
Awesome! Thank you both for sharing!

I love stuff like this 😂.
Welcome to the Age Of Aquarius mate!
Its AI moving madder than mad. Happens to me almost every day.
love it, thank you
So, get an angle and force a Canto choke.
Watching this video was a huge honor for me.
I have seen this before, but I don't remember. Thanks for bring this up again

Great 👍 thanks for sharing smart blue belt 👍❗️
Thats awesome!
Huge OSS!
I like the variation. The defense of the first choke would be to push the leg over your head, which would lead nicely into the second modified choke

Awesome stuff 🤙🤙
Pretty cool! Now to figure out how to do this without a gi!
No arm triangle
Yeah i thought "isn't that just a canto choke?"
Well, with the other leg, and the other arm. So i guess it's new!
That's amazing

Should call it the Fletcher choke, after its inventor!
blue belch!!.. oss
osss
I can see this be valuable when the triangle doesn't work and they try to stack you
COOL
Cool move, maybe use your secondary hand to prevent posturing out of it?
Good to know. Over under is my favorite pass technique.

Bernardo, could you escape this choke by turning to the same side as the over leg to relieve the pressure from the lapel on the under leg side?
To be honest the way I see it is to push forward the leg that is over the shoulder
Love it. OK everyone, let's crowd source a name for this...here are some ideas:
BB (blue belt) choke
BB Over Under
Honor Choke
Crooked Canto
Twisted Canto
Blue belt chock
Should have just tapped! Credit where credit is due!😊
Bernardo is the master of the over-under pass, so, if he says that choke is legit, it must really be legit.
I’m using it
Seems like a variation of Canto Choke
É só uma variação do Canto Choke.
Oss eu faço essa Mestre Bernardo
Nao seria o caso de virar seu rosto pra esquerda no mesmo sentido da puxada dele?
Nao parece que perna travaria essa virada, acho.
Isn't this some kind of gogoplata (because it involves both your legs and your hands)? I'm asking as a white belt, btw.
I see myself getting tapped out by Mike in the near future now😅
cool, that's neat, it's like a reverse canto choke? can anyone name it please? haha
You should have asked him to give a name for this new move
looks so similar to a canto choke that id stilll just classify it as a canto choke…just mirror imaged
Really don't want my opponents to see this.
Canto
I use over under but not that much.....
Easily defended
*waits for butthurt Judoka’s to come along and claim it as “just judo” 🙄
This is like a Canto choke really?
I've been hit with this before
You can escape easy
Can you not just push the leg over your head to escape?
Not working
Am I bugging or isn’t that just a canto choke?
Nah.
no, canto is not around the leg cross collar with leg assist like this one is ,,,,,, its same side or near collar grip with a leg assist
more or less. basically modified canto. there's nothing new under the sun
@ yeah it came back to me now. Not something I ever really do.
