making the melodic part at the end loop in game despite it not repeating in the actual soundtrack is a cruel ass way to reflect how such a fleeting moment seems to last forever when youre there
Ugh from 2:45 onwards... it has such a bittersweet ring to it and it just fucking hits the spot. It goes so perfectly with you meeting her for the first time after climbing numerous chambers and dying countless times just to get to her... yet you only have a couple of moments to spare with her. Towards the end of this piece... it almost sounds / feels like a "I'll die as many times as it takes to see you again, mother" and that's so heart wrenching, gdi. I thought getting to see her on the surface would mean the end of the game but little did I know that it would just be the beginning... this game and the soundtrack is fucking amazing. You did it again, Supergiant (and Darren Korb!)
Yes! That's the part I came here to listen to again. It encapsulates his desperate yearning for love and answers to his questions, both of which he probably didn't get growing up. It's so beautiful.
This song starts out so uncertain, almost foreboding. Zag is unsure, he doesn't know what to expect- might even be scared but he needs to press on. To find out. The song continues to bloom, keeping the air of uncertainty but adding a subtle beauty. And by the end of the song, for the last 30 seconds you hear the briefest, most beautiful part. It's short, like Zag's time with his mother. You want to keep coming back- you need to keep coming back just to hear that song one last time. Just. Like. Zag
I don't see enough people talking about this being a reprise of "In The Blood" (of course, you wouldn't know that unless you beat the game), but here's a quick breakdown. 1:20 - The chorus of "It's in the blood" 2:14 - The verse starting with "Run all you like..." Absolutely masterful use of motifs in this game's soundtrack. Instant favorite.
not to damper this comment, because it IS really good and partially true, but In The Blood is an extended remix of No Escape, the main menu theme. Still, the theme shows up in many places throughout the game, such as the Hades fight phase 1 music and the Temple of Styx music Gates of Hell. It's pretty cool how many times it shows up tbh.
I've never been more motivated to beat a boss over and over again. All just to talk with mom, a little each time. That drive to see her again didn't ebb till she came home... Then it was private sparing lessons with dad.
How is it possible for one game to have this diverse of music, it all being drastically different and still make it all work. All the new songs added are just superb.
You actually get them: all the chance of having a spot spawn there, is added up onto the fishing spot right after beating Hades, into one giant overworld fishing screen.
I love the end of this track so much. I wish dearly that it were longer, but I am glad that it isn't. It perfectly represents the short fleeting feeling of Zag and Persephone's meeting. Bravo to Darren and the Orchestra.
After putting over 100 hours in, I was shaking with anticipation by the time I got to the final boss during my first run after 1.0 launched. The moment of hearing this music, seeing the sun come up... hands-down one of the most breathtaking moments for me in any SG game.
The way they conclude the melody every time in the game proper is something I don't want to leave without notice. Edit: wait, I've realized that it contains a reprise of "In the blood".
hearing the part at 2:45 playing while seeing persephone say her hurried goodbyes to zagreus as he's taken by the styx were some of the most emotional moments in the game for me. such a bittersweet feeling, like waking up from a wonderful dream 😢
I was not ready for the Austin Wintory Darren Korb wombo combo. The Pathless already had me hyped for his new work, but then he works on my latest obsession and gods I can't handle it.
my first time reaching that part and just watching the sun rise... it felt almost like I was REALLY there, basking in the first rays of sunlight in a long time, feeling the cold air and the gentle breeze, having all the burdens melting off my shoulders and my body becoming weightless, man this game really got me GOOD!
Hades is a love letter to all the videogamers, gameplay and storyline are absolutely at the top.. And this song...worth the effort to beat the final boss every time.. Absolutely gorgeous
This might just be my favorite track without the lyrics in the game. Even though the setting is different, this has beautiful influences from Middle Eastern music and instruments, while still retaining that Greek influence and the sense of attaining freedom from the underworld, seeing blue skies and rising sun above the water for the first time. Thank you, Darren, you hit all the right spots in this one. Makes me desperately wish and hope that Supergiant someday makes a game in the desert/Middle Eastern setting, like 1000 & 1 Nights sort of thing (with their own lore or the original stories and myths, like they did with Hades). My, what a journey that would be... UPD: Also reminds me of Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra main theme :D
As a Persian I hope do hard Supergiant take a crack at interpreting some Persian poetry/myth with the same love and care they have with Hades. At the same time, I wouldn't want to box the studio into something they weren't passionate for. I just yearn for legends outside of the west to be treated with care and represented in such a way as Hades achieved

The first time I made it I literally paused when Zagreus realized he was dying and the song came in. All that struggle, all 43 attempts, 24+ hours, and I'm still unwillingly dragged back to the underworld... Only left with my memory of finally meeting her, and struggling to reunite yet again. Such an emotional scene everytime I make it.

I only just recently started playing Hades for the first time, so I can't even remotely imagine what reaching this moment was like for people who were here since the beginning I haven't felt emotionally drained to the point of tears like this since the end of NieR Automata
Those last 40 seconds have the same energy as the scene in ratatouille where the critic takes a bite of the ratatouille and has a flashback the when he was a kid. and just like that scene, this song is truly magical.
When Zag helplessly got consumed by the styx and you hear him plead for more time after finally escaping and meeting Persephone for the first time in his life... Especially when 2:45 hits, it fits so well. I almost cried 🙃
Bro I could tell the moment I started playing hades it was something special. This isn't a game it's a masterpiece. A game that executed its concepts so well that it 1. Got me into rougelikes and 2. Made me enjoy these top down perspective game that I always hated before
I was so naive playing this game, thinking that just the mechanics were amazing and that the art was captivating. But finally seeing your mom and the events that happen upon seeing her, I broke down a little. This music went right to the gut.
I have cried over and over returning to this spot. The music, the peace after the long struggle, the cruelty of the fates, and the love all tell a perfect story. Even in the confines of an isometric 2D game, they really broke out and connected in a deep way.
Although I’m late to the Hades party, I’ve been eyeing this game since last year after I found a love for Greek mythology. Just today I finally escaped on my 43rd run and just hearing this music while taking in the awe of the outside world like I was Zagreus himself just left such a profound impact on me that moment that I have never felt while playing any video game. A warm feeling bubbling in my chest with pride and awe at just how far me (and Zagreus) has come since our first escape attempt. Hearing this music swell during my first escape left me speechless and will be a moment I cherish for a long while as I continue to play other video games.
The first time i got to see the sun, i just stayed there, in complete awe. The music, the art, all the effort that took me to finally beat Hades... so many feelings all at once. Definitely one of the most magical moments i had in a videogame.
I just finished my first run after many, many tries. Hades is my first rogue-like. God I'm crying so much, this is why I chose to develop games so many years ago 💜
I REALLY REALLY wish we could go to the surface just to look around after beating the game. Maybe grab things from the farm to bring for the underworld garden? Grab a ride with Charon after? I just want that sunrise and that music swell again
The english horn is one of those instruments that makes me pause for a while when I first hear it. It always sounds so glorious it's a shame it's used so rarely in games.
@chobopanda Yeah, I think In the Blood echoes both this song and the classic me-ra-mi-do motif of the main theme. Probably other stuff as well if i listened harder lol
I don't know if I'm making this up, but around the 1:35 mark it kind of sounds like the same melody used as "in the blood". The composers of this game really were on the top of their game as always!
Nope, definitely intentional and completely awesome. You can hear it at 2:15 as well. "In the Blood" mixes themes from both "On the Coast" and "No Escape" to make the perfect "ending" song to this game. Really brings the whole thing full circle.
God, the start of this track is just... it's beautiful. The game is rewarding the player for their effort and struggle with a gorgeous piece full of mysticism and awe, and the game layers it down on the player without pulling punches. Truly a masterclass of a game.
3:08 when that plays in game and zag dies, taken by the styx, i get a feeling of anxiety. It’s very minor but this part of the songs rings as how a mystery beyond comprehension would sound like, such as death right at the moment where you had just begun to live how you wanted. The circumstances of your tragic death were brought by the unknown. Nobody knows exactly what causes death, is it fate? A decision? Omnipotent being dictating it? I just imagine these thoughts with this song. This game made me stumble on a beautiful, and memorable thought, that I’ll remember for a long time.
Just escaped the Underworld for the first time. I HAD to go back and listen to this again, just to hear its majesty one more time. I truly hope that I have that same incredible feeling of accomplishment when I escape again. Thank you, Supergiant!

I haven't felt emotionally drained to the point of tears like this since the end of NieR Automata
This track was such an amazing surprise.
The way they dealt with the timing in this song is absolutely perfect
Those last 40 seconds have the same energy as the scene in ratatouille where the critic takes a bite of the ratatouille and has a flashback the when he was a kid. and just like that scene, this song is truly magical.
There is nothing like the moment you arrive back into the house of hades after first hearing to this, the sheer determination to get back there
This track's a fitting reward for your first proper clear, and it perfectly encapsulates the feeling of Zagreus witnessing his first sunrise
This is the first and only soundtrack from anything to bring me to tears. Seemingly appropriate for a greek tragedy.
I literally feel the exact same; there’s something about the tone that hits *all* the right spots
Made me enjoy these top down perspective game that I always hated before
You can tell this one song had so much of Austin Wintorys flavor added to it, and it’s phenomenal.
I was so naive playing this game, thinking that just the mechanics were amazing and that the art was captivating. But finally seeing your mom and the events that happen upon seeing her, I broke down a little. This music went right to the gut.
This is what keeps you going after you beat your first run.
The story and the soundtrack are so beautiful.
Can't wait to reach the surface again.
this song makes me feel Emotions.
However long it takes.
2:45 I remember every time I reached this part of the story after beating the boss it was soothing. Made me want to keep doing it
It's always there
It's in the air
Your dearest kin
Below the skin
I have cried over and over returning to this spot. The music, the peace after the long struggle, the cruelty of the fates, and the love all tell a perfect story. Even in the confines of an isometric 2D game, they really broke out and connected in a deep way.
Each time this music played... I'd get so emotional. And still I keep remembering how satisfying it was to reach 'On the Coast'.
I need to have that Persephone part on loop. Chills and teary eyed always when that violin/cello starts.
This.
This make me cry
This make me happy
This is gold
The first time i got to see the sun, i just stayed there, in complete awe. The music, the art, all the effort that took me to finally beat Hades... so many feelings all at once. Definitely one of the most magical moments i had in a videogame.
I just finished my first run after many, many tries. Hades is my first rogue-like.
God I'm crying so much, this is why I chose to develop games so many years ago 💜
как же цепляет. Слезу хочется пустить.
2:45 гениально.
I was so happy, and so touched I cried when I heared this for the first time..
I love how its sooo different than the other themes, it just gives such a peaceful vibes and makes me think how violent the underworld is actually
The starting reminds me so much of the first Narnia movie.. Especially Mr.Tumnus' lullaby... Truly a beautiful peice of music
I REALLY REALLY wish we could go to the surface just to look around after beating the game. Maybe grab things from the farm to bring for the underworld garden? Grab a ride with Charon after? I just want that sunrise and that music swell again
same
The english horn is one of those instruments that makes me pause for a while when I first hear it. It always sounds so glorious it's a shame it's used so rarely in games.
When you finally make it for the first time and you see the coast. Just perfect.
Great ost. not only is it beautiful, but the impact it has for the story, and zagreus' feelings, is immense.
This is incredible. The first time you hear this music in-game is heartbreaking. Love the game, love the music. ❤
1:20 i love how these are the same chord changes as the chorus to In The Blood. It even goes to the bridge at 2:15
@chobopanda Yeah, I think In the Blood echoes both this song and the classic me-ra-mi-do motif of the main theme.
"This family... has to stop running... from it's problems!"
We're waiting a live orchestra of this master piece! 💖
2:45
Chills... every. single. time.
This whole song just feels… cinematic. Hats off, Darren Korb, as usual, you’ve outdone yourself.
Just escaped the Underworld for the first time. I HAD to go back and listen to this again, just to hear its majesty one more time. I truly hope that I have that same incredible feeling of accomplishment when I escape again. Thank you, Supergiant!
I like that in this song you can hear motives from "In the Blood" (possibly...)
I'm not crying YOU'RE CRYING
We are crying
2:14 "Run all you like/ From the place you belong.."
