i like CSfor the simple easy tactical stuff not too hard you can do it very well with your brain turned off.
siege i like because its the same but on giga 200iq mode; a game that depending on the match or how you feel that day you can play with immense focus and it pays of massively.
valorant is kind of a middleground between the two
you have the unique abilities of siege but the cs maps and more predictable gameplay due to not being able to switch agents per round. for me this middle ground isnt exactly working out.
so im mostly playing siege and CS.
havent even touched valorant since i got my new pc.
also valorant somehow still managed to feel more complicated than siege even tho thecharacter roster is smaller because every agent has 3-4 unique abilities.
also in siege if i feel an op isnt working out midmatch, i can pivot to a different one next round. in valo; tough luck gotta feel like garbage and take the L.

Unless year 9 is an operation health year preparing for year 10, I can’t see siege making it to year 10 at this rate of decline.
The lack of content only has two possibilities in my mind:
    1. Ubisoft is reducing the funding for siege content.
    2. Or they are making Siege 2 with a new game engine.
If they make siege 2, I am fine with them spending a few years just bringing the operators from launch to year 4 season 1. Then from there, have 1-2 old ops per season and every other season, have a new operator.

@@Soliye. To be honest, I don’t want the gameplay to be realistic like COD MW or Ready or Not. That is not what I want from siege. I want a Counter Strike 2 type of update.
(And an Overwatch 2 update would be fine if they didn’t mess up the in game economy)
Keep the reticle locked in the enter of the screen. Make destruction serve for gameplay, not realism.
As someone who’s played siege since Year 2, I recognize that siege was meant to be an esports game since they abandoned Rainbow Six Patriots. They collaborated with the ESL before they changed the name from Patriots to Siege. Only the trailers and situations were realistic.
Another thing I want is for 3 speeds and 1 speeds to walk at different speeds while aiming like we had a year ago and prior. Siege’s movement is just way too slow now! The slow sim down sight speed is fine. But SMGs are just so strong now with the lack of movement for attackers with assault rifles in a gunfight.

Your point is valid tho, I feel like adding destruction, even if strict, would be great in those competitive games to add variety.
But in general we don't have games like the OG vision of R6S (not talking about Patriot). CoD is FAR from that and nor is it realistic. RoN is great, as a singleplayer SWAT game.
Personally I'm not into that whole competitive aspect of games, they turn me off quickly. I enjoy being allowed to play how I want. The advanced movements & map destruction was what brought me into Siege in the first place.

I think the tough learning curve is what most stops this game from being more popular, it’s just so punishing to new players. But I love the new stuff they’ve done for new players like the map learning. It’s actually extremely helpful to learn the layouts quickly. The only thing holding stuff like this back is that they don’t have it for all the maps yet and it’s not really easy to find in menus if you don’t know it’s there. They should label it better than just training. I wish there was more beginner training stuff in general: full matches with just bots and no other real players, better tutorials for map setup, games to shoot pings and targets through floors/getting used to vertical play. Siege just has so many unique mechanics to introduce on top of one shot head shots and no respawns.

    (Long Long Long Rant warning!)
For me, my trouble with enjoying siege is that it feels like a lot of the guns don't serve a individual/specific purpose and when they do by accident (p10 roni for instance) they tend to get nerfed because they usually make for good fragging capability. Like take Cavs pistol, it serves a purpose, to down people for interrogations, or deimos revolver, too not only just balance his ability, but also for him to be able wallbang people.
A good example of other games that have this same concept is Counter-strike. (aware they play differently).
Take the p250, its purpose is to be a cheap eco option for eco rounds with it only being $250.
Or take the m4a4 and m4a1-s....The m4a4 has a higher fire rate, but a looser spray pattern, so it serves holding close range angles and sites a lot better than the m4a1-s which purpose is more suited to mid and long angles, due too its tighter spray pattern and lower fire rate.
I also don't think it's bad if multiple hold the same purpose, p250 and a five seven are very similar except 1 is much more reliable (better spray), but at a higher price of 500.
obviously the implementation wouldn't be the same in siege, it would be closer too what the role of the operator is, and what purpose you would want them too serve, kind of like thatcher, his gun isn't great, but its good and reliable, its accurate and it does well too hold angles on the breach, but also leaves room for adaptability.
Where as the p10 roni doesn't have as many purposes, but serves 1 purpose incredibly well which is that 1v1 capability, but doesn't do nearly as well on countering team executes.
TLDR, I think have the weapons server a good purpose makes the game much easier too balance but makes thing just a tad, a little bit easier for people too learn, at least in theory, my game theory.

Personally my friend boosted and paid someone to get him to emerald. We had a rough season all normally plat but the past 3 seasons he had been awful. The season he boosted he was jealous we hit gold 3 and that’s when he got boosted and since then I have not enjoyed playing siege I am stuck silver 5. But I’ve boosted him to plat 1. The fact he got plat 1 while me and the other carry are silver 4. Kind of kills siege for me

I think this Ubisoft needs to decide now what they want this game to be. I dont think there is much balancing to be done. Personally, i think this game should lean to a tactical slow and methodical style of gameplay. Despite the arguments I've heard about how that's never how the game was since scopes have been removed and lean/crouch spamming reduced the game during that time was also incredibly utility focused. Even after Jaeger had lost his acog he was likely the most popular defender across the board between pros, casual, and ranked. Why? Because utility was strong! It had a major impact! There was less wall denial and less hard breach so we saw more thermite, thatcher, and bandit. Back then Thatcher could destroy gadgets too. A lot of gadgets either faced steep competition or were nerfed to the point where they rarely dictated matches. This all went away probably a few seasons after Warden's release. Back then teams had to balance gun play with their gadgets which is what siege is all about. But when gadgets take a back seat the game becomes more kill focused. I miss the standoffs on both sides as both sides are utilizing their utility to prevent or open the wall. It was a skillful and always interesting dynamic which is never seen nowadays.

It's not even the actual elo anymore bro. If your hidden MMR that they matchmake off of is high enough, you're playing Diamond+ spinbotters on a Copper/Bronze acc. The sbmm is what's killing the game with these cheaters. I played on my main, Goldly. and I'm getting cheaters every single game. I have yet to have a game without cheaters in it in the 20 I've played. My alt, GuysImWalling, hasn't played in almost three years, and I recently tried ranked on it. I've had ONE single cheater in the 12 games I've played there.

Pretty much every multiplayer game with ranked matchmaking has been using MMR for a looooong time. Theoretically matchmaking is way better with hidden MMR over matching by rank. The problem almost always lies in HOW the MMR system is weighted. Is it wins? KD? Score? If I play support and make a huge impact every game but get low kills am I going to advance my mmr at a slower rate than someone who plays frag?

    • @phatt5625

One of the worst changes Ubisoft did was get rid of the select fire feature for some weapons, it’s one thing if the weapon doesn’t have that feature in real life, it’s another if it does, I would love for that to be brought back, along with old recruits and other features to keep in the tactical shooter space instead of being another cod or battlefield which it shouldn’t be, there a lot that Ubisoft needs to do as a whole to get better, one of them is stop catering to pro players who complain about everything.

It’s because of the learning curve that is required for siege lets be honest you have to learn every map, spot, strategy because if you don’t you can get bosg sniped from a peak you didn’t know existed. The ppl who have played for a long time know every single detail on each map. Ranked is okay until ppl don’t talk and you have cheaters on opposite teams tearing you apart and you lose so much but gain so little for winning. It can be tiring to play and unmotivating when you lose.Playing with people that are randoms that are cheating sucks bc you get punished and you don’t even know the other people on your team are cheating you can’t leave the game and keep rank you either get banned for a hour for leaving or lose rank that you worked hard to get. It’s really annoying and demotivating (Emerald player experience)

For the biggest problem in Siege is the way Ubisoft balances the game and the recent changes that made the game feel like it's League but with guns instead of a complex version of CS/Valorant especially the gunfights. In CS/Valorant I'm rewarded because of mechanical skills but in Siege it's 50/50 due to Ubisoft is trying to get rid of good players specifically the ADS and Recoil Change (constantly changing)

I started siege around 2020 and I remember the main reason I wanted to put more time into it was because my cousin paid 60$ to have me play with him. I don’t think I would have put up with spawn peaks and runouts if it wasn’t for the fact that he spent money and I felt guilty. But over 1000 hours later I still play today and though I have fun casually I gave up the ranked grind. It doesn’t feel rewarding when even in gold lobbies I have to wonder if they are walling and aim botting. I’ve had blatant cheaters in my games to the point where I just don’t care about ranked anymore. There’s nothing to prove to myself when I’m playing against literal cheaters.

Siege is too inconsistent with WHAT it is. I fell in love with the game at launch for it's crackhead twitchy runout nonsense with ACOG machine pistols and then even more in love with the quick lean peeks so when they made the decision to drastically slow down all the gunplay and animations I stopped playing.
I know people who love R6 as a slow tac shooter brand and stopped playing as soon as they realized that the stuff I loved was in the game.
CS was well established as a bomb defusal hardcore esports game at least by the game GO came out, and spent the last 15 years making tiny tweaks to that formula.
VALORANT just copied CS 1.6 and added MOBA elements on top of it with the exact same rules and ideas.
Siege didn't even start as a multiplayer game. It then became serious and tactical, then quickly twitchy and hyper arcade, and now has been toned back down to a slower tactical game. It went through multiple competitive game modes, and very different design directions both aesthetically and world building, and gameplay wise.

It’s a niche game, with very high ttk, which always makes the bar of entry for noobs much higher. Not only is it an fps where unless your used to something like tarkov or hell let loose; playing it like a ‘normal’ fps would kill you dead faster than you can hit the uninstall button. It’s also incredibly complicated, with a tutorial that’s completely shit. That’s two strikes against new players. Most people don’t have the time to watch a two hour r6 for noobs video, they just want to play their new fps. And what happens when they do that? They spend half the time dead. No wonder it can’t get new players, this shits got the deck stacked against you from day one.

Trying to learn over 70 different operators that takes 100s of hours to unlock and changes with each round instead of match makes the game very 'random' at first. The Siege community has rigged itself in such a way, that after the current generation of players either retires, or dies, the game itself will.
The majority of the community is very toxic, and therefore repells any potential new players.
So in a way, the community has essentially "sterilized" itself. After they leave, who's gonna pick up the game and keep the community alive? Nobody, because they've all been chased away

Siege is unpopular because of a few things : Nerfs being the ONLY balancing choice the devs ever do , and the cheater situation and also the rivaling games are actually capable of holding up their end well by balancing characters better. Ubisoft only looks at numbers to balance things but they forget to consider how nerfing 1 gun now affects more than 1 operator. And finally it's also how they remove any form of reward for creativity. Cooking nades being removed , their damage thru surfaces being reduced , all that type of strats being removed makes the game too stale as in their attempt to make everything fair only by nerfing everything , it all becomes lame and boring.

  • @ColdMetalFinger

Balancing is achieved via an infinite death spiral of nerfs. Anything the community gravitates to is deemed a "problem." Cheating will not be addressed because enough people play it and spend money to where they don't feel any pressure towards their bottom line.

Siege is unpopular (to me) because there's just too many "but"s.
"We can play ranked, BUT, theres cheaters"
"You can play ranked, BUT, theres hidden MMR and you'll usually match with emeralds and diamonds"
"You can learn to play this op, BUT, theres a lot of different details and strats"
"You can use that gun, BUT, theres no more ACOG/1.5x on it"
"You can frag out with a cool character, BUT, they have harder recoil"
"You can not ban Fenrir, BUT, he's really annoying to deal with"
Other games may not be similar, but its a lot easier to get into. I can just boot up Val and play some ranked when I'm focused, or unranked to have fun with ranked rules. In Siege, I can play unranked, BUT, theres no bans and its only one OT round.

You could play literally the way you wanted and not feel restrictive. Saw something you could lay under or on top? Go ahead. A grenade landed to your feet? Tosse it back.
I’d also argue the old recoil system was way less sweaty. It worked fine. You just had to care for how you engage.
Out of my 1500+ hrs, it took me about 200 to realize I was not enjoying this game anymore for many reasons. And it’s the fact the game wants you to care about winning. Back then I really didn’t, I just wanted to play how I wanted in casual and do things differently. Especially with a friend group.
