- I took my American friend Jason on a road trip to Sudbury, Ontario. Supposedly they’re famous for Porchetta, so we tried it at 4 different places, and played Porchetta Bingo to win even more Porchetta! Throw in the world’s Biggest Nickel and some Karaoke. It was also the town where my Grandfather first became a barber in Canada when he came from Italy.

Sooo happy to be back travelling around with Jason making vids! This was a wild, food heavy experience...is there any other way? Curious, have you been to the Big Nickel?
I live here, I eat porketta all the time.
Yes, I was born in Sudbury in 1965, still go back home every summer to visit family. I remember the Big Nickel being there my whole life, mining is the life blood of this city, my family has been working in the mining industry for generations.
@@wanupgirl Overtime had great porketta bingo, Smiths makes a good one, Caras has a good sandwich, Peppi Paninis has a good one...
I grew up there when there was also a big penny and big dime along side the Big Nickel. Let's see who remembers that...
@@AfterMath342 I don’t but the mount for the penny is along hey 17 at some guys house.
Lots of people know that Sudbury is called The Big Nickel because the region had/has one of the world's largest nickel deposits, but lots of people don't know that this is because, not only was the earth naturally rich in nickel in that area, it was then hit by a massive meteorite which was also mostly made out of nickel. The Sudbury Basin is the third largest impact crater on earth and debris from it can be found as far away is Minnesota. I always enjoyed sitting on the ridge and looking down on the lights of the city.
Yeah when I got hired for Boart Longyear they flew me there then we drove to Laval to Norcat mine for Common Core training for Underground mining/drilling. We got a smoke stack in Flin Flon where I'm from as well, but I think Sudbury's is 50meters taller maybe.
Born and raised in Sudbury (via Copper Cliff in Little Italy in the shadow of the Superstack - literally!) now living on Vancouver Island. My father was a butcher and would make porchetta. I still make it today. The Regency is our first stop when we return to visit family and porchetta is a must (and Deluxe chicken on a bun). You guys were terrific and did a great job promoting Sudbury! Keep up the great videos. Go Wolves!
@@wanupgirl Yeah not bad. But stay away from their burgers. It's basically a dog food paddy on a bun. Yuck! My buddy and I went there for lunch one day and each got a burger. We both got sick in the parking lot back at the job site. I called and asked the manager where they got their burger paddies and he told me he didn't know because they came in a clear bag. Last time I EVER ate there. That's 14 years ago now.
You want a good chicken on a bun? Go to Mary Brown's you won't regret it.
Since you are in Sudbury Jason should sing Stompin' Tom Connors Sudbury Saturday Night. Can it get any more Canadian than that?
I vote for a Canada's wonderland video this summer!
The karaoke was the best part!! Thank you for showing off Sudbury, it was so great seeing it through your "eyes"
So ashamed as a proud Canadian that I didn't know big nickel country was known for their porchetta
I didn't know either, it was a great surprise to learn. Sudbury's secret!
Yuppers
We don't advertise it, but when out of towners come in we show them. We like surprising people with it lol
Dude im from sudbury and I didnt know this 😅
You guys just keep topping yourselves with every video. That was hysterically awesome.
THANK YOU!! 😆
Cheers from Sudbury. Another little fact is that, Sudbury was hit by one of the largest meteors ever many many moons ago. So we are actually the Sudbury basin, also filled with many different minerals, suck as nickel.
7:59 - Joseph's perfect improv riff on the Jim Gaffigan Canadian Tyre joke - only with cheese curds and a nickel. Hilarious!!! 😂🤣😂😁❤️💕
I have lived in Sudbury for almost 20 years now and I haven't been to Peppi Panini's. After watching this- I'm going tomorrow!
I'd love to see how it compares to Tarini's!
Glad you guys had fun while you were here :)
Awesomeness!! Thanks for visiting our great city!!!!
Loved every second of this.
I've been to Sudbury only once, but it was incredible to see the giant nickle, and to then do the nickle mine tour afterwards.
It was awesome meeting you guys at Little Montreal! Great video!!
Hey!! it was a pleasure! Awesome to meet you too!
Stompin Tom statue is wicked! Great video once again! Cheers
How you didnt stop at the beef and bird for porchetta, I will never know
was closed for private event the day we were there :(
@@JosephD oh so sad. Makes sense though. Will need to return to our city.
Love it! I’m from Sudbury and I’m working night shift as a mechanic at the big smoke stack right now watching this lol right on boys gotta get out for a good ol Sudbury Saturday Night!
I live in Sudbury! And porketta bingo was something I did with my dad, somehow he always had a ticket for a free pound of porketta, we called it his Pity Pound 😄
I have more than one friend who lives in Toronto and always buys a porketta roast from Tarini's on Lorne to bring home, get yourselves some, gentlemen!
Tarini's is one of my favourite places in the world. It's like meat heaven.
Fantastic to see you both 😃 two wonderful and gorgeous soles🙏 thank you for bring joy to anyone thats come across you both on RUclips 😄
I was born in Sudbury in 1963 and had my childhood there now I live in Oakville. So hi neighbour. Sudbury is also known for Science North and for Laurention University and of course INCO. I remember as a child going to watch the hot molten slag being dumped down the hill in Sudbury it looked like lava and it was very interesting to watch from a distance. Ahh the entertainment of my early childhood. Glad you liked my birth place. I certainly do. Have a great day to both of you
When my Sudburian husband was trying to persuade me to move there, he took me to see the slag dumping. Strangely I didn’t find that very convincing 😆
I was at the Trevi!! You guys kept winning!! Lol
hahah, ya that was crazy
OMG! Lived in North Bay all my life, and spent half as much in Sudbury and never knew about the porchetta obsession or porchetta bingo! Love love loved this episode!
Same
One of the worst things covid has taken from us is your videos!!! I've truly enjoyed this!!!❤🇨🇦❤🇨🇦❤
Can you take him to Québec city? Maybe partner with a bilingual Québécois to show you both around?
I’d love to see the culture shock in old Québec, a very European style castle walled city built long before Canada was a country.
So much history and culture.
Bonus points if you go in January during the winter carnival
Porchetta in Sudbury is such a real thing. Great video, thanks!
I loved the idea of the "bingo" playing cards for food, I think that is so funny.
the best part, not really shown, is if somebody screws up and calls "porchetta" and they actually didn't win, the crowd typically yells "You F*cked up"
there are several bars in town that has Porchetta Bingo, usually as a charity fund raiser.
The most famous place for it, The Beef and Bird, wasn't shown
@@andrewrice7242 I was just gonna say, where’s the Bird?
@@andrewrice7242 beef and bird is great, I still prefer trevi's though personally
I head up to the North Land in 10 days for the first time in 2 years due to Covid. I thought nothing could make me happier than seeing my boyfriend in Canada for Christmas, but now I know I was wrong. Seeing my boyfriend and eating pork shoulder in various ways is obviously where it's at🤪🇺🇸🇨🇦Merry Christmas Joseph and Jason!! Your videos make my heart happy. 💟
😂
That's great. We missed you! Welcome back to Canada eh! 🇨🇦
You guys put a real smile on my face. 100%.
I haven't been getting notifications for a long time. Totally forgot about the channel.
Great video!
Thank you!! Glad to have you back here!!
If you went all the way up there. You should also go to Sault Ste. Marie and try all of there pizza. Some really good ones to try up there.
Like so many, I haven't been able to go home in a couple years now. Home is and always will be Sudbury. Thank you for making me feel happy and sad. Making me very homesick, especially for the holidays.
Merci beaucoup!
You two are hilarious together!! Loved every moment!
Well done guys! With Covid many people have discovered the coolness of the area. You did it proud and you didn’t even get to a bbq at someone’s camp.
This feels like the first time I'm seeing a video about my hometown ever. And it's about sandwhiches I've never even tried. 😢
I live in Sudbury, I'm glad you came saw and enjoyed.
You guys are hilarious! Jason's karaoke was brillaint - he got up there and didn't even have to make a fool of himself (not like you Joseph, LOL) 10 out of 10 nickels for this video - the American stole the show! 😂😂
That shot of Jason piling that big slab of porchetta on the bun made me drool! Ain't nothing better than a big junk of hot meat on bread and a frosty cold beer! As Canadian as it gets! 🍖🥪🍺
Ah my hometown! Grew up in New Sudbury and lived there for 28 years before moving to Ottawa. Often miss my hometown! Keep up the great content!
I so enjoyed this video!! I have family who live in Sudbury! Porchetta bingo! 😂
Thank you for this. I love seeing you guys be together.
I live in Sudbury and have been watching your channel for years! What a treat to see a video about my home town.
This just made my day. I love your humour! (humor)
I love your content and here you are in my hometown! Legendary!
Seeing my town in a video is so surreal.
And just so you know, often the captions say 'poor cat' instead of porchetta, which makes me laugh.
The Trevi… a five minute walk from my house. My uncle used to work at the Trevi and sadly passed away a couple years ago in the building. Although there’s so much family history in that building, it’s very hard to walk into the building. But so much legacy and history behind the resturant… a Sudburian staple.
Thank you for this amazing video showcasing our great town. ♥️
OMG you two!!! You have so much fun making us hungry :P Best wishes to you both for the new year.
Thank you Maureen!
Looks like a fun road trip. Great to see you guys do these trips and try the local food.
Born in Sudbury, my parents belonged to the Caruso Club which had porchetta bingo way way back.
Cool seeing a video of my town !
Karaoke -Anything by Celine Dion
Omg “Ahhhh shut up a ya face” 😂😂😂
Thanks boys, now I need to get some Porchetta from Sudbury....I was up there three years ago and didn't know it was a thing...
So happy to see you funny fellas on the road again!! I always enjoy your videos and am guaranteed to LMAO.
Im in Sudbury!!! Had i seen you guys, i would have giggled uncontrollably…im such a geek. You guys are splenda to watch. Thank you for what you do
Love your videos! It puts a smile on my face. Being from Niagara Falls, Ontario and formerly a regular cross border traveller … I got across the border last Friday to see a friend in Lockport, NY, for the fist time in two years. We went to Molinaro’s Ristorante and talked and laughed and ate for several hours. Great times.
We just made it because they just closed up the border again as you probably well know, unless you want to pay to have the Covid test coming back into Canada. Hopefully it won’t be another two years before we get back together!
I was so pumped to see a sudbury porketta video. I was kind of hoping one of you would mess up to experience the chirps from the crowd.
Have an exceptional Christmas, and New year, for both you, and Jason, and each family!
Take care, and all the best.
You made me homesick. So many memories from college to when I moved back to North Bay 10 years ago. Thanks for this.
How have you guys not been picked up by Food Network? Love watching your show on the big TV in the living room!
Omg when your favourite American-Canadian duo is in your home town!🥳🤩
Omg nickel city cheese curds are heaven. My parents just moved away from sudbury down south, and I bought 80 bucks worth of curds cuz I dont know when I'll ever go back...
Boy, oh boy! This took me back and made me laugh.
12:49 - hilarious! 🤣 Arby's should hire these guys to make and star in their ads! Seriously. 🤔😲😁
That was an awesome karaoke pick by Jason. He wins lol.
Born in raised in the nickel city. Cheers fellas!
Man I loved that opening Simpsons reference. This is turning into my favourite channel.
That's where A&W did their dollar coffee commercial
Good morning everyone ❤
here in manitoba its Italian pulled pork. and family didn't know about the nickle there. glad ur 2 are mobile again
When my grandparents came to Canada from Czechoslovakia my grandfather worked in the mines in Sudbury, this was in the 1930s before they had modern equipment and it was done by hard labour. My dad was born there 85 years ago and is still doing well.
great video. love that tyson from letterkenny is actually jay from peppi panini! so cool that they brought in a local business owner to be on the show
Jason, it's time for beef on weck. I get mine at Roxie's Place in Lake Worth, Florida.
Now THAT'S how you karaoke. Excellent performance!!! 🤣😂🤣
To be clear, Jason's not Joseph's! 🤪😁😂 - Joseph went full out in the other direction which was equally interesting and hilarious in its oppositeness! 😂 But seriously, I'm a sucker for anyone who attempts karaoke, much less can karaoke a tune 😁, which, in the very brief clip, it looks like Joseph did, so genuine big props to him too! Can't ever hate the peeps who just wanna entertain! ❤️
Of all the places to go and you chose Sudbury. I kid! Thanks for another great video!
OK, I'm officially intrigued by BBQ cheese curds. I'm a bad Canadian for not having had those.
Being a longtime subscriber, I love all your videos, but seeing you guys in my hometown, this one was particularily fun!
Great video guys. This video made my day. Life has been trying, but this video made the day A+.
Ah! Welcome to my hometown! I'm glad to see you had a fun time here!
As usual, a very entertaining and funny video. Keep them coming, you two are a lot of fun to watch ! 😂
I love your road trips. This video made me so hungry for porchetta which I never heard of before but looks so good. Great video again guys!
Also, im so happy to see other small business owners on here ; such a great way for business owners to get their food and word out about them. Jay makes such amazing food,
These videos just make me happy. Keep up the fantastic work!
I was there in 1982 and the local mine used to give tours underground until the mine collapsed.
The “ big nickel “ comes from Inco mines which mines nickel
I really love seeing you guys do these roads trips. I miss going out with my buddy for drinks, bruschetta and trouble😂😂 I'm going to have a smile on my face for the rest of the day, you truly made my day. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇺🇸🇺🇸
You both are SO funny!! I never knew about Porchetta...now I do ! LOL, at Jason with his Karaoke pick...I need to do that song whenever my friends pester me to get up there and sing. Another fantastic video, gentlemen !!!
When Joe says “to be fair..”, I half expected Jay Bertin to sing it back to him.
From a resident of Sudbury. I hope you guys had fun.
This was so much fun to watch. Great video.
I'm so sad you didn't play "Sudbury Saturday Night" by the legend himself, Stompin Tom Connors.
My home town, great job guys.
You guys should sing 12 days of christmas bob and doug McKenzie style
My BBF of all time also did Tequilla at Karaoke . He passed away many years ago. This brought back many great memories. Thank you Jason.
Well done guys I'm proud you visit here in Sudbury where I am.
Joe Dolce....lol
Great Vid Guys!
LOVE PEPPI PANINI!!!! I use to hit that place up once a week when I did deliveries up there.
Glad you guys came up here. I love Regency Bakery's porchetta the best. I actually make some awesome porchetta sausages!
I lived in Sudbury once. It's a great town. You guys are awesome :)
edit: that huge building that's all painted in many colours... it used to be a hospital
Ya I know I believe that is the hospital that I was born in
@@sparkle5ms small world :)
@@sparkle5ms St. Joseph's hospital. I was also born there. I wish they would implode that building it's such an eyesore. They should have made a casino out of it with all the rooms and the view of the lake and city. It would have been a good investment. But now?......
@@sparkle5ms same that’s where I was born ayo
@@jerryleroy9187 Apparently, there's nothing Sudbury can do with that building because a company bought it with plans to turn it into something, but wound up basically just gutting it of the copper piping anything else of value, and backing out. I'm not 100% sure if that's true, though.
Sudbury is a "One Arch Town". You should have had a chicken on a bun at Deluxe the next day.
Peppi Panini looks sooooooo amazing! Thank you soooooooo much for the entertaining and informative video!
Joseph always does that song, it’s his jam !
I’ve lived in Sudbury - home of the Big Nickel all my life. We have the Best Porchetta going, bar none. We even have Porchetta Bingo every Saturday afternoon at the bars.
