    Nice.
    I like the matrix use.
    Can you explain how/why it works?
    At first, I thought about using the Heron's formula - but too many square roots.
    Then, I got the area of the inscribing rectangle and subtracted the "other" triangle.
    Rectangle: (5-(-3))*(5-(-2))=8*7=56
    Top triangle: 8*(5-4)/2=8*1/2=4
    "Right" triangle: 7*(5-1)/2=7*4/2=14
    Left triangle: (1-(-3))*(4-(-2))/2=4*6/2=12
    "The" triangle: 56-(4+14+12)=56-30=26 ∎
    I've noticed that you can halve the area of the rectangle and subtract half the area of the upper right rectangle (with diagonal coordinates: (1,4) and (5,5)) 56/2 - 4*1/2 = 28-2 = 26... this is the same as subtracting half the triangles' rectangles where that upper rectangle's half gets subtracted twice...

    Super complicated example. This is how to do it: 1/2 * abs * abs = 1/2*52 = 26 (15 sec calculation)

    • @PreMath
      @PreMath  4 года назад +2

      Hello dear, if the answer is negative, then simply write as positive AS THE AREA IS ALWAYS POSITIVE! Thanks for asking. Please watch this video on this topic as well. It will make everything clear to you 😀

    Please help. i have a triangle with the coordinates: Q(0,17) P(4,1) O(0,0). Everytime i do this method, i always end up with -34 as the area. But my answer booklet says the answer is 34. I have tried this with different coordinates as x1 in different orders. but i am still wrong. Is if somthing to do with one of the coordinates being the origin?

    what is my determinant is negative? do i just write it as positive in the answer because area cannot be negative?

    • @PreMath
      @PreMath  3 года назад +3

      Dear Mafizur, even if the value turns out to be negative, just make it positive (take absolute value) as you rightly mentioned that the area can't be negative!
      Thanks for asking.
