- I've had a few requests for a kayak trailer video, and here it (finally) is! The keen-eyed observer will note a few changes to it since my last videos, but I just couldn't put out a video on something 'til I've done a few more mods first.
Below are links to all the crap I bought to make this happen...thanks to the wife for her uhh, contributions, and for filming.

This is brilliant. I just inherited a similar utility trailer and was looking for ideas to make it suitable for kayak transport and other recreational uses. You have shown me more than I imagined!
Thx so much! I've been pretty lazy lately and need to do another video, but that trailer has gotten even crazier/cooler (?) since you've last seen it. Stay tuned!
@@kayplainsdrifter136 Looking forward to seeing more. Let me guess ... lighting?
Actually, no...even more crazy than that!
Great trailer, lots of thought went into it.
Thx so much! I'll actually be dropping an update video on the trailer soon, a lot more work has been since this.
I have the same exact rack on my trailer. My trailer is 4 foot wide. I flipped the rack uprights so the curve goes outward. It works perfectly and didn’t need to modify it in any way. The top of the rack is wider that way, about as wide as my fenders
Awesome! Did you get the one for compact pickups? I've tried flipping it like that but these actually don't have long enough tube material (TWSS) in the middle to do that. 😕
I'm thinking I may get a Malone product to add some diff bars up top. I've had to take these off to load my new kayak which is wider.
Thx for watching!
@@kayplainsdrifter136 yes mine was a Maxxhaul brand or something like that. Good to know the tubes are too short on other brands. If you’re looking to be thrifty and save money, it’s standard pipe size they sell at big box hardware stores to get longer middle.
@@kylehowe1226 That's very helpful to know! Is the pipe you're talking about the metal conduit in the electrical section?
@@kylehowe1226 Also, I think mine was the AA Racks or something like that.
@@kayplainsdrifter136 In the plumbing section with the black iron pipe. It’s not the iron pipe but a thinner type. I bet you could find conduit to work as well
An additional thumbs up for the singer.❤
Oh no, please don't encourage my wife! 😂🤣😂🤣😂.
In all seriousness, she'll be so happy to hear you said this.
I love the set up, its pretty cool. Thanks. I love the singing at the end it made me laugh and smile. god bless you guys.
Thanks, really appreciate the positive feedback, except I'm worried about you encouraging my wife too much 😂. In all seriousness, we try to have some fun and I'm glad you got to join in that as well.
Great job ,well done, proves what can be done with a small trailer..
Thx so much! Sometimes when what you start off with is smaller, you just have to put in some extra work 😉
Excellent. Love the sturdiness and the versatility.
Thanks so much! I'm probably going to do a couple of minor mods this spring, but I'm still a fan of this trailer setup.
@@kayplainsdrifter136 Your creativity will drive you to many mods on most things. It's just what we do. Cheers.
@@nmolinaro62 Too bad I'm not this creative on anything that could make some money 😂
Wow, awesome video! Thanks for all the details!
Thx, really appreciate that!
Fantastic video lots of great ideas
Thx man! Hopefully it can be helpful to you in your projects!
Couldnt you just turn the ladder racks 180 degrees and that would give you a lot more width for wider kayaks?
Unfortunately not. I've tried this but the center bar is not long enough to accomodate the wider span. I'm currently in process of doing some additional trailer mods though, so sub so you can get the updates to this project.
Thx for watching!
Uh......wow
Yep
best part of the video was the wife lol....
Please don't encourage my wife. Once you she gets a taste of positive feedback, she'll keep coming back for more and won't migrate. 🤣
Thanks for watching...I'll pass this along to her. You def made her day!
😂
