  • The MacMaster is in Orlando Florida at Denny's to review their Lumberjack Slam. Buttermilk Pancakes, Grilled Ham, Bacon Strips, Sausage Links, Eggs, Hash Browns and White Toast and is struggling to find something nice to say about this breakfast that seems to be yet again, mass produced processed junk food.

Watching this now. I ate Denny's in Orlando, the food was quite simply terrible, veggies boiled to mush like we did in the UK in the 70s. I was with my girlfriend at the time along with my Dad and Step Mum, I remember really winding him up because he was 55 and eligible for Senior Citizen discount which he was too embarrassed to ask for 😂😂 Thing is I am 56 now myself, he is no longer with us and it seems like yesterday 😢😢

That's like me going to the UK and basing food culture on Weatherspoon's or Toby's? If he dislikes it here so much then why keep coming back?

I found interesting the "happy" staff who were having a discussion behind you. You were too generous. Having tried 3 different Denny's, I would never go there again, even though I can get a 15% discount. Much of the food is low quality, what is served often does not match the menu description, and service is usually poor. The one thing they do right is put the calories on the menu. Most of those breakfasts have more than I could consume in a day.

I'll give it a 6.5/10. Not the greatest meal, but by far the worst either.
I agree with all the criticisms you mentioned, also agree with "I just want a coffee!!!" travelling to places like Australia, and just wanting a cup of tea, be prepared to be asked "which tea would you prefer?" When they say "Engish breakfast?" I say "no thanks, I've already eaten". Have had a few 😀, but also a few 🙄(I get it, it's a bit of 'Dad joke') from the servers. They also ask you "would you like milk with that?". The default option ALWAYS should be the 'English Breakfast' blend, and with milk. If the customer wants anything different, then let the customer tell you... otherwise, crack on with it, and don't ask the customer 1,001 questions, when he wants to be left in peace!
It gets annoying VERY quickly - esp. when you go up for a second cup of tea.
Hope you had a safe flight back to NYC (given that you'll have already done the trip). 👍

Denny's always seems like a good idea; big diverse menus, diner-style, open late, etc but it usually disappoints. Some are better than others though, I guess it depends on the franchisee. Wherever there is Denny's there is often a La Quinta Inn as they had a co-location strategy which tells you a lot about the brand itself. I think 6/10 is a fair score. Personally, I prefer independent diners in the US; they tend to be better quality and better value. Next time in the US could you do a video on the Cheesecake Factory? Keep up the good work Lee and many congratulations on reaching the 100K subscribers milestone.

It's ARTISAN bread! 😆 Gosh, the bacon looks like it's hanging on by a thread of life 🫤 How can they call them link sausages 🥹 The ham/gammon looks the best thing for me. I don't like USA pancakes so can't comment on them, they really put me off lol.
When you say the hash wasn't as good, do you mean not as cooked?! Haha!!! Yeh not as grilled lol! I can't go very high on that as it really, nearly all failed! I'd go like 4........ .2..... maybe, but it was pricey, so maybe a 3.9?! I saw your Facebook post where you said it was rated too high, and yeh, a 6 was TOO high!!

Its almost 10 years since I was last in florida, Dennys wasn't great then, on my return home a friend said I should have tried Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Don't know if its much better as I haven't been back to try it.

Went to Denny's outside the Stratosphere hotel in Vegas in 2017 the building was way past its sell by date but the food and service was good. Found all American food sloppy but loved the ribs in the shopping area opposite the Pawn stars shop talked with the chef cool man.

That Denny’s was my first impression of American food- my old man had told me I’d LOVE American food as it was cheap plentiful and amazing, well maybe in the 60s, but in the 2000’s…I wasn’t too impressed let’s say….but still not as bad as Perkins across and down the road….🤢

I know what you mean about different Dennys. We went to one in Vancouver last year, we usually love Dennys been loads of time, this one was hard to find and when we did find it there was a psychotic homeless person refusing to come out of the toilet but it didn't seem to bother the staff and my wife got food poisoning from the chicken! We then went to a Dennys in anaheim a totally different experience

cmon dude, its marketing gone mad. The sausage links looks like you are about get DP'd....Nar mate, move on. My ideal breakfast is Smoked Haddock, Sauted Kidneys, Scrambled eggs, and smoked bacon. I lived in the Castle Hotel for a year, longest staying resident to this day and that was my cooked breakfast most mornings thst i chose those years ago. Gary Rhodes has cooked my diner, and then onto Phil Vickery both TV chefs. I was stood in the Castle hotel holding a beer in my hand as the news came out that Phil Vickery had just been sacked by the owner Chapman...because he called in sick....but the problem was he was live on TV on BBC1 sitting next to his wife Fern Brittain....lolz...i asked Chapman that was standing next to me who is going to cook my dinner?, he growled and walked off...the year of our lord 2003...maybe 2002...too many beers. I love that memory.

Rest assured the Denny's I used in Page Arizona a while ago was just as bad as your experience. Plastic picture menus are always a bad sign.

Most chains cater for masses with little aptitude for taste or sense of quality.
I'd stick to local/family/independents if possible, chains are just a quick convenience stop gap in my opinion.

Lee, we're hitting the States soon, just interested what percentage you give as a tip in such as Denny's and then in lets say a decent steak restaurant or do you stick to the same percent roughly wherever . as the meal price creates the amount? cheers.

I've watched all your vids in the US and the food seems very hot and miss and also on the expensive side and the quality seems to have gone down hill since I visited the States nearly 20 years ago, back then it was cheap, plentiful and better quality.
