  • Build log on my site:
    www.ianlawrencemodels.com/wipd...
    Apologies for no soundtrack, I did this same vid with some nice Star Wars OST tracks but UMG didn't like it so canned the vid. This is how things are so them's the breaks.
    The first two pages of the WIP log on my site are just for the test issues that DeAgo did to gauge interest so they don't really apply to the proper build which starts on page 3.
    This is the first of two builds, the second one will have all the bells and whistles I think appropriate and is getting converted in to the '77 'A New Hope' version.
    Enjoy!

    WWWWOOOOOOWWWWW!!!! As a non-modeler who was just looking arond how to possibly repaint a Fantasy Flight Games Star Wars X-Wing: Millennium Falcon..this is jaw dropping.

      Thanks for the kind words, always appreciated. Well, you'll never know how it will go unless you give it a shot. I'd advise looking about places like RUclips for vids on painting tutorials and taking it from there. Practise is the key and the more you do, you find your own style and what works for you. Just remember one thing, you'll never build a perfect model, accept that and have a go anyway. I have never built anything close to a perfect model and I've been at this lark for over 40 years as hobbyist and professional so that should tell you something. Best of luck and take care, ILM

      Thanks! She worked out nicely enough in the end with only minor screaming and shouting. I hope you meant late with the subscription but have to say I started late with my prescription too. +IanLawrenceModels Congratulations man!! This is the best Falcon model I've ever seen! Nothing can top yours, maybe only the life size set used in the movies can.
      Even though it can't compete with yours , I too have my own little Falcon model I painted myself.
      Check it out if you want!

      Hi Joel, Oh I expect if you look around you will find many that will equal or surpass mine in some way. There are those who have done WAY more to their DeAgo Falcon that what you see in the video of mine but your words are appreciated and I thank you. Looked at your 1/200th Falcon, it's a neat and crisply done piece. Looks as it should and considering how small a Falcon is in that scale, something to be justly proud of I think! All the best, ILM

    i'm in the middle of my build, I love all the add ons you can get, but in all honesty, not much of it will be seen. so i will probably go mostly stock

    • @IanLawrenceModels
      @IanLawrenceModels  7 лет назад

      No prob with going stock build Chris as I hope the vid shows in some small way. Way I see it is as I have always seen it, your ship to build your way. The second one I'm doing will have as many appropriate bells and whistles as can be reasonably laid on but that's for the eventual owner to decide so we'll see how it goes. Above all, have fun with your build which is how it should be. All the best, ILM

    • @IanLawrenceModels
      @IanLawrenceModels  4 года назад

      Thanks Steve. Well as it states, the purpose of this build was to show what could be done with the issue only parts and almost no additional parts, modding or related faffing about. Granted I changed the glazing in the cockpit and gunner positions but the supplied stuff was truly awful, I mean seriously bad. And yes she got painted but that became pretty much the standard thign for near everyone i know that built one. All the best, Ian

      @@IanLawrenceModels where is your glazing vid? My initial thought was to use microscope slide glass as a replacement

    • @IanLawrenceModels
      @IanLawrenceModels  4 года назад

      @@SteveTK420 There is no vid of the glazing as such, it's all in the still pictures in the WIP log on my site. Link to said log is in the description at the top. Page 20 is where that and other stuff happens.

    Great job. How did you apply the streak marks? Did you use a brush?

    • @IanLawrenceModels
      @IanLawrenceModels  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks David. I used various brushes to apply the pastel chalk powder. The best one was a small flat brush with fairly stiff bristles, laid flat side down at the start and then turned on it's edge for the length of the streak to taper it. Takes a bit of practise but the results speak for themselves and I'm not a fan of the airbrush streaking used on the studio 32" Falcon. All the best, ILM

  • @PhilipReeder

    That ramp control part at the back of the ramp is a MAJOR turn off. Very surprised they did that like they did. Other than that, beautiful model. Have you or anyone else considered landing gear doors that would be permanently attached to the gear elements? Seems totally required for a gear down configuration. Would love to do the Falcon for myself, but a year to two year build,.... er, yikes. Good job!

    • @IanLawrenceModels
      @IanLawrenceModels  7 лет назад +1

      There are at least a couple of gear door mods on Shapeways. Didn't do one for this build as I wanted to keep it to just the supplied parts, hence the out of the box thing. I'll be doing them for the second build for certain but the ramp will not be motorised, the eventual owner for that one said it's not required so who am I to argue. Take care, ILM

    Looks a lot different from the scree used Falcon. Look at the docking bay in my photos compared to the one at 2:52
    facebook.com/Ryno93/media_set?set=a.4167767785837.169411.1033467418&type=3

    • @IanLawrenceModels
      @IanLawrenceModels  7 лет назад

      Indeed it is different but I never intended it to be accurate. It's only to show how the Falcon looks just using the parts supplied by DeAgo. I am fully aware of how this model differs from the VFX miniature, not least that it's missing several dozen small parts that DeAgostini missed off their one. I can't access your photos because I'm not on Facebook, just have no use for it. When you refer to the docking bay, which one are you talking about? The only two I know of that are referred to as such in the movies are Mos Eisley and the Death Star from A New Hope. I only ask to make sure I know which one you are referring to.All the best,ILM

    Issue 1 was just dropped here in Singapore 2 weeks ago priced at $4.90
    The remaining 99 issues will cost $19.90... If I do my math correctly, that works out at an overall price of $1,970.10... There are cheaper and bigger models than this one. It's not worth it..!

    • @IanLawrenceModels
      @IanLawrenceModels  7 лет назад +1

      In certain ways, I can agree with you. It's no small toenail clippings money wise but I must mention that for a very near accurate to the studio model 32" long Millennium Falcon there are precious few other options and currently, none cheaper or better. More so if one considers the work required to go from scratch. It all comes down to what a person wants and if they are that much of a fan/modeler to want one, it is from a financial and work perspective the only game in town for a studio scale Falcon. It's not perfect but very few things are. I only got mine as I like the design, love a challenge, would look reasonably ok once I was finished AND was slated to be sold anyway, which it was since I'm a builder rather than a fan and collector so all good. All the best, ILM

      I understand that it's a really fine piece and trust me I do want to have this set, but I think there are alternatives such as Lego or Lepin brick sets plus the Bandai model kits, which I do collect, are out there also.. Thank you for taking the time for giving me your feedback. I'm intrigued to see the finished set, so I'll subscribe to your channel to watch the cool videos...! Thanks again...!

    You have to paint this to your liking??? What a rip off for the price...it should be done already from the factory.

    • @IanLawrenceModels
      @IanLawrenceModels  6 лет назад

      To be specific, painting yourself is an option but only that. I've seen some built just as is with the factory shading wash on the panels but I wanted a bit more so painted this one. It's a matter of choice. Then again, the only other option in this size is the Master Replicas 32" Falcon and that beastie is a fully finished and painted model. But they are out of production you will have to part with 3 to 10 thousand for one of those.

    • @moon_Varcan
      @moon_Varcan 6 лет назад

      Dafuq ? Its model. Not a ready to play toy. You build it and decide if you want to create a 10 times better and out of the movie replica or just out of the box lvl.
