FLIR makes some EXCELLENT higher end cameras. In my days as a contractor I would only ever buy FLIR. Best on the market for doing any serious analysis. But the bottom end of the market has better options for casual users and home owners. Even the Chinese knock off brands do just fine if you're mostly interested in looking at thermal patterns.
If you want to have sound in video recordings the P2Pro app, you need to manually give the microphone permission to the app through the Android settings. And I'm also currently working on reverse engineering the USB communication protocol besides the video stream and providing a PC implementation of a "P2Pro Viewer", but that will still take some time.
Thanks Vince 👍. I sent you an email last week, not sure if you got it or if you've just been busy. I've been working on my car again last couple of days. Got the engine stripped down to get to the oil cooler. 2 days it took. Waiting of parts now but my hands are a lot worse for wear with cuts, and chunks off my knuckles etc lol.
It's been 9 months and you've probably found it, but you can do image flips and rotations right in the P2 Pro software. There are a lot of built in features if you dig around. An excellent little camera for the price
Great review video , that's a nice tool to have for finding hot spots on circuit boards for sure..... I got that portable soldering iron in and uploaded a vid on it.... That lil iron really can do what it says , it impressed me ..... Take care Mon Ami ..
I was planning on buying this thermal camera but the deal breaker is the app asking for location when saving images. To bad on a otherwise seemingly good product. If they want to know where I live they can kindly ask and I might sell them the information for a few bucks, but Im not giving it for free after paying 250 bucks for their camera.
I'm not sure if the blend would work especially for close up objects such as circuit boards as the distance between the cameras would probably be an issue. They seem to be decent cameras, I've used it now and again but a lot of the faults I come across I haven't really had to use it.
I bought it few months back and (minor) issues for me are: - text color cannot be changed, it's always red. Since I like to use red hot scale, the digits are often burried in a sea of red color. Would be nice to have a setting for the text color. - missing the real overlay, that thing it does when showing you extra picture from the phone cam is not that useful - when I move it around, the camera freezes for a second every now and then as if it was trying to focus. Very annoying.
I'm not sure on changing the text colour as it's something I've not tried. The freezing for a second now and again is the camera re-calibrating. Most thermal cameras I've used (including the FLIR) do this. I think it's just the way they work. Here is an someone else saying similar on a SEEK thermal camera: www.eevblog.com/forum/thermal-imaging/seek-compact-clicking-and-freezing/
Thanks, I'll have another look. I've used it more lately on my latest video and the one upcoming. The audio would be handy for aligning the clips with the main camera I use in the editing software 👍
FLIR being hobbled by ITAR has really pretty much rendered them obsolete now. The US government has basically handed the market for thermal camers to China.
@@BuyitFixit cool! Do you know the difference between the T2 and P2 version of that camera? And can it also used for android somehow if i get the ios version?
Aww sheepies, I thought you may live on a farm as I thought I could hear animals in the background on a couple of your videos. Farmer and a fixer of electronics many talants.
Will check that video out next then. I do not think I could be a farmer as lambs get turned into food even though I do like a shephards pie. I would get attached to them and just end up with a huge debt and big flock.@@BuyitFixit
We've only got about 50 head of sheep. I've only been a farmer for a few years. The boy lambs go to market, but that doesn't even cover the cost of feed, wormer, injections, lamb milk, bottles and shearing. Which is one of the reasons why we started going into rare breeds, but also we need something to keep the grass down.
My Uncle had a few sheep he kept them also too keep his grass down, he had about 7 acres. He also had a couple of goats and quite a few chickens too. He has moved now though as it was getting a bit much now that he is older. Did you watch Clarksons Farm, he struggled to make any money with his sheep. I bet another talant of yours is stone wall building? @@BuyitFixit
"I'm not being sponsored" and "I've got the camera for free".. is a bit of a misnomer.. you are clearly sponseret since you got paid for your trouble... While it appears genuine there is no way of trusting you
Being sponsored would mean they were paying me to give a good review of it. They sent me a camera to review. I was then totally free to give a good or bad totally unbiased review. If it was crap I'd tell you it was crap, if it was good I would say it was good. It's not like they are going to ask for it back. I don't make any commission on any sales on the link in the video. It's pretty much the same as you are totally free to trust me or not. Personally I like the camera, it's a lot better for me than the FLIR one. If you buy one or don't it honestly makes no difference to me. I try to be as honest as I can.

Thanks perdedor👍
That's the next thing i really need is a thermal camera . Always great to see your vids
Thanks js. This is the first review video I've ever done so hopefully it was ok. 👍
Wow a very impressive thermal camera, normally thermal camera images look very grainy in my opinion, but I'm looking forward to seeing you use it.
Thanks Morten. Yes I'm really impressed with it, and I'm sure it will feature in future videos 👍

Sounds cool LeoDJ. I've not looked at the apk, might be worth dropping it into a decompiler if you haven't already...
wan't it already done because isn't it just like an uvc webcam?
Good review Mick 👍

@@BuyitFixit Yeah, sorry for the slow reply, been mega busy and my email replying has suffered!
@@Mymatevince No worries Vince. I've just replied to your email 😂😂😂😂
Nice review Mick, I'm glad your sheep are keeping nice and warm! 😀
Thanks Mike 👍
You can also switch sound recording on as well.

I saw you using this on the Phillips sound bar .Nice little product.
Yes, I that one instead of the FLIR. It's much more responsive and I can record the footage.
Looks a nice bit of kit, very nice review thanks
Thank you too! 👍
@@BuyitFixit you’re welcome ☺️

I have the same P2Pro Camera. Feature i would like in the SW is digital zoom for the phone's visible light camera and the ability to blend the images.

Audio does Record, check permissions, Location probably is needed to geotag photo's, i din't check it,

Use screen record instead of recording in the app. That way it will record audio also.
Thanks for the tip 👍

Yes, totally agree! Thanks for commenting 👍🙂
👍👍
Yes, FLIR were not very helpful 🤷♂️
Can you connect the camera to a drone?
It seems to work like a normal USB camera on a PC so if the drone supports that then I don't see why not.
@@BuyitFixit cool! Do you know the difference between the T2 and P2 version of that camera? And can it also used for android somehow if i get the ios version?
Sorry I dont, but as far as I know the android and iOS versions won't be interchangeable due to the connector and apple's DRM chip.
Tip 3: you can acquire Windows software to run the camera on your computer.
Thanks Anthony, yes I got an email from a guy who was developing windows software for it shortly after making the video 👍
