  • In this video I will be making a Railway Sleeper Bench out of a reclaimed sleeper that I recently picked up for free. I thought this was an oak sleeper but it turned out to be a bright red mystery wood. Someone in the comments please let me know what wood this is!

I never would have seen the potential of that sleeper. What a beautiful piece of wood was hiding under the filth!

Thanks, I’d have been more than happy with a nice bit of oak but this turned out a bit more unique.

The reclaim looks like Cedar wood to me, beautiful piece

Thank you. I thought possibly cedar but it seems a deeper red than any cedar I’ve seen before. Most of the cedar I’ve used has either been more orange or a lighter pinky red. It’s a very hard wood too, which is why I initially presumed it was oak. It may be an Asian hardwood but to be honest my knowledge of those woods is very little!

    That looks like red cedar

It looks a bit like cedar but it’s really dense and hard. I still have no idea what it is but I’m leaning towards an Asian hardwood but I have no firm idea!
