Most of Mindanao, all of Manila and neighboring towns (40% of Luzon as the mountain region and pacific side as they were still animist when Spaniards arrived) and half of Visayas where the remaining were Hindu who converted to Christianity after Spain promised to defend them from the raiders. Overall possible the whole of today’s Philippines was 60 percent Muslim.

The Philippines is home to a minority Muslim population, primarily concentrated in the southern part of the country, particularly in the regions of Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan. The Muslim population in the Philippines is diverse, consisting mainly of the Moro ethnic groups, such as the Tausug, Maguindanao, Maranao, and others.
Islam was introduced to the Philippines as early as the 14th century, primarily through trade with Muslim merchants from the Malay Archipelago and the Middle East. Over time, Islamic sultanates were established in various parts of the Philippines, particularly in Mindanao, which became centers of Islamic culture and governance.
Historically, there have been tensions and conflicts between the Muslim communities and the central government, largely due to issues of autonomy, land rights, and political representation. These conflicts have sometimes escalated into violence, leading to significant humanitarian crises in certain areas.
Efforts to address these issues have been ongoing, including peace talks between the Philippine government and various Muslim rebel groups, such as the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). The goal of these peace negotiations has been to establish a more inclusive and autonomous governance structure for Muslim-majority areas in the southern Philippines.
In recent years, there have been significant developments in the peace process, including the passage of the Bangsamoro Organic Law in 2018, which aims to create a new autonomous region called the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). This law seeks to address the longstanding grievances of the Muslim communities and promote peace and development in the region.
Despite these challenges, Muslim Filipinos continue to play important roles in various aspects of Philippine society, including politics, business, education, and culture. They contribute to the rich tapestry of diversity that characterizes the Philippines as a nation.

The history of Muslims in the Philippines dates back to the 14th century when Islam was first introduced to the archipelago by Arab and Malay traders. The spread of Islam in the Philippines was primarily through trade and missionary activities, as Muslim merchants and scholars established communities along the coastal areas of Mindanao, Sulu, and other parts of the southern Philippines.
One of the earliest Islamic sultanates in the Philippines was the Sultanate of Sulu, founded in the 15th century, which exerted influence over parts of present-day Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago. Other notable sultanates included the Sultanate of Maguindanao and the Sultanate of Lanao, both located in Mindanao.
These sultanates served as centers of Islamic governance, culture, and scholarship in the region. They established trade networks with neighboring countries and played a significant role in shaping the political and social landscape of the southern Philippines.
Spanish colonization in the 16th century brought significant changes to the Philippines, including the introduction of Christianity and the establishment of Spanish colonial rule. The Spaniards encountered resistance from Muslim communities in the south who fiercely defended their territories and way of life.
The Spanish-Moro Wars, which lasted for centuries, were a series of conflicts between the Spanish colonial forces and Muslim communities in Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago. These wars were characterized by both military campaigns and diplomatic negotiations, as the Spanish sought to subjugate the Muslim inhabitants and convert them to Christianity.
Despite Spanish efforts to conquer Muslim territories, they were never fully successful in subduing the Moro resistance. Muslim communities in the southern Philippines maintained their autonomy and continued to practice Islam even under Spanish rule.
The American occupation of the Philippines in the late 19th and early 20th centuries brought a new set of challenges for Muslim Filipinos. While the Americans implemented policies of religious tolerance, they also sought to integrate the Muslim-majority areas into the broader Philippine nation-state, which led to tensions and conflicts over land rights, governance, and cultural identity.
In the decades following Philippine independence in 1946, Muslim Filipinos continued to struggle for autonomy and recognition of their cultural and religious rights. This struggle culminated in the establishment of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in 1989, which aimed to provide self-governance to Muslim-majority areas in Mindanao.
In recent years, efforts to address the grievances of Muslim communities in the Philippines have led to peace negotiations between the government and various Muslim rebel groups, resulting in the passage of the Bangsamoro Organic Law in 2018 and the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). These developments represent significant steps towards achieving lasting peace and prosperity in the southern Philippines.

The reality is that the majority of Southeast Asians are Muslims, contrary to the portrayal by the Western world as a Buddhist region. Islam has a long history in this region, especially in the maritime areas of modern-day Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and Southern Thailand. There were many Muslim empires in this region, and despite prolonged conflicts with European powers, we have remained predominantly Muslim. Today, we are very devout in our practice of Islam compared to Muslims in South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East. We take pride in our manners and behavior, being well-mannered and respectful, unlike Muslims in other regions who may exhibit barbaric behavior and extremist mentalities. In a way, we are much more superior muslims than the other muslims from the rest of the world

Thank you for visiting the Philippines. The Muslims in the Philippines are very enterprising, kind and very hard working. Even in the big cities, they are mostly into business because of their enterprising nature. Before the Spaniards colonized us, the Philippines was vastly Islam but the Spaniards forced the people to switch to Catholic religion otherwise, they are persecuted. After over 333 years, it became predominantly Catholic unlike Indonesia who were fortunate to maintain their religion because the English did not convert them.

Muslims need education, education, education, economic upward, economic upward, economic upward, more than dua and praying...Islam was very progressive, high in every aspect of life when Muslims valued education, learning, knowledge. Look at .last 600-700 years.Muslims are always losing all over the world...
