I downloaded this key fob pattern over a year ago but have not tried it but after watching your video I am going to make these for Christmas gifts. For the people asking about the monogram-you can use the built in ones on the machine, just need to rotate it. I can't wait to get started on these tomorrow! So glad I happened upon your video. What type of scissors did you use to trim out the monogram piece? That was the only portion that I had trouble with. Thank you for the great information!!
RuthAnn Petrov I use an embroidery scissors. they have a small, sharp point at the end that allows you to make very precise cuts.

Great tutorial - Do you use top thread as the bobbin thread or just use the usual white bobbin fill?
I use the usual bobbin thread.

Embroidery designs have to be digitized using specialized software. There is no such thing as a template.
I look for the one your doing and couldn't fine.

What do set your tension at? I have embroidered a few projects and haven't had to change the factory setting for the tension. I'm going to be going to Joannes in the next day or so to get some vinyl. Love your videos!
I have never changed the tension on that machine.
I was not sure if I could embroider vinyl on my machine, but I see you have the Brother SE400 and that is what I have. I love it. Thinking about upgrading but have to get better at this one. Great video by the way.

Yes, you can make a smaller design on a larger hoop. When I do that, I position it on the side of the hoop so I can fit a second item on the other side.

I bought a Brothers 2 in 1 Sewing & Embroidery machine 2 years ago & have done alot of sewing but not one project ITH. Ugh, I'm so nervous about using that function. I don't have a computer so I can only use internal patterns or a flash drive if someone sells patterns that way. I have every kind of stabilizer made. LOL..I even have the embroidery bent scissors but I have anxiety whenever I prepare for it. Any suggestions for a true beginner besides downing a bottle of wine first? Thx for a very clear video & I believe I have leather needles too. What kind of tension is best? I have the Brothread which is for embroidery use by Brothers. (Polyester) ❤🤞💌
I don't know of a way to do this without a computer. Brothread is not made for Brother machines; the name is just similar. I have videos on my channel that will help you get started.
I am new too! When you say use vinyl material is that material or rolls of vinyl for a circuit?
It's marine-grade vinyl.

I have a question on just "HOW" did you get the trim around the initial done? Especially while still in the hoop! I waited like in your video...and it's near impossible to get mine to look like yours. HELP please!!! Hints are appreciated. Also would be nice if you could show that part...or at least a part of how to trim it to perfection like in your video here. Thanks so much!
I use a double curved scissors so I can get the blade into the hoop area. I just trim what I need to and clean it up after I'm done stitching. I have a new video coming out this Sunday with another applique key chain which will hopefully be helpful to you.

Helen Bear you'd have to buy a monogram font and merge it onto the key chain design using embroidery editing software.
I hope this is my last question! I am so new and scared! You did a placement stitch is this part of the design you have for the Quatrefoil, is this part of the download design from Dejahvue?
Yes, this one has a placement stitch. A couple of her designs don't have them, but this one does. Don't be scared... the worst case is you are out less an a dollar's worth of supplies and a little bit of your time.

cutflower link to the vinyl is in the description. I have not used metal snaps on these keychains but if you can find some that will go through two layers of vinyl you certainly could try.

I have a question. You mentioned that if you put two vinyl layers, you must use the longer snap. What other material would you put in the back otherwise? I'm curious because I have a ton of snaps! :) Very instructive!
Bushkill Realty in my opinion, anything other than the same vinyl you use on the front looks tacky. Some people put felt on the back, but that's going to pill and wear out.

Did you peel off the coating from the glitter vinyl before laying it in the hoop?
Dorothy McCurdy this type of vinyl does not have a coating on it.
Dorothy MCurdy this type of vinyl is called Marine Vinyl, There is other types than are made for machine embroidery.The vinyl you are thinking of is different than the vinyl used to make signs and the type you use to iron on shirts. I hope this helps you.

No. I buy Kam snaps online which is easier and more convenient than driving to a store. They are also cheaper and have better color variety.
I have some, so i'm gonna give them a try, but i may end up with Kam too

That is a completely different type of vinyl that is unsuitable for embroidery.

A short time ago I ordered a couple of designs which I Never did receive the designa . I also had a problem similar to this with another company and after a great deal of Investigation discovered that the email address had been wrongly written. The email address had an extra letter at the beginning. namely aashstamma instead of ashstamma . This seem to clear everything up and I was finally able to get the designs I had paid for . Please check your records and is this is why I never received the designs please correect to the email and send them To me, Thank you.May Light

I did fob tabs using an older 3300 White embroidery machine as I didn't want to use my industrial one, Buggalena recommended using marine vinyl so I layered up front and back which cost me $130 to fix the timing on my machine. Buggalena replied it was not their fault I used a low end machine, the sewing repairman who has been in business over 30 years said it was definitely the material along with the design that totally ruined the machine. You are using different vinyl here, what type and can you buy it at a Joanne Fabrics? Is this apparel vinyl? I really would like to sell the products I bought to recoup the repair of my machine. Your FOB tabs look nicer than the ones I bought from Buggalena. Thank you for your reply.
I used marine vinyl, which is probably the same thing Buggalena uses on their items. It's pretty standard. You can get it at Joann Fabrics, and online from Mikri World Supplies and My Punkbroidery. That vinyl is just fine to use on a machine. I can't speak to the design itself. I will say most repair people have no idea what ITH embroidery even is.
Nikki, I brought it in with the design intact. The vinyl was about 1/16th thick, contractor grade marine vinyl. It was probably way too much for the machine. I'll try the places that you mentioned and hopefully their vinyl will work better.

Kam snaps come in like a million different colors
I don't recall offhand, but I was probably referring to the long prong variety, of which there weren't many colors at the time.
