[POV] FAST Blood Transport on BUSY Highway

  • Welcome. Today we join this first responder driving on the A2 highway in Germany. We are located just north-west of Dortmund. Our driver already knows there are roadworks up ahead. All lanes are closed and traffic is rerouted via the secundary lanes next to the main highway lanes. A big traffic jam is very likely. Let's see what it takes to get past there. A small part of this clip has no audio because the driver has contact with the control room and talks about sensitive information with regard to the emergency call.

    Actually, creating the rescue lane is mandatory, once highway traffic has come to a crawl, not only when emergency vehicles are approaching.
    Once completely stopped, there is no chance to make way for emergency vehicles, so it has to be done before.

      And that's the matter why every driver should keep distance to the vehicle in front of him to have enough space to maneuver.

      Yeah, and sooo many people are doing it wrong. I always try to be in the left lane, or the right one -- because then I don't need the "cooperation" of the guy on my right...

    1:10 actually, creating a rescue lane is mandatory not only when rescue vehicles approach, but already when traffic starts slowing down - so when the traffic is at a standstill, the rescue lane is ideally already there.
    At 3:26, you can see a reminder posted at the bridge. "Stau? Rettungsgasse!" "Traffic jam? Resuce lane!"

      Just was 30 min in a jam (accident) and while people didn't form a full lane, everyone except the car in front, was already moved outwards. The reason for not moving all the way out, mostly is, that there are lots of small stones. They get stuck, and then destroy windshields. Needs a lot more attention, as you have to keep enough distance (so you can move out all the way if there is a big rescue vehicle) and pay attention to any rescue approaching from behind. But just ahead of the jam, they already had the sign set, to tell you how far the jam is and how long it is gonna take. Really wished they would swep it a little more often near the median barrier. Then you could just slowly drive like 10cm from the barrier.

    Living in Germany, I have to say that I rarely see a rescue lane as good as this one. Most of the time it doesn't work because of many drivers who don't pay attention / don't care...

    As we can see, this driver educated just right in driving safely and efficiently, even with lights and sirens.
    This is more important, than rushing through traffic, not giving the rest of the traffic a chance to move over, and give space to get to the scene as quickly as possible.
    Well done to all drivers, including the emergency responder 😁👍

      I agree, except with one statement. "Giving drivers a chance to move over..." shouldn't be concern. The law in Germany says that you have to move over as soon as traffic is coming to a crawl, not only when an emergency vehicle approaches.
      So, if everyone was a considerate driver the lane would already be wide open by the time the ambulance arrives.

    I watched the China clip aslo. Nobody gives a damn. And this one, even like 150 meters ahead people are aware of the situation and get out of the way!

    The trucks in the middle lane are doing 2 things wrong. First there was a no overtake sign for trucks. Second if u come into a trafic jam it is not allowed for trucks to be a different lane than the right one. It is so annoying to see that the rules are just ignored...

      I have read on several websites, that trucks are allowed to overtake when there are at least three lanes, even in a traffic jam. I would like to believe you, but can you provide a source for this rule?
      But even if they are allowed to use the middle lane, they should drive on the very right if the lane to make more room on the left. You can see that very clearly in the video, that where the trucks do drive as far as possible on the right, there is no problem for the ambulance to pass on the left.

      you have only no overtake signs in Germany...and on most 3 lane Autobahn in Germany you are allowed to pass with a 40t semi!
      its allowed to have 2 trucks to each other, the 3rd lane would be illegal...i wonder if you ever drove on the Autobahn??

      @@Arltratlo ganz großer Schwachsinn denn du da redest. In Vorbereitung einer Rettungsgasse haben sich LKW rechts einzuordnen, da es sich nichtmehr um ein Überholmanöver handelt. Durch das Rechtsfahrgebot darf ein Fahrzeug dieser größe nicht länger als zum Überholvorgang benötigt (laut Urteil 20sec) auf der mittleren Spur sein. Außerdem ist dort ein Überholverbot für Lkw im Video sichtbar. Also erstmal Verkehrsregeln bevor man Schwachsinn erzählt

    Thankfully the drivers in lane 3 did what they were supposed to. Because most of the "professional" drivers in lane 2 sure didn't.
    The police should fine them all based in the video.

    3:28 the sign on the bridge acually tells drivers how to create a rescuelane in case of a traffic jam
    On busy autobahnsections these rescuelanes are vital and save lifes and i have to say in this video it works almost perfect.
    The Semitrucks in the middle lane are not ideal as the rescuelane is a tight fit for a fireengine, but sometimes there is no choice so they have to go there

    You can see how important total is to still have a hard shoulder, which often in uK is now used as running lane with " mismanaged smart traffic control" , confused by undereducated public ..

      That's actually a misconception and the narration in this video is incorrect. You don't have to create the lane when an emergency vehicle is approaching. You have to already create it when there is a traffic jam. This way, the lane is already there, when an emergency vehicle approaches.

      @@Lucas-zg1vz I have to say, a lot of the time in this clip, the traffic is moving quickly enough that I wouldn't be creating the rescue lane either. It looks like it's moving at 20-30 km/h, my personal rule of thumb is to create the rescue lane when dropping below 10 km/h (or when it looks like the traffic is stopping entirely from a higher speed).
      Last time an emergency vehicle passed me, I was close enough to the divider that my park sensors told me to stop immediately... that was yesterday. You just have to pay attention when going slow, you can spot the blue lights well before you hear them. If you're still moving at a good clip, you move over. If you can't move any more, you f'd up and should have moved over a long time ago. ;-)

    By German law trucks must be in the far right lane in cases like this. This is a prime example why. Fire trucks wouldn't get through.

      In Germany, I've noticed the opposite trend in recent years. People are getting better at creating the rescue lane. Not perfect yet, but I've seen a few perfect ones already (at least as far as I could see - and on one of the occasions, the police barreled past me doing at least 80...

      The white lines on the road are 6m long and 12m apart. By counting how many of them are passed in a given time, you can calculate the speed.

      Sure? Do you have to create this lane when an emergency vehicle approaches or already when there is a traffic jam? In Germany, this lane must be formed in any traffic jam, regardless of whether an emergency vehicle is actually there.
